View RepliesWhen I use this command in a webpage
Response.Write "<a
href=""javascript:window.open('events/EventDetails.asp?EventID=" &
theEventID & "' )"">" & theLinkText & "</a>"
I get the new window to open but it also affects the "host" window. The "host" window is left with the word "[object]" in it. If I refresh the window that says [object] the new window opens again. Why and how can I make the new window open without affecting the previous one?
I was told that i can change the attribute of a folder to hidden on a windows hosting by using asp. how to do that? Or if there is another way to do that? Bear in mind that i cannot do it through control panel of my hosting.
View Replies View RelatedI'm not very well-versed on developing on NT machines and IIS, but here goes..
I have a script that opens up an odbc connection to a Microsoft Access file (.mdb). This is file, but after I run it, Windows (or something) keeps the mdb file open and I can't reupload it for like, 20 minutes until it finally decides to close it.
I know it's not an asp problem because I've seen this before with Cold Fusion. I also know that it's not isolated to .mdb files because it does the same with a .txt file.
Any ideas? I do have access to the server, so if it requires any configuration changes.
We have a WEB-based application (developed in Visual Studio 2005) running on
handheld devices in Internet Explorer on Windows Mobile 2003. The application
needs to print tickets on a Bluetooth printer, which is accomplished by
preparing a RTF-file on the server and then downloading this file to the
handheld device. We use a third-party application (PrintPocketCE from
FieldSoftware) for the actual printing of the downloaded file. However, when
the file is about to be downloaded we first get a question saying "Download
<filename> to the My Documents folder in Main Memory?" with Yes, Change and
Cancel buttons.
Is there a way to avoid this question and download the file
directly? We need the checkbox "Open file after download" to be checked (as
it is by default when the question is displayed) to get the file processed by
PrintPocketCE after download.
To avoid adding file by file to the handheld device we always use the same
filename for the downloaded file. This leads to another question on each
download, asking whether to overwrite the previously downloaded file. Since
the file has no interest after being printed this question is always answered
with Yes. Is there a way to avoid this question too, for example by setting
some Registry value?
im trying to run a bat file on windows server 2003 and am running into nothing but problems.
i have IIS on my XP workstation that accesses the 2003 server. what im about to explain below works properly on the XP IIs.
i have two files: somefile.asp and somefile.bat. the asp file creates a wscript.shell and then tries to execute the run method for somefile.bat.
however, it isnt working. after an unexaggerated 7 hours of searching google/etc, i have found nothing but frustration and deep, seething anger regarding this problem. Code:
I've a strange problem with Windows Vista, running an ASP page on local
machine (http://localhost/test.asp), the page does not give me any error but
the asp code is not executed (simple code : <% response.write("hello") %),
it show me a blank page, I think I've put all the setttings correctly, but
maybe I must do something obvious to fix that.
I have FrontPage 2003 on my XP laptop. I need to test some web pages with *.asp codes which worked perfectly well with my old Win95 computer in the past. Of course I had to install Personal Web Server to it in order to do the job.
The help files of FP, gives the clue that it has the facilities to behave like a server and test interactive web pages. But I haven't seen the use of ASP pages with it. I do not wish to install a server on my XP just to test ASP pages.
How do you close windows media player in a web page after its played. I have added a windows media player to my web page as:
<object id="Player"
classid="CLSID:6BF52A52-394A-11d3-B153-00C04F79FAA6">
..

After its played I would like it to automatically close.
My website is currently made up of HTML pages and residing on a Windows server.
Currently converting them all to ASP, that is going from .html extensions to .asp (besides adding funking asp functions)
My pages have all being indexed by Google, so wouldn't risk loosing good ranking with Javascript redirects, so I tought using this would solve the issue, for example, on a file named thatpage.html
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" runat="server">
Response.Status="301 Moved Permanently"
Response.AddHeader "Location", "http://www.mywebsite.com/thatpage.asp"
</SCRIPT>
Wherever where I insert it, in the head, in the body, before the DOC, it's not working, will have to resort to javascript? Will I have to put a link in the html page leading to the asp page? Wouldn't like to have user click agin to be led to the .asp version?
The ASP application uses the "File" active-x control. On windows 2003
IIS(6.0), the download the file fails with the Error: Request object error
'ASP 0104 : 80004005'
The above error is retuned by my asp code: lnBytes =
Request.BinaryRead(lnByteCount)
I did not see this error on windows 2000 server. Is there any solution/workaround available on Windows 2003 IIS(6.0) for this issue.
To provide enriched GUI in .NET Windows Forms can replace ASP.NET Web Forms in a Web Application.
To host/activate a Windows Forms control within Internet Explorer (IE):
1. Create a Windows Forms control
2. Create an HTML document with an object tag that identifies the Windows Forms control
3. Configure the virtual directory for proper activation of the control
4. Configure Code Access Permissions
5. Run the control
.NET Redistributable should be present in the client to run this control in IE.
What will be the performance of a page designed in this manner?
An ASP.NET page (using Web Forms) provides a performance of around 3 seconds over a decent internet link. Will the same be achievable using Windows Forms?
No doubt, Windows Forms provide the best performance for Desktop Applications, but what about in a Web Application as explained above?
This approach is similar to Java Applets. And Applets have failed over the web in time critical applications.
I surfed quited a few .NET related sites (MSDN, gotdotnet etc.) for typical numbers on performance for this kind of page design, but in vain.
I'm using formmail.asp which is an emailing utility. Basically, the user
fills out a request page, clicks "Submit" and the page posts to formmail.asp
which emails the user information.
I'm running IIS5 on a Win2k server box and recently ran the Windows Updates
(the last time I do that). Anyway, that emailing form doesn't work now on
any of the sites I host. Any ideas?
I have just uploaded my asp pages online and set permissions to to read write and execute but i am still having trouble, it displays this message. You are not authorized to view this page

We've had a Fasthosts reseller account for quite a few years now and have been relatively happy until now.Unfortunately they've started to push out MySQL DBs (I think 4.2.x or 5)that don't work very well with classic ASP and basically said you can b*$£*"s if it don't work with your apps.
In which case, we do not wish to pander to the FHosts machine anymore and are looking for a new host.Bearing in mind what the Windows based FHosts reseller account can provide, can anybody suggest a better host?
Please note we were stung badly by 2 'from the attic' ISPs before so wedon't want to go down that route anymore.
I need to get visitors ip address and host name when visitor visit my homepage. Can someone please paste an example of an asp page that handel this ?

View Replies View RelatedI recently moved all my files and db to a new host. I cannot get the site to function properly. The site appears to be pointing to an old test template my programmer set up, and not my index page. I have lost my programmer, and I don't know ASP at all.
View Replies View RelatedI haven't ever used ASP on a web host but will most likely be shortly with a members area and was just wondering if someone could answer these questions. Do I have to have the ASP files in a certain file and with the database?
Do I only need to have the asp files or do I need a file like adojavas.inc like if I am using in on my local computer with a web server?
I'm trying to obtain the IP of the hosts connected to my webserver.
Code:
<%

'trying to obtain host IP
ip = request.servervariables("remote_addr")
response.write "IP addr: " & ip & " --- "
ip = request.servervariables("remote_host")
response.write "IP host: " & ip

If I use the above script, it shows me the IP of my ISP webproxy, not mine.
I am writing a website in asp for a take out restaurant. Customers can place order from their website. What I want to do is, print out the order form from the restaurant's printer when an order is placed, so none is required to manually print out the order list. Is it possible and how??
View Replies View RelatedI'm sending emails to a database of 2000 people (that will be double
that in the future). My web-host provides ASPQmail. I have to send the
emails out in groups of only a few hundred at a time to avoid the page
timing out (I have set the timeout value to a very high value). Once in a
while it seems as if either the SMTP server or the web server is running
slowly and I can't get it to send even a few without timeout problems. I
never get the log file showing anything.
Is there a better web-host situation and email/SMTP I should look for?
Do I need a dedicated server? Any suggestions as to how to go about a bulk

which clients received their mailing and which ones didn't.

View Replies View RelatedI have been using the ShellApplication object in an ASP script to
retrieve some file characteristics that the FileSystem object does not
access (this is one of my clients' sites on a commercial host, running
IIS 6.0).
The script ran perfectly for about 6 months, then began returning
"Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01a8' Object required". The code
had not been changed. The script doesn't produce an error on the
creation of the object, but at the first use of it.
The hosting company rebooted the server and it again worked fine, but
then failed again.
The hosting Co's attitude is "you are the only client using this object
and the only client affected by it failing - find a different way to do
what you want to do"
My contention is that they started/stopped doing something that has
caused this to fail and just don't want to be bothered
researching/fixing it (I use the object with no problems on several
other hosts).
Can anyone shed some light? Is there a known problem with the object or
something known to cause it to fail?
I download an application from a 3rd party for a forum that uses Microsoft Access. When I try to log in, I keep getting an error about the database being read only. I go to the hard drive and right click and uncheck "Read Only" but it never works, I've done this on the database file, the directory it is in, the parent directory, the wwwroot directory, the Inetpub directory.
View Replies View RelatedSome of JPG files sitting in the same folder show up OK on an HTML page,
while the other do not as if they are not there or their name is misspelt.
Tried low-upper case in an ASP page, and in the files names - same result
Then I noticed that the same files do not show up in the preview pane in the
Windows Explorer althought they still are described by Windows Explorer as
valid JPEG files.
These "wrong" files are not necessarily bigger then the good ones and in
Microsoft Photo Editor they all (good and bad) show up well and they all are
118 Pixels/cm and True Color (24 bit)
What might be wrong with these files? If there is not direct answer, perhaps spmeone recommend me a correct newsgroup?
How could I perform the task of deleting or renaming file on the server
where I have ISS via ASP page.
When I use a host file entry to point to the host header of the site
that I have created on a Win2k server running IIS5, a cookie is not
created to hold the session id. The result is that Session_OnStart is
run every time a page is requested.
If I set up a DNS entry on the DNS server it all works fine.
I never noticed this problem before we put in Active Directory so it
may have something to do with that.
I have set "allow per session cookies" to promt(under Custom Secrity
settings in IE) to see if this is being attempted and it is not. So
the browser is not even trying to create the session cookie when using
the host file.
