Can anyone recommend project management, timeline and calendar apps I could
install on my own site? Hopefully ASP and SQL based. Most of my searches are
ending with expensive or limited options. Free is great of course! I need
something reasonably priced.
Over my years developing ASP applications and writing asp code in general I have created a library of nice little apps and functions that I use over and over again.
I was "thinking" about maybey setting up a site with all my useful functions, subroutines, and possibly applications for people to download and hopefully donate some money if they use them. Perhaps even have some apps for sale only.
The apps will mainly be my useful plugin developments such as guestbook, gallery, login system etc. My question however is do you think it would be worth the time and effort? Do you find yourself using plugins a lot?
I defo think the functions could be handy but again how many of you search for functions to help you out or indeed how many of you currently use functions you have gotten from other people? Would you donate something if you used them?
Mayby some of you have already done something like this and can let me know how you got on?
My client has the need to upgrade to Windows 2000 Server from NT4 but are concerned about whether there existing custom code (ASP,VB6,MTS, etc) will work correctly once migrated. Does anyone know where I might be able to find information relating to what functionality has been deprecated in Windows 2000 Server since NT4 (I know CDONTS is one of them).
Are there some easy to use (and free) web scanning tools that can check for security vulnerabilities (SQL injection, cross site attacks) on classic ASP apps and suggest ways to fix them?

Does anyone implemented/created any facebook applications using ASP? Is there any recommended url? It seems that asp is lagging behind for web2.0 apps... but i still love asp.
I have 2 seperate web applications A and B. During the execution of A, I want to do a Server.Transfer to a page in application B. This works fine if A has a reference to B, but without the reference, I get the following error:
Parser Error
Description:
An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately.
Parser Error Message:
Could not load type 'B.WebForm1'.

It seems to be looking for B.dll in the path for application A, and can't find it. Because of the specifics of this project I am unable to set a reference, or even include a <codeBase> element in the config file. Is there any way to force the runtime to look in the path of the target application instead of the launching app?
First, I've got to apologise if I ask some stupid sounding questions, I'm not trained as a programmer and I'm trying to learn some basics with the help of kind people like yourselves on dev forums.
So, here's the deal. I just purchased a new subscription for shared .asp hosting on a new server. So, I uploaded all my .asp files etc to the new server, keeping the old structure.
You can see the site at www.hydra-breaks.net
The public side of the site runs fine, but I can no longer use any of the admin tools - mostly information submission forms. When I use *any* of the forms, I press "submit", then receive the error message:
Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator to inform of the time the error occurred and of anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
I don't have admin access as it's shared hosting, or access to the IIS... does anyone have some suggestions?
Are there any free components out there that will analyse IIS log files and write selected information to a DB?
I know there are free packages like Analog and Webalizer, but I'm more interesting in an app or component that feeds log files in to a DB so that it can be queried later.
What's a great tool to use to deploy n-tier web-based apps? I'm thinking in terms of an installer that produces a package that a client can run that will set up one or more IIS sites, copy files to an NTFS partition and set permissions, create an application and install COM objects in Component Services, attach (or script the creation and population of) a SQL Server 2000 database, etc.
I'm currently using ASP, IIS 5.0, SQL Server 2000 and VS 6.0 but am about to take the plunge into .NET for new development. What are the tools that I should be looking at?
What I am trying to do is to develop a dhtml based chat system. So far everything is working as planned, took me over 6 hours to get it working, but I am pleased with the results, it is comparable to java chat. With no page refresh. My problem is How do we manage which users are online on chat and which are not. I do not wish to use any application variables nor do i wish to use session variables. i am trying to avoid the 2 Either the user may simply close the chat window, or he might just go and browse another site. Either way I do not get to write the even to the database.
I have been asked to create a contact form for a website in ASP that will mail off the form data to a e-mail address but also log the e-mail data in a database. They then want a web page on-line that they can view all the e-mails in (not a e-mail client, just a html view of each one). Now i have two issues with this, 1. i have never coded in ASP in my life, (php yes, lots) and 2. i dont see the point in being able to view them online when they will have the e-mail in their desktop mail client.Does anyone know of a script that will do what i'm after that is free and uses MSAccess not SQL Server? It's a big ask, but if there was something a bit like it i could have a go at modifying it.
Could anyone tell me what big corporations do for link management? For my site, whenever I want to change a URL, I don't want to because I know there are 10 pages with that link...
But, right now I'm doing a redesign and will be editing every page, so I thought I'd better find out if there's an efficient way to manage my links...
My first thought was to create a page which I include in every page, and this page has all the links for diff pages, like so:
Has anoyone ever tried to create an asp page that displays images that either displays them as a slideshow or on a long webpage?
I have an html page that displays my pictures, but as there are many of them which are large and my bandwidth is restricted I want to download them and display them one at a time. Currently it the client tries to download them all at the same time, or four at a time. This slows down the downloads to an unbearable rate.
Is there a component that allows you detect when an image has been downloaded and then allow a trigger to start downloading the next one?
Is there any differenc ein the way ASP handles the Session management in Windows 2000 server with IIS 5.0 and 2003 Server with IIS 6.0?
Did anything changed with respect to the Cookie Management?
My code works well in 2000 with IIS5.0 and if I changed my deployment environment to Windows 20003 with IIS 6.0, Cookie management is not consistent and I am not able to maintain the sessions at some places.
I am looking for some type of way to allow a client to update their web site. The thing is, I do not want them to be able to format the text in anyway. All I want them to be able to do is just type the text that they want....no formatting by them allowed at all.
Is there a program already made that would allow me to do this?If not what would be the best way to approach this?
Is there any way a Form can be made automatically not retain its field values after it has been succcessfully posted in classical ASP. Something like the way ASP.Net can perform state management in postbacks automatically.
I am developing a Simple ASP Application with a Login page. I want to know how session ID can be generated after User has authenticated instead of generation along with the Login page request.
Also Session ID must be unique each time the user logs in. This is required so that Session Hijacking and Session Fixation could be prevented. Should I have to use other process instead of General ASP Session Management.
I want to know how to write a code to get related articles which have posted in a cms system, in other way I want get related articles with one which I have posted in my database like some thing in Vbulletin forum system, it under each pages has a section named related topics and show related articles about opened topic.
Is there an article out there on dealing with content management systems and how to replace characters (i.e. an apostrophe in a content management system can't be put directly into a DB column, likewise paragraphs have to have the html code in them to work).
we are having a form where i can add products to my cart. so the user here can go on to no of pages giving details like no of products . i am using cookies for mantaining the session information like no of productds, product name, item price etc. now after all these process a page will apear where there wil be a button called "Pay Now". When the user clicks this button i should be able to clear all the cookies that are stored in the client side....
i've used in my site a free user management package ,but i wanna change the Background color of that package,to match mine, but i don't know is it an included file contains these formats or coding!i've attached the package.plz check & lead me to where to change the colors?
Does anyone know of a free script that I can use to create a login area for clients to view progress on the website I am creating for them, and then also view invoices etc, I don't really want to have to make somthing if it already out there,
Do any of the ASP programmers on this form utitlize ASP Content Management Systems for any of their customer (or own sites). If so, I would be grateful for any feedback and thoughts on using CMS in a hybrid static or asp web page environment.
We are reaching the point where our site content and format is chaning too rapidly to be able to deploy custom asp applications quickly enough or smoothly enough.
If this is too off-topic could someone advise a robust discussion forum where I could pose this question?
Basically, I want to create a site where users can download files for free. It's almost like a windows theme site if you've seen one of those. There's a file (zipped) that contains the files, and users can view an image to see what this "theme" would like if they downloaded it and installed it.
I'd need something out of the box that:
Allows user uploads Allows file rating Allows users to sort files by ratings Allows for categories and sub-categories Runs on MS SQL
I can code a lot of the finer details, but I'd like something to start with to help save me some time. Cost isn't really an issue.
Anyone have any ideas? I've checked hotscripts.com and aspin.com and couldn't really find anything. but maybe I missed something... or maybe you know of something.
I recently upgraded to CS3 from Dreamweaver MX and was surprised to discover that the automatic coding for Recordsets had changed quite a lot. The software now generates commands rather than recordsets. IE :
I have a certain Internet project to develop, and I'm Interested in advices Regarding good development tools available in terms of getting Maximum job done in minimum time and minimum investment in buying third party development software.
In general, the project is to turn a static HTML website to a dynamic ASP pages Enabling the site owner a friendly interface to change its contents. In addition it a required to have the possibility to change the Website into a "members only" website allowing A registration process and an automatic or manual billing.
i was thinking that the use of some Content Management Solution is the most suitable for this case.I would like to hear your opinions on the subject + references, links,Recommendations for the easiest, cost effective ways to implement that sort of project.
