Use ASP To Convert Msword To Text?
I have a client that originally wanted me to develop their webapp using PHP and MySql.
It now looks like I have to use ASP/MsSql to do the job.
They need to search for words in ms word documents that are to be uploaded to the server.
In the PHP environment I could use a PHP class to extract the text from the word document and then put the extracted text in a database field to make it searchable (fulltext index etc). All doable from within one PHP script.
I have looked around the web to find some similar to use with ASP but with no luck.
What I want to do is this:
User uploads a .doc document to the web-server.
The ASP script should then be able to extract the text from that word document so I can put the text in a db field to enable fast search for matching documents.
Is this doable from within ASP script?
Is there any third-party solutions available out there?

I am trying to compare a variable with a db plain text field as follows:
access db has field named HFRNUM as text .... ex: 12182003-A
I create a variable in vb as follows:
Dim hfr_today
HFR_Today = (Month(DATE)) & (DAY(DATE)) & (YEAR(DATE)) & "-A"
Unfortuantely, I think the HFR_Today var is not text and when I look for a record that is LIKE or = the var, it returns blank.
I display my variable and see 12182003-A, yet it does not find the record that matches (except data type perhaps?) Is my variable of a different data type, and if so, how can I make it plain text?

I need to get text posted from a webpage to a image. The text needs to be displayed with fonts that I can't use in a webpage. This is to be used submitting textadds from the web, later to be published in a newspaper.
The image it self will not be published, I need it to calculate the price for the add.
There for I need it with the fonts used in the newspaper. Don't now if this is the right group.

I need to modify some code written by someone else that sends out an automated email based on a form submittal. In the form, values are set to 1 or 0 for "yes" or "no". I need to modify it so that the email changes the 1 or 0 to their text equivalents (yes/no).
I CANNOT modify the form itself to change the variables, so i assume i need an IF stmt to that converts the string to text before it sends. Can someone point me in the right direction for how to do this?

Word 2000 from IE6.0.
It's works fine on one computer, but on other IE doesn't recognize type of

I wish to read in the contents of a MS Word document, and then search the text (I am looking for heading styles like Heading 1, Heading 2 etc). From here I wish to construct multi dimensional arrays. i have response.contenttype= "application/msword", i follow that with <!--#include virtual="/slof.rtf" --> and it doesnt work, the other version of this file has a string as long as any i have seen, don't know why, this was working until we moved it off an unstable server. when i navigate in my software it shows the text of the asp file rather than executing the instructions.
basic history, it's a report viewing system (old) that uses vb6 and asp2.0 to generate reports that were written in word, do i need to convert the report to html and then add that to the bottom of my asp file.

I have a problem in that i have a page that works fine and shows all records/Output until i add Response.ContentType=msword
And then i only show every other record.
I probably should have coded the page differently. But for context - it's a school report system and i have setup a Subroutine which queries a database and builds a summary report for a girl. I wanted to print out a class list of these. I.e one for each girl in a class and so i loop around the results of one recordset and within each loop make a new query and create the report. This is probably not the best way to do it.
Anyhow, in the browser it woorks fine. As soon as i add the code to output it to word (or excel ) i lose evry other report.

I am using Response.ContentType = "application/msword" to open the page as a word file (obviously). As an asp page, the page opens great and looks great.
But, when it's opened as application/msword, i get unwanted line breaks after every table as well as table borders and inaccurate table widths that weren't there when the response.contenttype line was commented out.
I'd make it one table but the page is a report that consists of rows and columns... some rows not lining up, hence new table. (it has to be exact).

When using ASP's FileSystemObject to create text files, I am unable to get user submitted text (in Hebrew) to save as anything other than "?????". The text file is being saved in Unicode and setting the CodePage in ASP proved unsuccessful. Strangely, hard coded Hebrew text in an ASP variable does add to the text file correctly.
Any ideas of why this happens and how to get it to work correctly?

I have a client that wants to send an invoice when a user submits a certain form on their site. From this form it goes to an asp page that calculates amounts, and check for a voucher. It then enters data in database and emails invoice.
But they want it send as a pdf attachment. How do i go about doing something like that. Do i convert the htm / asp to pdf. and send it?

I have inherited an ASP application that used MS SQL 7 for a backend DB.The original developer did an excellent job of commenting his work and the applications works fine as is. However, due to licnsing costs,the company is considering moving the application backend to MySQL.
I have looked at the DB structure and it has nothing extreneous other than FOREIGN KEYS. I have heard that MySQL does not support FOREIGN KEYS or Stored procedures.How do I get around the FOREIGN KEY support issue in MySQL?Other than changing my connection strings, if and when I do get the DB end working,do I need to redo the codes?I would like to keep the codes as is and simply redo the interface.In general what should I expect?
The Application was at the initial stages when the company changed course,so they don't mind losing what little data they have in the existing MS SQL 7 db,BUT the table structure must be kept as designed in MS SQL.

I'm in charge of setting up and tracking advertising for my company. Since Google can be set up to automatically mail out a report every day (I also use Overture) I would like to write a program that would automatically grab the .csv file from a specified location, grab the data and convert it to an Access .mdb file.
The idea is I'd like to automate the process of downloading reports from these two sources, transfering them to a database, and mailing the new db file out. I'm not really sure if this is possible or not, since I don't know how to grab a column from a .csv file and convert it into a field in a table.
