Testing ASP Pages With Windows Front Page
I have FrontPage 2003 on my XP laptop. I need to test some web pages with *.asp codes which worked perfectly well with my old Win95 computer in the past. Of course I had to install Personal Web Server to it in order to do the job.
The help files of FP, gives the clue that it has the facilities to behave like a server and test interactive web pages. But I haven't seen the use of ASP pages with it. I do not wish to install a server on my XP just to test ASP pages.

I have a website using ASP. All the codes are written in Front Page (Microsoft Office for Windows XP).
I want to use Front Page 2003 and Microsoft Office 2003.The website codes are going to transfer to the Front Page 2003.
Would it going to be a problem since all the codes were originally created in Office for windows XP?

I have created a workorder form on Front Page that employees use to send in computer and other maintenance problems. In the form properties, I can choose to send the data to a database OR send it in an email, but can not choose both. We have it going to a database so we can better manage the data. But we would also like to send an email notification when a new record is added to the database.
I've tried this in Access on the database end but came up emptyhanded. The Access gurus have suggested it's something I need to do in html on the form. My html is very limited so I'm hoping someone can tell me if this is possible, and how I would go about doing it. The HTML gurus suggested it was an ASP issue.

my site (which I am currently redeveloping) has 3 different sections to the site. All which well contain different information.
What I want to know is how can I make the starting page of the site display information which the users is looking for.
eg. if the user always go to one section of the site the main page well show information relevant to that section. (I hope you know what I mean)
So I was thinking about how to do this and this is what I came up with.
Set a cookie for the site and each section has there own number value (eg. 1 to 10)
When the user hits the main page it gets the values of all 3 sections from the cookies and checks which has the most value (eg 3, 5, 10).
Based upon the highest value each section has there own .asp include which is shown to the user.

I don't want to specify the location of the image each time, I would like that to populate through the recordset - is there a way or will I have to always specify the image location?

I recently upgraded my computer from XP Home Edition to XP Pro. I did this so that I could work with ASP pages on my home PC. I have installed and configured IIS just as I have in the past, but when I attempt to connect to any of the ASP pages via IE, I see that a connection is attempted in the status bar, but after waiting a few minutes, I finally receive a Page Cannot Be Displayed error. Keep in mind this is not a coding error, because it occurs even when I try to access the IISHelp folder in the default website section through the Management Console.
One other note - I do have Mcafee Security Center installed on this machine. I have attempted connecting with all of the options in the security center disabled, and I have also attemped connecting with all of the non-essential programs running in the background terminated (I did this through the Task Manager). I don't believe that the Mcafee applications are causing this problem, but I thought it might be important to mention in case anyone knows of an existing conflict.

Has anyone had any problems with Win2003 Service Pack 1 messing up things in IIS regarding asp pages? I had a small test site working yesterday and last night I ran the Windows critical updates on the server that included Service Pack 1. This morning my asp pages are not working.
Also I'm using Dreamweaver MX 2004 and I'm trying to setup another database connection for another page. I connect to the access .mdb file and it tests successfully. However, when I go to look at the tables in Dreamweaver, it shows that there are NO tables.
I know that there are tables and it was working yesterday. Nothing has changed between yesterday and today except for the windows critical updates. Any ideas??

maybe I must do something obvious to fix that.

My website is currently made up of HTML pages and residing on a Windows server.
Currently converting them all to ASP, that is going from .html extensions to .asp (besides adding funking asp functions)
My pages have all being indexed by Google, so wouldn't risk loosing good ranking with Javascript redirects, so I tought using this would solve the issue, for example, on a file named thatpage.html
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" runat="server">
Response.Status="301 Moved Permanently"
Response.AddHeader "Location", "http://www.mywebsite.com/thatpage.asp"
</SCRIPT>
Wherever where I insert it, in the head, in the body, before the DOC, it's not working, will have to resort to javascript? Will I have to put a link in the html page leading to the asp page? Wouldn't like to have user click agin to be led to the .asp version?

The ASP application uses the "File" active-x control. On windows 2003
IIS(6.0), the download the file fails with the Error: Request object error
'ASP 0104 : 80004005'
The above error is retuned by my asp code: lnBytes =
Request.BinaryRead(lnByteCount)
I did not see this error on windows 2000 server. Is there any solution/workaround available on Windows 2003 IIS(6.0) for this issue.

To provide enriched GUI in .NET Windows Forms can replace ASP.NET Web Forms in a Web Application.
To host/activate a Windows Forms control within Internet Explorer (IE):
1. Create a Windows Forms control
2. Create an HTML document with an object tag that identifies the Windows Forms control
3. Configure the virtual directory for proper activation of the control
4. Configure Code Access Permissions
5. Run the control
.NET Redistributable should be present in the client to run this control in IE.
What will be the performance of a page designed in this manner?
An ASP.NET page (using Web Forms) provides a performance of around 3 seconds over a decent internet link. Will the same be achievable using Windows Forms?
No doubt, Windows Forms provide the best performance for Desktop Applications, but what about in a Web Application as explained above?
This approach is similar to Java Applets. And Applets have failed over the web in time critical applications.
I surfed quited a few .NET related sites (MSDN, gotdotnet etc.) for typical numbers on performance for this kind of page design, but in vain.

(the last time I do that). Anyway, that emailing form doesn't work now on
any of the sites I host. Any ideas?

We've recently rebuilt our entire website with a normalized database
structure (previous structure was horrific). The structure is great now,
but we also recoded approximately 5000 ASP pages. Site went up today with
minimal difficulty (probably 10 minor problems). Then, at about 4pm, the
entire web server locked up and we weren't able to access it. I couldn't
get into it via remote desktop, explorer or any other means and the site
locked up entirely. Any idea what could be causing this (outside of a
fluke)?

I always heard people saying IIS ASP front end, and MS-SQL back end. ASP is
for server side programming and dynamic content generation, how could it is
called front end? Because I thought it is executed in the server, which is
back end? I think I am confused with the term front end and back end here.
