Storing A DB Outside My Site Folders - Reference It?

My web host has stated that If I want users to be able to write to my database. I need to store it outside my site folder. So I have a site folder called www and a folder next to it named database. If I insert my database into that folder how would I reference it in my html?

How do you say in HTML "leave the www folder and find the database folder?"

Building An ASP Site Using Dreamweaver - Can Html Site Be On ASP Server?

I am to build a site onto an ASP server. Anyone here used Dreamweaver and is it just a simple matter of opening up a new ASP page in Dreamweaver and build the site like you would normally do with a HTML page and it will handle the ASP coding accordingly and you can just simply upload it onto an ASP server and it will work?

The site I am to build is basically just a standard html website, but my friend wants me to build it for an ASP server so he has asked me to make sure it is an asp site so I am presuming with the extension .asp

If I build it as a html site to begin with, will converting it to asp be hard. Could I just export my pages into asp or is there more to it?

Can a Html website be loaded and working on an asp server or host?

Is it possible to have a site mixed both html and asp, eg. the home page is html and when you click on shopping cart on the home page it goes to a hopping cart page thats .asp or do they all have to have the same extension.

When Is Reference To DLL Released

I'm writing a custom COM object used by certain pages on a site. During
development, I need to replace this dll periodically, but have found that is
in use and can't be replaced. This is true even after all browsers have
been closed, and sufficient time allowed for a session to expire. The only
thing I have found that works is to restart IIS thru the IIS mgmt console.

The object is used like this:

var vObject = Server.CreateObject('MyObject');
//do something with it
vObject = null;

Is there another way to replace this dll short of taking the entire site
down?

Function Reference On The Web

I'm trying to convert some ASP pages to PHP, but I don't know ASP very well (as in: at all ), and there are calls ASP is making whose purpose and function is unknown to me. I tried looking for a reference on the web where I can search any function name and get a reference to what it does, but I have been unable to find it.

Is it somewhere really obvious and I just missed it like an idiot? Is there such a site out there at all? I need to translate ASP to PHP and as such need to read it, not write it, so a index/reference sort of site would be better than a learning ASP sort of site.

I see a lot of " ./ " stuff - but I am not quite sure what it means. Is there any other sort of things like ./ ? If you have any advice or have a link that explains this.

Site Search Powered By Google Site Map?

Whenever I do a site that is mostly static but with some semi-dynamic
sections, I've struggled to find a good site search solution without
paying for a hosted search service.

I like the FSO-based search engines, but they fail to pick up on some of
the dynamic part.

I was just creating a Google sitemap and it made me wonder: has anyone
created or seen a script that uses the XML Google sitemap to power a
search engine for your own site?

Seems like if you were keeping it updated for Google, why not use it for
your own site?

How To Reference A Form Name In A For Loop

I've been struggleing with this chunk of code:

for j = 1 to totalManagers2
Response.Write("# in J loop:" & j & "<br/>")
If Request.Form("j") = "on" Then
myToField = myToField + recipiant(j)
Response.Write("recipiant's email is :" & recipiant(j) & "<br/>")
validRecipiant = true
End if
next

My problem lies with line ' "If Request.Form("j") = "on" Then '...

Now on the first page, I have a form, which I dynamically populate a table, and for each row, I output an HTML checkbox. I assign the name of that check box to a # that is incremented within the for-loop that is outputting all the HTML table rows.

So I have check boxes with name attributes such as "1", "2", "3", "4" and so on.

My question is, on the next page, how do I tell if those check boxes are checked? I use the Request.Form("1"), Request.Form("2"), Request.Form("3"), Request.Form("4") and so on.

But as you can see, in my For-Loop, I'm just checking this...
Request.Form(1), Request.Form(2)...and so on ....

So I am ignoring the quotation marks...how can I include them so the code knows to look at the form for the name attribute of "1" and not just 1?

Select Where No Reference Is Made

is there an sql command that allows me to select all rows where a specific field isn't called by other rows? To be more specific: I have this table for my categories. I want to be able to choose all the categories that don't have subcategories. The fields are

CaName
CaId
CaParent

So a category has a parent, so caParent = the CaId of it's parent. So is there a way to call all the categories that don't have children categories in my sql?

Application To Find Closest Grid Reference

I'm building a 'spot the ball' gaming site where people choose a point on an image closest to where the ball should be. This works in Flash by assigning co-ordinates to that point.

However, I need to do a database look-up when the competition is over, to see who has the closest point. I'm hoping to build an ASP application that will enable the administrator to enter the correct co-ordinates, then click a button to find the closest entry in the database. I can't think of an accurate automated way to do this. Has anyone built anything similar? What would be the best way to achieve this?

A) ADOX documentation on the Web that's better than Microsoft's

B) Downloadable code that uses ADOX for schema maintenance.

C) A good book on ADOX programming.

SSL Folders

I have a domain www.company.com and also a sub domain like
forum.company.com I have learned that the sub domain is actually a
folder under my main domain so if I typed www.company.com/forum - it
would go to the same file as if I typed the sub domain, unfortunatly
all the files in the subdomain point to root paths eg:
/Images/logo.gif

This isn't a problem as the subdomain is seperate and I treat it like
its a new website.

I was wondering before I spend more money and activate a 10mb SSL
folder - how would I actually code for this folder?

Is the SSL on a seperate server, or just a folder off the main domain
name?

I want to do a register system "username" etc & some personnal details
through a sercure line.

Can anyone point me to where I can get more info?

based on the query string.I'd like to intercept calls to http://host/Application/Catalog and translate into http://host/Application/?Document=Catalog before it is passed to the custom
error 404 handler. Can it be done - do I need a HTML filter or something?

My Home Page on the Server is http://maxitek (the name of my Windows98

becomes C:Inetpubwwwroot which when I try to create links to the sub

but not with their full subfolder names, i.e., for a file called
"C:Inetpubwwwrootmytestmytest2mytest.txt" I am getting a link that just

Create Folders

I have written some ASP code that creates a group of folders using the FileSystemObject. It all works fine when the folders are being created on the same server becuase I have the correct permissions. The problem is that the code is going to be activated when people do something on our intranet. The guy in IT has set up the permissions for the Inetuser account so that in theory it should work.

It isn't working though. The first place it falls over is when I check to see if a folder exists on this other server, it doesn't find it. I am trying to access it using the full path i.e.

If fso.FolderExists(//servername/folder1/folder2)) then...

That doesn't seem to work though because it doesn't find it when it definitely exists. Does anyone know how I should be doing this?
