This is my problem. I am adding to a table called Case the details of a case.Now the primary key for that, is an ID which is generated automatically by the DB.
I also have two relational tables related to the Case table, so I need to add records there. For this I need the case_id
just generated by the database when I added the case. What would be a good way to get that case_id?
I also need the case_id, because the interface to add info to the case table is spread across two tables, so when the user goes to the first page and "saves and continues" I want to store the case_id for the second interface page.If I select all the records from case, would I select the newest record first or would it be the last?
Ok here is what I'm trying to do. I want to grab a random record from a specific table. This is how I am doing it now:
x = 0 Set rs = Conn.Execute("SELECT Count(*) as total FROM [user] WHERE active = '1'") If rs.EOF <> True then total = rs("total") End if Randomize timer randnum1 = int(rnd * total) If randnum1 = 0 then randnum1 = 1 End if rs.close set rs = nothing
Set rs = Conn.Execute("SELECT * FROM [user] WHERE id = '" & randnum1 & "' ") Now that would work fine, BUT the id is a autonumber int of 1.
Now look at this example. Let's say I have 50 records, so I have the ID values of 1 through 50. Now I delete record number 46. So now my count goes up to 49. So the random number will pull up ANY number between 1 and 49, so if it pulls up 46 then BAAAM record can not be found.
There has to be an easier/more efficient way of getting a random record. I don't plan on deleting any records, but I just don't feel this is the best way of doing this.
Say I have a field containig some text, for example: The quick brown fox jumped over the fence. How do I only show the first 4 words of the sentance, i.e: The quick brown fox...
I want to select a random record from a table within my Access database, however I am running into problems. When the page is executed, it always shows the same record. Code:
<% Dim oConn, oRS, randNum Randomize() randNum = (CInt(1000 * Rnd) + 1) * -1 Set oConn=Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") Set oRS=Server.CreateObject("ADODB.recordset") oConn.Provider="Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" oConn.Open Server.MapPath("temp.mdb")
oRS.Open "SELECT TOP 1 EMAIL_ADDRESS, r = Rnd(" & randNum & ") FROM TABLE1 ORDER BY r", oConn, adOpenStatic, adLockReadOnly
Response.Write oRS("EMAIL_ADDRESS")
oRS.close oConn.close Set oConn = nothing Set oRS = nothing %>
this gives the error: "No value given for one or more required parameters".
what i would really LOVE is for someone to fill in whatever required parameter im missing, but more important i would like to understand whats going on. there are people who go through life dumb and happy once something "works", but i need to understand how and why its working. even if this code did work, im confused with the SELECT statement (no, i dont have much SQL experience aside from basic queries). what is the "r = Rnd" line doing in the middle of the querie? how am i ordering by r?? also, i dont have an indexed, primary "ID" field in this databae. is that ok for this code to work?
cmdTemp.CommandText = "Select * From users" cmdTemp.CommandType = 1 Set cmdTemp.ActiveConnection = DataConn
rstContacts.Open cmdTemp, , 1, 3
rstContacts.Move CLng(Request("Record"))
i only want this command to display from the users table the details of the user that has the username (from the database) equal to the username of the person who has just logged in from my login form (uname input box) this code at the moment displays the first record, i dont want that.
I have an insert record form that posts fine to a db which automatically creates an ID how could I get the next page to do a preview using the ID just created by the DB to go to the right record?
I have a .asp page which lists a date, then a bunch of record lines for data that falls within that date, then the next date and it's bunch of data record lines. e.g.
Ship Date: 04/06/04
Data xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Data xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Data xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Data xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Ship Date: 11/07/04
Data xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Data xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Data xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
What I want is:
Ship Date: 04/06/04
1: Data xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 2: Data xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 3: Data xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 4: Data xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Ship Date: 11/07/04
1: Data xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 2: Data xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 3: Data xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
How can I get these numbers printed againsts the records ?
I have written some code which should dynamically build a table which is then populated with questionas and possible answers. The format of the answers will vary ie they may be in the form of a radio button which will be rated from 1-5, checkbox or a selectbox.
The first problem I have is if I do not comment out <select></select> I get an error message saying the page can not be found. when I do take it out I get asp timeout. Code:
does anyone know what I have wrong with this select in my form?
<% sql = "SELECT * FROM [LTAB_CAProcessArea]" Set ProcessAreaRS = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") ProcessAreaRS.Open sql, SessionCPRDBConnection, adOpenStatic, adLockOptimistic, adCmdText %>
<select name="processarea"> <% Do While Not ProcessAreaRS.EOF Resonse.Write("<option name='" & ProcessAreaRS("processareaID") & "'>") Response.Write(ProcessAreaRS("txtProcessArea")) Response.Write("</option>")
I don't know if this is in the right section. I hope it is.I have an HTML document that uses tables and stuff. I also have a FORM on there with some input boxes, Radio buttons and <select> options. I have a .asp VB file also that processes the actual form and writes the answered questions to a text file on the server (tab separated) My problem: The input boxes and radio buttons work fine. It writes to the text file on the sever end.
My problem is I am not too sure how to go making the answers from the <select> options to also write to the server. They way I have it set up right now, it jsut writes "NULL" on the text file.
I've recently come across using "Select Last" in an sql query. Does anyone have any info or views on using it? Until now I've relied on "Select Max" but Select Last would have distinct advantages when using random autonumbers. I'm also curious about why there is so little info on it - perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places?
I want to display an editable page extract from MS Access table. Now I want to show the value in Select list, extract from another table. Both tables are joinable with the foreign key.
In simplest, I want to extract and display the exact value from a table and show in Select list for edit.
I could not think of any way. I can bring up data and display in Select list but it would display the first value in the list only.
I have the following SQL SELECT statement below that doesn't like the TOP 50 parameter. When I remove it, all is good. When I put it back I get "Incorrect syntax near '50'". Code: SELECT TOP 50 SSN, LName, FName, License_Certificate, Character_Identifier, CertificateNo, " & _ "tblIndividualInfo.IndividualID, tblLicense.LicenseID FROM tblIndividualInfo " & _ "INNER JOIN (tblLicense INNER JOIN stblLicenseType ON tblLicense.LicenseTypeID = stblLicenseType.ID) ON " & _ tblIndividualInfo.IndividualID = tblLicense.IndividualID " & strWhere & " ORDER BY LName, FName
i attach a pic file to show wat i wanted to do a few data will be listed out i want the total from that particular few records only. not the whole records in database
I know this is an ASP forum but I've also gotten answers to my SQL problems here and I'd appreciate your help very much. I have these two tables in SQL. Both tables have the same two columns (Description and SiebelName). I want to some how write a script that will look for the descriptions that matches the ones in Table1 with the ones in Table2 and if there are any I would like to take the column in Table2, SName, and update the column in Table1, SiebelName, with that of Table2. Here's what I attempted to do but it's not working: -------------------------------- UPDATE tbl_MasterTEST SET tbl_MasterTEST.SiebelName = Siebel.SName WHERE (SELECT tbl_MasterTEST.ProdDesc, tbl_MasterTEST.SiebelName, Siebel.SDesc, Siebel.SName FROM tbl_MasterTEST, Siebel WHERE tbl_MasterTEST.ProdDesc = Siebel.SDesc)
strSQL = "SELECT * FROM mod48 WHERE N_GEN = 5" oRs.open strSQL,oConn,3
this table has alot of fields. I want it to automatically create alot of Text boxes for each field. But i also need the fields names. The only thing is that the field names in the table are well not very user friendly.
n_gen = General Numer pa_name = Client Name pa_surname = Client SurName
So i was wondering is there something i can do. Like a For each that will create alot of tect boxes for each field "with its value in it" and also make it write a description for the lable. Code:
I have a select statement that searches for certain records within a date range entered through a form. what i need to do on another page is count how many records they are and split them into each day within that date range. My original select query is: Code:
objRSError.Source = "SELECT TOP 100 PERCENT TrapPage, TrapLine, COUNT(TrapID) AS ErrorVol, TrapDescription, TrapASPDescription, TrapCategory FROM dbo.tblErrorTraps WHERE (TrapTime >= CONVERT(DATETIME, '" & objRSError__strFrom & "', 103)) AND (TrapTime <= CONVERT(DATETIME, '" & objRSError__strTo & "', 103))GROUP BY TrapPage, TrapLine, TrapDescription, TrapASPDescription, TrapCategory ORDER BY COUNT(TrapID) DESC"
I have an ASP application.Is it right that I am calling all SELECT's AND DML's through stored procedures and in the ASP page I just call the stored procedure.
I am NOT using COM,i.e.I am not calling the procedures through DLL's but directly through ASP as time does not permit me to add this layer.
tell me is this right and is this a common practise followed i.e.calling stored procedures directly thru ASP without COM.Also,what is the main benifit of using SP than dynamic queries as there are plenty of suggestions dont know what is the conclusion.
I have a database containing information in different fields one of those fields is a datetime field, i want to select everything from that table where the datetime field is a monday or tuesday etc.
if the user select the EmployeeID in drop down list, and then click the submit button, and it will look up database and show the Employee Name in the text box, this is easy.
But my case is: when the user select the employeeid in drop down list, it willfire the onchange event, and then look up database and show the employee name in the text box. There is no submit button.
I have a form that contains text fields, text areas and select/lists. The form.asp gets sent through: <form method="POST" action="Confirm.asp"> When I receive the completed form it contains submitted info from all of the text fields ie: CompanyName=Request.form("companyName"), but the responses in the 'select' fields are empty.
Do the select (drop down list) fields need to be coded differently than text fields in order for the response to get posted back to me?
how to place 3 Select Box's on screen? The first Select box will have the category heading. The second Select Box will have its sub_Categories. The third Select Box will have that Sub_Category's Products.
I have a Form page with many fields. The name field is a Select button which displays all the names available in a table. On selecting a name, the corresponding Desgination field should be displayed.
my sql statement outputs this, Am I missing smth ? Code:
SELECT sch_route FROM schedule WHERE sch_date =#8/27/2007# and sch_route ='Night_Owl_East_Orange' AND Trim(Training) = 'No' AND Shift_Interval IN (1,2) AND ((sch_time_start >= '05:12 AM' AND sch_time_end <= '06:45 AM') OR (sch_time_start < '05:12 AM' AND sch_time_end BETWEEN ('05:12 AM' AND '06:45 AM')) OR (sch_time_end > '06:45 AM' AND sch_time_start BETWEEN ('05:12 AM' AND '06:45 AM')) OR (sch_time_start BETWEEN ('05:12 AM' AND '06:45 AM') AND sch_time_end BETWEEN ('05:12 AM' AND '06:45 AM'))) The error
