Linking An Access Database File To HTML Page On IIS6.0
My client has various Access databases that they want to be able to access (using MS Access, not through ASP pages). I thought I'd be able to create the link from an HTML page but when I do that and click the link, the file is downloaded to the local temp folder. I want the database to open directly from the web server, and then changes must be saved.

I was just wondering if there is anyway to link tables from another Access database using ASP. Just like the function in Access where we can go File->Get External Data->Link Tables.
I have implemented some e-modules and they all have individual database as a backend. But, my boss would like to allow all these e-modules to share data. Therefore I am thinking of linking all the tables in those databases through a 'gateway' database (gateway.mdb). This 'gateway' database would have link tables from all other databases.

I'm working on getting a list of links to other forms on my database to show up in an order determined by an additional field in a database. This line right here works for this (note the bold part is what I'm editing):
Set rs = cnnSimple.Execute("SELECT * FROM [resource domain] where RESID= """ & rstSimple.Fields("RESID").value & """ ORDER BY [Links].Precedence ASC;")
But I actually don't want to sort by Precedence (that's being used for sorting another field). Instead I want to sort by another colum in the same form called BelongOrder. I try this simply by doing:
Set rs = cnnSimple.Execute("SELECT * FROM [resource domain] where RESID= """ & rstSimple.Fields("RESID").value & """ ORDER BY [Links].BelongOrder ASC;")
But I get the following error:
Microsoft JET Database Engineerror '80040e10' ....

what I want to make actually is to take the results of a search engine that I use, which are in form of HTML or ASP and transport that results in a DataBase. For example, I wont to place as registrations in the DataBase the equivalents URLs and their descriptions from the results of search. I use MS Access, code asp, HTML , Javascript .
QUESTION! How can I insert the content from an HTML or ASP page into a dataBase? How can I determine from what point to what point a string it will be entered in the first cell of table and afterwards in the next and next ....

i have many *.html* pages with the same header. i wanted to make one *header* file and put a link to that file in all html pages. So if i ever need to make changes in the header, i will need to edit only 1 file rather than all pages.
for *.asp* pages this code works fine:-
<!-- #include file="filename.inc" -->
but the same **include** does not work for *.html* pages. i guess there is some other way to put a link!

OK - I have a shopping basket with data in a database. Once the person
has successfully completed their order I want to be able to send them
an email with the products ordered roughly in the following format:
Product Price Quantity
prod1 £6.99 1
prod2 £5.99 2
Postage £0.50
Total whatever..I'm
lazy
Formatting would be a little different (just spacing out the prod
table a little more.
Any ideas or links to scripts that do this?. I've been looking for a
while now but have had no luck in finding a solution. I just want to
send a text email (and not html).
The other thing is that on the last page but one, this shopping basket
is displayed. Is there anyway I could capture the html data from that
page, store it in a session variable and then generate the email after
the order has been completed (so sort of like sending a mirror of that
page)? In that case having a HTML formatted email would be ok.

Our company has a website in place that allows users to get information. I've been asked to call a custom made dll that returns a registration number to the user. I don't know much about dlls or coding concepts for that matter (I've built pretty basic client/server asp websites only), but I would like to be able to at least ask the right questions so that I can understand just what I need to look into to do this.
Does it depend what "kind" of dll it is and what language it's written in? Do I then just need to know the arguments it takes? How do you register a dll?

I developed an ASP page which has 2 input fields- First Name and Last Name.I used Access 2002 as database. Once I click the Submit button,
it has to perform 3 tasks-----
1) It has to update the First Name and Last Name in the MS-Access database in their corresponding fields.
2) It has to go to the Home Page(which I already did)
3) It has to update the date/time in the "Time" field in the MS-Access database.
The following is the code I wrote to connect to the database and update the fields in the Access table---
<%
set MyConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
set rs = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.RecordSet")
MyConn.Open "driver={Microsoft Access Driver
(*.mdb)};;DBQ=c:/documents and
settings/adcguest/desktop/webpage_html
ewsecurity.mdb;"
rs.Open sqlqry,MyConn,2,2
rs.AddNew
rs("firstname") = first name
rs("lastname") = last name
rs.update
rs.close
myconn.close
%>
Can somebody please help me in figuringout if I am missing something.

I wrote a script to compact my access databases from my admin section. Everything is working except I get this error:
Provider error '80040e4d'
Authentication failed.
Is their some reason the JRO.JetEngine needs authentication? I don't have direct access to this server and was wondering how to get around this problem or how to fix it. It fails when this link is run:
objJetEngine.CompactDatabase strCon, "Provider = Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source = " & DBTempPath
None of the databases have a username or password. Would I have to have the host company setup an account for this action to take place? And why could I do everything except compact the database? Is their a vulnerability issue when accessing this function?

We have a master page set up and it is tied to its css file through the standard method in the <head> tag. What I would like to do though is from another page inheriting the master page to add another link to a css file.
That way i can have the sites global file used to make the general apperance consistent, then make the internal content more flexible without destroying the current css file.
Is this a possible task? When i went into the main master page and tried to add a <asp:contentplaceholder id="additionCSS" runat="server" /> tag to the head. When this is done visual studio alerts me saying it doesn't recognize the tag 'asp'. Is there a way around this? We are only just rewriting the site to use master pages now so I'm still figuring it out.

I have an ASP page that lists a recordeset that can have dozens of records, at the end of each line is a details link that links to a page giving more detailed information about the record where a user can add and update information to that record.
At the top of the update record page I have a Back to Record List page. The problem is that when a user hits the Back to Record List page they are taken back to the Top of the list, I'd like to create a link that will take the user back to the record they just updated. I am carrying the data record number through the querystring.

I am methodically working my way through the Sitepoint 'Build your own ASP.NET website' and have been successful in every lesson up to page 279. However I've come stuck when trying to add information to an Access Database. When I try to do so I get the message:
Operation must use an updateable query.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Operation must use an updateable query.
I have tried the solution described in the book but still get the message. I am using IIS and XP Professional. The database works for queries so how do I get it to accept information entries?

Currently, I do the following in my ASP pages when making use of an MS
Access database:
Dim adoCon, rsSet, strSQL
Set AdoCon = server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
Set RsSet = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.RecordSet")
adoCon.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" &
Server.MapPath("MyDB.mdb")
strSQL="SELECT * FROM MyTable;"
rsSet.Open strSQL, adoCon
...do some stuff...
rsSet.Close
adoCon.Close
Set rsSet=Nothing
Set adoCon=Nothing
I have a couple queries stored in the database that I use when in MS Access.
Can I call these queries instead of using a string to specify the SQL
command?
The above seems kind of verbose for making use of a database. Can it be
simplified at all?

Unless you declared those session variables earlier, they have no data in them. Assuming this information is coming from a form, try using request.form("fieldname") instead of the session variables.
If this doesn't address your problem, give more detail about what "isn't working"
