Uploading Images And Storing File Name, Height And Width In Database
How can I accomplish the following:
I want to upload image files (jpg) into a sub-directory of a website root directory using a web interface allowing the user to browse their drive and select the jpg file to upload.
Also, is there a way to parse the information from the jpg file and insert the information into a SQL database table which would hold the file name, image height, and image width?
I'm new to handling binary files, so I'm not sure how to accomplish this?

I am working on a book selling website using ASP with an Access DB.
Basically i would like to have an image of each book in the DB to be displayed upon request in the website. So I guess what i would really like to know is
1. Can i store .jpg or .gif files in an Access DB?
2. Does it make sense to do this?
3. Would it be better to have some kind of pointer in the DB to a place in the file system where the image is stored? .......

I have an ASP page which displays different images according to the querystring and the images are all of different sizes. However, in some browsers the image overlaps with the text next to it occasionally.
I guess by specifying the "width" and "height" of the image in the HTML should solve the problem. However, I do not want to store the width and height of each image in the database. (There are too many of them!) Is there any function I can use in my ASP page to obtain the width and height of an image?

I know there must be a JavaScript way, but is there a VBScript way? I asked here, because if there's a javascript way I need to also use VB with it...since I want to trim an image if it's over a certain size...
For example:
Picture from database: width = ? height = ?
Detect image size as width = 300 height = 250
Trim image down to 200 x 150
Example 2:
Image width = 300 but height is OK, at 150
Trim width to 200 ....

I have a popup where I scale the image to a smaller size than original. Iused to set the img tag to width="50%". This no longer works in the current edition of IE on MS. On Mac IE it still does. Go figure.
So... I now need to set the width to a fixed value. I also need to adjust the popup to the value of the image height + some value to allow for text etc.
The quandry? How can I get the height and width of an image into a variable for use on the calling asp page.

My database only has an image field (sql2005).
All the tutorials I find have the databse with additional fields like Filename, FileSize, FileData, FileID, Contenttype, etc.
I want to upload into ONLY that image field because my windows app accesses the same database, and it doesn't use those additional fields. does someone out there have a tutorial or some code example or SOMETHING related to uploading a file into a SQL database?

I want to post the form data (http://server/page1.asp) to a modal dialog
window (http://server/modaldialog.asp) with a desired height 200px by width
200px.
Here's my attempts and problems:
Attempt #1) In http://server/page1.asp, it has code <form
action="http://server/modaldialog.asp" method="post" target="_blank">
In http://server/modaldialog.asp, it has code <body onBlur = "self.focus()">
It can produce modal dialog window modaldialog.asp, but I want to set the
width and height of modaldialog.asp.
Attempt #2) var sReturn = window.showModalDialog("modaldialog.asp", params,
"dialogHeight:200px; dialogWidth:200px;");
This is the effect I want. But this is not posting the form data to
modaldialog.asp.
Any workarounds to my problems??

I have a wast databse of records, where there are so many Images assiociated with each record. I store the Image paths, record's primary key in the database and retrive them as and when required to display the records and the necessary images corresponding to the records. the image path as of now contains a relative path from the root directoy.
Problem:
The main problem is ..what happenes when the hard disk is full and if i add another harddisk.. and add images into that new hard disk. how will i be able to address the images?? as they are in a separate hard disk hence cannot be addressed relative to the web site's root directory..

Ok I looked around and read some articles about using a db to store images and stuff about having to save it as a blob. How exactly would you input it though? Is is the standard "insert" query?
Also, if I don't plan to use the image itself in the db (to reduce slow down) and store the path instead, would it still be easy to load it into a webpage as if it were to be in the db? Or should i just store it into the db?

I need some advice/ideas on how I could do the following:
I want to store articles which contain both images and text - like a writeup of an event - kind of an image and text blog.
I want to store articles in a database probably - at the moment I use access databases.
Clearly I could have the text of my article in one field and store images (or links to them) in other fields and then display all the images at the end of the article but what I want is..
to be able to make it to have text then a few paragraphs down have a nice right aligned image with text to the left of it and then some more text etc etc so it looks like a static, layout planned article.
What would be the best way to go about this? Can this be done by storing in a database?

1) I need to build an admin page that allows me to browse to the file that I
want stored in SQL Server 2000 in an image field, have it uploaded to the
server, and then stored in the db. I see this done all the time, so I don't
think this part is too hard, but I'm not sure how to get the image into the
db.
2) I want to display the image within a web page, so I would want to pull
the image out of the db, place it on my web server in a certain location,
and then reference the file in the HTML. How do I do that?

I am creating a site and want the users to be able to upload images from their computers either onto the server or into the database using a BLOB field. The question is, which of these is the best. The basic use of the picture (jpg or gif) would be similar to ebay or an Avatar on a forum. Would it be better to store the picture it the database or the link?

I'm trying to improve the way that our press team update images on our homepage. At present the headline link and text is inserted using a submission form that writes to a database. However the accompanying image is inserted by placing the image on a blank web page (headline.asp) and using an include on the homepage to insert it into the appropriate cell next to the headline text.
I would like to add an 'upload image' function to the news submission form that would allow the press team to browse to the image file and insert this into the same location. The upload function would therefore have to automatically send the image to headline.asp.

Other than creating a custom component or purchasing one, isn't there
any other way by which users can upload images/files from their local
machines/hard disks to a remote server? Doesn't ASP have any in-built
component to do so?
If that's indeed the case, can someone suggest any free components
(not trial ones) which can be used to upload images/files from users'
local machines/hard disks to a server?
