Dynamic Content - Main Memory Access

Dynamic Content - Is there a way to keep information in some main memory pool in IIS so that each thread of execution (each visit to the site) would have access to it. I do not want to hit the db every time a visitor hits a new page on my site?

The Include file '../main.asp' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent

I think it is refering to the fact that I have a file called
communication.asp, and in that file there is a line:

<!-- #include file=../main.asp -->
This LINE should not contain '..' to indicate the parent directory

On the other hand, reading the message as it is written, we see that it

Speed

If I want to get the number of rows returned from the database along with the contents, I would assume that GetRows() would be the best way, and then doing a UBound(myArray,2) + 1 would be the best way to give me the number of records.
If I do NOT need the actual database info, but I just need the number of rows, should I use GetRows or COUNT(ID) in my SQL or what?

Update Record In A Popup And Then Refresh Main Window

I have a main window which shows all records from a table. When a user clicks on "Edit" for a record, a popup showing information of the selected record is displayed.

The user then changes the information on the popup and clicks "OK" button which calls an ASP page to update that record in the table. Everything works with no problem up to this stage.

My problem start after the update process. I need to know how to close the popup and then refresh the main window showing the updated information....

Speed Rates

my asp pages use mysql db...i got 40 tables.
mostly the site system uses 7 tables only...
in the past i used access mdb database but after this 5 tables fulfilled with something like 10000 records it was so slow i could read a book before it moved...
then i moved to sql...

now the question is for who had/have asp pages connected to mysql with more than 50,000 records...
how is the speed? can you see the speed diffrence with the growing of numbers of records?
if i got slow speed when i ask my asp pages to show me some records, is that because i got more than normal number of records inside one table?
80,000 records inside one mysql table sounds to you normal?

ASP- Reliability Speed

I am about to implement an online auction system similar to ebay. I am debating between two products. One is PHP the other ASP (PHP Auction and Rainworx).

I typically like PHP better, because I've noticed ASP always seems to turn up an error (even on professional sites), but the ASP system has more of the features that I need.

Can anyone tell me the pros/cons of ASP vs. PHP? My largets concern is speed. Is ASP fast? and is it reliable? I've heard something about the code breaks down over time, etc.

How To Speed Up Code

I'm using get rows to build a table for a calendar. The specific view for this calendar is for an entire month. Each appointment slot is one half hour long. If I were to generate a page for the month of november I would have to check and see if an appointment is scheduled for each appointment slot throughout the entire month. this is 240 slots! At this point I've written it so it only checks for an appointment if a particular day has an appointment, even so, with only 20 or so appointments scheduled for the entire month, it's taking several seconds to return the results.

I was thinking it might be best to pay a javascript programmer to write a script that will parse through the whole mess to offload it onto the client. What would you recommend?

At What Point Is Global.asa Run?

I'm wondering something about global.asa. We have a stats package that has been written for us. It tracks sessions by tracking session IDs rather than IP addresses, because this is much more accurate (tracking by IP can only give you an average guess at numbers of sessions).

The problem we have is that static HTML pages do not create a session ID. It remains as "-" in the log. I'm wondering if we can use a global.asa file to force IIS to open a session? The thing is, this will still be useless if global.asa only runs when the ASP file is requested, rather than when the first site file is requested.

So, now you have the background, the question is quite simple:

Does global.asa run when you first hit a site (ie: when default.htm is called) or does it run when you first hit an ASP page (like search.asp)?

Obviously, in the latter case that can mean that it's perfectly feasible for someone to spend half an hour on a site and never actually fire the global.asa or trigger a session, which is a rather fundamental problem.

How Can U Connect To 1 Of Several Dbs Based On Selection User Makes When Accessing Main Page

We have a web site IIS 5 (on Win2000k) with Oracle 9i backend (Sun unix).

There is 1 user ID to oracle(APT_W3) that is used by all users (50).

We have a global.asa file that has one APP Start connection string using OLE
DB:
Application("dbConnString")="Provider=MSDAORA.1;Password='SDERSD';User
ID=APT_W3;Data Source=CCEWSDD1_new;Locale Identifier=1033;OLE DB services=-1"

The first page that a user sees asks that they select the area they want to
see (western, northern, etc) from a dropdown menu. Once they select it and
hit save they can go to other pages, session varibles indicating what area
they selected are then passed to pages. Currently all areas are in one
database.

What we want to do is have areas in separate dbs, a northern one, a western
one.etc. Each will have separate user ids (APT_W2N, APT_W3W,etc).

We want the users to have the web page presented to them where they select an
area. Based on the area they select, the appropriate conneciton string will
be used (the one in the global asa). Code:

Database Starting Point

I am just starting to think about adding a db to my Webs. I want to use a db
to change pages within various Webs and subwebs by scheduling these pages
ahead of time so the pages will already be loaded (visible) when a visitor
arrives. Sometimes I will need to replace one exisitng page with one or more
pages for the scheduled time period.

After the time period has passed, I want the Web or subweb changed back to
what is was before the original change took place automatically. None of the
Webs or subwebs will require any ecommerce or tranactional capability.

Floating-point Division

I have the following code in a script:

' Pecentage Interest on Loan
YearlyInterestPercent = 6.5

' Get Annual Interst Rate from Interest Percentage
YearlyInterestRate = YearlyInterestPercent / 100

' Divide Yearly Interest Rate by 12
' to Get Monthly Interst Rate
MonthlyInterestRate = YearlyInterestRate / 12

These values are supplied by the user using a form but I made them static for this example. For some reason, when dividing the Yearly Interst rate by twelve, MonthlyInterestRate equals 5.41666666666667E-03. The result should be 0.005416667. Does anyone know what I can do to correct this?

www.theirdomain.com & www.someotherdomain.com/links.html whereas the second domain may have a link to my site but it is not related to the entrants domain.
