Is there a way to save a file from a remote location to my local computer with asp?
Let's say as an example that I would like to save a file from
http://www.somesite.com/file.txt
to
c:file.txt
on my pc using an asp page located either on one of the two locations?
I have two machines, one generate files, and copy to the other. I try wscript.shell in my program, but it dit not work.
The two machines are not in the same domain. I saw some people's question but not suitable for me,their machine are in the same domain. They can assign permission to do the job.
How do I allow users to browse their local machine and upload a file to the server? I'm looking for the pop up window that allows the user to search for a file in their local machine. Also, once the file is in the server and the user needs to delete it, how do I do that?
On a remote server running W2K and thus IIS 5 I have session variables declared in a global.asa file in the root of the application which are passed and visible on all pages with no problem. This was also the case on my localhost before (127.0.0.1), also on W2K / IIS 5. But now for some reason one variable doesn't pass through at all and the other is taken as a String on the localhost.
The problem area in question in my Global.asa file (which is identical on the remote and local servers)
<script language="vbscript" runat="server">
Sub Session_OnStart CInt(Session("indx"))=0 CInt(Session("total"))=0 ... End Sub
Is it actually possible for a local access 2000 database to link to a remote database online via linked tables. I just wanted to know how feasible a LINKED TABLE scenario would be.
If this was possible it would solve so many administration problems and save development time when it comes to building asp-admin pages to manage the backend.
i want to run a website on a server with an sql database ( that in itself is no problem, i've done this before) but with a possibility to update the sql database with data stored on a local harddrive in an acess database, can ianyone give me some hints or websites with related info ?
I would like to reference a remote image, such as http://www.mysite.com/pic.jpg and save it to a local folder such as c:pics . Can this be done with ASP? I have played with many image manipulation components and none of them perform this fuction.
Is there a way to set the location where the input type="file" option gets its files from. I know you cannot set a default file, but is there a way to set where it starts looking.
Is it possible to get the filename, and more importantly the path, from inside an ASP file, when that file is included? I know it can be done for the base file using Server variables, but I can't figure out how to do that for an included file.
I need to write an application that uses include files, and that may be moved to another folder on the server...

I have an ASP application on IIS server: http://localhost/myApp I use ASP and a my own VB activex DLL to create a pdf file and write this file to a subfolder of the Application folder: http://localhost/myApp/pdfs
1- Over IIS I have set the "write permission" for this subfolder. But each time I receive the message: "Can't open output file (bad filename, in use by other application)", error 0x80040202
2- a visual basic test application can call this DLL, generate and write the file without problem to the folder
3- with ASP I generate the file in a normal folder (ie c: emp), it works Then my ASP page use FileSystemObject to copy this file to the folder ...MyApp/pdfs
When I call this page there is no error message, but the programm runs utils the line, where FileSystemObject to copy the file to the folder, then it stops there. The process is hung (dead). The file is not copied...
I made a image upload a while ago, but too many people submits too large images (this is no problem, since ASP Upload won't upload too large images) but people gets frustrated when their images are not uploaded!I want to do so that you can't submit the form if the pictures are too large. I was thinking of doing a asp functions to check the file size and then pass the result to a javascript function, which will then alert the user and denie him to submit the images.I know how to do the javascript part, but I don't know how to check a local file's size with asp? I'd appreciate if someone could help me! Thanks.

There is a link in the asp page "Click to view Image file",On clicking on this link,The graphical image need to be stored(Preferably in the server machine) and has to be opened in a new browser window.
To explain in detail. On clicking of that link"Click to view Image file" a function is called which does the following
1)Save the image file(.gif file) on the server machine Graph.ImagetoGif("Location to be saved",100,200); 2) Opens the image on a new browser window.
window.open('from location from where the image is to be retreived',100,some more properties) So i need the image file to be saved in the server and retreived from the server.
I'm working on a document management app that saves scanned docs as PDF files in a local directory, then saves document metadata in an Internet-based SQL server.
The SQL server is then queried to retrieve document info and links are created that point to the files.
The code points to the proper local directory and file, but I can't get the browser to open the document in a target frame. If I open a test doc locally it works fine.
Having finally mastered freeASPUpload, I really want the files being uploaded to the web server to automatically be forwarded to my local inhouse server. I'm sure there has to be a way.
my current setting is user will click a link in the web page and choose the place that they want to save the file to.
Now i am trying to auto download the file. that means user click the link, it straight away download to for eg. "D:Test". my problem is the web page is at server. user will access the web page thru http, but how am i going to auto download to the user's local drive?

I have sucessfully able to copy file to a remote mechine in our network by writing some asp code. To make it sucessful, I had to keep destination folder in remote mechine as "Share" for IUSER that my ASP code running with.
I thought just giving the IUSER write permission on the destination folder will allow to copy the file. But it does not, I had to keep the folder "Shared". Is there any way that I can copy file to a remote mechine without havving the folder "Shared".

My problem is that we have a large text wherein the candidate will paste his entire resume for reference. Once he submits it, while viewing if we copy and paste the text to word, the alignment is not there at all.
Could anyone suggest some option to attach the resume and store it in the database and then downloading the resume as it is. Could anyone help me out on this as soon as possible.
Is there a way to load a text file from a remote server into a string much like using the Inet Control in VB? I am familiar with reading in RSS feeds, but what should I do if the content is a straight text file?
