Convert A Physical File Path To A URL For Hypertext Links

I have a Physical path that I need to convert on the FLY I thought using Replace would be a good idea, and it almost works

function MapURL(path)

dim url2
'Convert a physical file path to a URL for hypertext links.
url2 = (path)
MapURL = Replace(url2, "", "/")
MapURL = Replace (url2,"E:","http://myscs/docLibraryDocs")
MapURL = Replace (url2, "IntranetLibrary", "")

end function %>

- Is it possible to have multiple replace on the same variable ?
- am I doing it the right way ? or is it possible to concatenate those replace in one go ?

Is there a limit on how many Replace one can use for one variable ?

The problem I have is that it takes the first two Replace in consideration but not the third one. If I remove or comment the second one then the First and the third one works fine. For some reason, it doesn't like to have the three in the same time.

by the way, the link I try to change is as follow: Code:

Page 2 - Find Out Your Web Page's Path

Well, it was my experience that the generated stuff didn't work, but I didn't want to make a definitive statement and have someone more knowledgeable come through and tell me how wrong I was.

So now I'll agree: DON'T use Word to generage your code. It is a very bad idea, and for what (it looks like) you're trying to do, it is so easy that writing it in notepad would only take a few minutes, and be much nicer.

Finding Absolute File Path On Server?

I am trying to create a log of certain events on the website by writing them
to a text file. The logging code is in an "included" file that is inserted
into the pages that need to be monitored. Currently, the target text file is
just specified in the FSO MapPath as "thelog.txt", so it writes the log to a
text file within the same folder as the web page.

The problem is that I don't want to grant browsers Write access to my pages
folder, so I need to have a separate directory to hold the log text file
that browsers can have Write access to. The web site is hosted on a shared
server that I do not have direct access to. In the past, occasionally an
error has popped up that states the exact location, but I can not get that
to repeat. I know it is something like "D:customersmyuseridwww"

How can I find out the actual location on the server so I can use an
absolute path to write all the logs to one file in one location?

Need To Load File Path From Web Server Into Text Form Box

I need to load the file path of a file on a web server into a form text box. I tried using a normal form box using type=file but that just seems to return the file path from the local machine.

Ideally I'd like it if someone can get this to work with a file on a web server without using asp. If not then I suppose I'd have to use the FileSystemObject method. I can see how you can get a list of files from a remote server using FileSystemObject.

The problem I need help with is selecting a file path from the list of files into a text form box. The path of which I am then going to write to a database field.

Physical Pages Categories

I want to put my existing review books webpage in Asp/Database because I have more than 5000 of them and its now too complicated to keep tracks of it all in HTML only. My database is ready, I know how to connect to it, how to list records and how to select in them, I know how to pass a variable from a page to another, I know how to add, modify and delete records... yeah its about that so far.

Here is how I want my website to look like. I want to have physical pages categories, like all the science fiction books should be listed in sf pages separated alphabetically Ex reviews of Lord of the ring will be in sciencefictionT.asp and so on for each categories. I want too that a page with all the reviews listed linking to the right place. In my database I have already categories for each books.So is it possible to do or I complicate my life too much?

I know that it would be much more easier just to make a review.asp and have the review one at the time there, but I like the way my website is already is, that make it different from others.

ASP IIS 5.0 Mapping An FTP Share To The Physical Directory

I've setup several FTP shares on IIS 5, where some of the shares are
located on another computer, while other directories are on the local
computer.

Is there a function similar to server.mappath that I can use to return
the physical path of a FTP virtual directory using ASP?

For example, I have a virtual directory called TestA located at
C:TestA on the local computer running IIS 5. I have another virtual
directory called TestB located at DevserverTestB where Devserver is
another machine on the network.

In my ASP code, I need to be able to access the physical directories
directly and I would like to avoid having additional code to deal with
hard coded directory paths.

Is there something similar to the command server.mappath("TestB") which
would return "DevserverTestB"? This way, the physical path is
transparent and I can treat local and network shares in the same way.

How To Read An SQL Server Into A ASP Page And Then Change, Add, Delete And Write It Back To SQL Server

I need to read a SQL Server table into a Web Page and within the Web

The functionality I am looking is almost the same as In the SQL

the SQL Server table. I want almost a similar web interface to such a
functionality.

Even if not a generic functionality as the SQL Enterprise Manager
table maintenance appreciate if somebody can share the code with a
sample how I can do it in ASP pages + T-SQL if need be.

URL For Server Page

I'm developing a Web App using C#. I want a page in the app to refer to
another page in the app. I tried to create a web request with the page
address below:

pageAddress = "http://~/clientDBQuery.aspx";
WebRequest request = WebRequest.Create (pageAddress);

and got the following error:

Exception Details: System.UriFormatException: Invalid URI: The hostname
could not be parsed.

What is the syntax for referring to a page on the current site so I don't
have to change it when it's published?

When I used the following page address:

pageAddress = "http://clientDBQuery.aspx";

I didn't get the parsing error but the debugger didn't stop on a break point
I set in the LoadPage method. This seems to occurr because it goes to a page
on my ISP which doesn't exist.

What's the right way to handle this situation?

What I tried was an onClick event that issue a "location.href..." in hopes that this would load this referenced page, etc. but I have found that the browser waits until the server process had compled before executing the "location.href". is there some way that I can "signal" the server to stop processing so that I can go to the "location.href" page; or is there some other way?

Talking To Another Server From ASP Page

I have a set of ASP pages. The pages are hosted on IIS as a seperate application with their own global.asa. I have another web server (custom made by our development team) running on another port (say 6550) on the same machine where IIS is running. This web server is running inside a Win32/MFC DLL. I am looking for a way to achieve the following.

1. A user opens one of the ASP pages hosted on IIS in his browser.

2. On the server side IIS starts processing the ASP script.

3. The ASP script needs to pass the query string parameters to my DLL. My DLL will perform some operations and change some internal data values and will inform the ASP script about the success or failure.

4. The ASP script will send a response back to the user browser depending on the success or failure value returned from the DLL. It would most probably redirect the user browser (Response.Redirect) to another ASP page.

I am concerned about how to talk to my DLL. I have two options in my mind.

1. I can create an ActiveX. ASP script will create an instance of the ActiveX which will talk to my DLL by calling the appropriate functions and return the success or failure value to ASP script.

2. I can somehow call the custom web server (which is running inside my DLL) from inside the ASP script, passing it the query string parameters via a URL.

Because the web server is running inside my DLL, it can perform same operations and can change same values which I can perform and change using the DLL interface functions. And then my custom web server can return the success or failure value to the ASP script.

Option 1 is clear to me. I want to know whether option 2 is possible or not. Can I call my custom web server from the ASP script such that the ASP script does not use Response.Redirect?

Can the ASP script call a URL pointing to my custom web server, wait for my web server to do its processing and return the success or failure to the ASP script, and then redirect the user browser to another page depending on the success or failure value returned from my web server?

SQL Server Code From An ASP Page

I'd like to write a bunch of queries from a SQL Server 2000 database in my ASP page and have a way of copying this information into an excel workbook in specific cells. Writing the queries isn't the problem, I just need to place it in a file in different specific cells.

Is there a way to do this? Do you have to use VBA code or something? the *.iqy technique isn't going to work, cause I have to place the data in a sepcific excel file, in sepcific cells. I am not sure how to do this or if it's possibly, if anyone has any
ideas on where to start or find some sample code I'd REALLY appreciate it.
