I was almost finished with my program when I noticed I had a big logical error. At the very beginning of my else if statements I would jump down to my else statement.
Java Code:
import java.util.Scanner; public class InternetServiceProviderNew { public static void main(String[] args) { double packageA, packageB, packageC, extraA, extraB, userHours, aHours, bHours, cHours, userCharges; packageA = 9.95; packageB = 13.95; packageC = 19.95; aHours = 10; bHours = 20; String userPackage, A, B, C ;
This is what i have so far, I use BlueJay to write this:
import javax.swing.JOptionPane; public class payroll { String again = y; // private String name; private double rate; private double hours; static double gross; //gross pay
[code]....
my first problem is that it expects a ")" on this line :"if ((hours <=40)rate *1);"For the assignment itself these are the requirements:
-Create a class called payroll with private variables for rate hours and name
-Create static variables for gross pay, union dues, health coverage (hp in my case), FICA taxes, State taxes, Federal taxes, net pay, all must be initialized to 0
-default constructor that assigns default values
a function called calcPay that will do the following tasks and print it to a pay stub :
- function that checks the hours ( if hours are 40 or less pay rate, if over 40 pay 150% of the rate) - calculates gross pay before any deductions (using user inputted hours and rate) - deduct medical coverage and union dues from gross pay and call this adjusted gross pay (also this should have its own line on the paystub) - A function that deducts State, federal and fica taxes from adjusted gross - FICA - 7% for any income -Federal - 2% for $0-$150 / 6% for 150.01 - 300 / 14% for 300.01 - 600 / 18% for 600.01 - unlimited -State - 1% for 0-150/ 3% 150.01 - 300 / 5% 300.01 - 600/ 8% 600.01 - unlimited - amount after all deductions is the net pay ( show this amount on its own line) - Start a loop that asks each time if there are more employees (y/n) y should continue the program and n should end it -dialog boxes should be created to recieve values for name, hours and rate - if the rate is entered below $8 dollars a new box should pop up and ask for a higher value - When there are no more employees, print out a summary of quantities stored in static variable (also had a problem with this) - End
So I think i completed most of these objectives but am having trouble with the syntax and some of the objectives
I cannot see why I am getting an 'Unreachable statement' error on 'return -1;' on line 13126.I am also getting a 'missing return statement' error on the very last line.
/* 12992: */ private int extractInterfaceValues(RSInterface class9, int j) /* 12993: */ { /* 12994:11712 */ if ((class9.valueIndexArray == null) || (j >= class9.valueIndexArray.length)) { /* 12995:11713 */ return -2; /* 12996: */ } /* 12997: */ try /* 12998: */ { /* 12999:11716 */ int[] ai = class9.valueIndexArray[j]; /* 13000:11717 */ int k = 0;
I'm getting errors on all the exceptions called EmptyCollectionException. I think this is because the import statement has a error on it but I'm not sure. I'm suppose to add methods for peek, isEmpty, size, and toString methods. I only started isEmpty also am wondering what I have to change from peek method if anything at all.
import jsjf.exceptions.*;//Error on jsjf import java.util.Arrays; public class ArrayStack<T> implements StackADT <T> { //Error on StackADT private final static int DEFAULT_CAPACITY = 100; private int top; private T[] stack;
My if else statement is not working...it keeps telling me that the else in the statement is a syntax error and that I should remove it. Whats wrong with it?
package Homework2; import java.util.Scanner; public class Homework2 { public static void main(String[] args) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub System.out.println("Welcome to the Triangle Program.");
This method accepts 1 integer, amount (the amount of money). Output the minimum number of in quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies used to make up the amount. For example, an amount of 32 would require 1 quarter, 1 nickel and 2 pennies.
This is the question^
My codes are:
public static int change (int amount) { int quarters = amount / 25 ; int firstresult = amount % 25 ; return quarters ; int nickel = firstresult / 5 ;
[Code] .....
The codes were working when i used System.out.println instead of return, but our teacher required us to use return (functions).
I am Having trouble with my program to validate. It is outputting null into the validation statement then it brings back a run-time error to that validation Statement for the String.
public String validateData () { if (nm == null)nm = "Error! Must enter at least one character"; else nm = name; return name; }//end validation method
Why is this happening, and then once that is completed, why is the validation Sentence in tests Scores not able to validate. I traced it back to out put "Error, a number between 1<100".
public void validateTests () { String testschange; if (test1 < 0 || test1 > 100) { testschange = " You have entered an invalid number, between 1-100. Please restart!"; testschange = Integer.toString( test1 ) ;
I have a problem about this numeric or value error on my java class. Whenever I am calling for the procedure in callable statement it says that error. I don't know what is the problem with my sql code because I;ve tried running it on database alone and it runs perfectly. The results that I need came out fine. But when I'm already calling it in java that error appears. But I tried on finding the line that the said error is coming from and here is the code...
create or replace PROCEDURE RENTING (P_NNAME IN VARCHAR2, P_ADD IN VARCHAR2, P_PHONE IN NUMBER,
I have to take user input and then count how many times each number that the user input and print each one out. For some reason, I can't even get the for loop statement to print and it's pretty much the same as my other program except for the loop which is a little different.
//User inputs numbers between 1 and 100, program counts how many of each integer is and ends with a 0
import java.util.Scanner; public class occurrence { public static void main(String[] args) { //scanner/values Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in); int number = 0; int c = 0; //array count
I am trying to understand the following code.This return statement should actually return the char at myArray[index] first, then increments the index afterwords correct?
I work as a golf staff I would like to create application which would tell me the playing time and the time when players need to reach certain playing field/hole. my ideas is to make a program which would ask the user to input their starting time and than select the hole number, where the end result would be amount of actuall time.
I have been having hard time to figure out howe to properly structure the input conversion so it is recognized as a time (Exampke: 10:15). Do I need to use the calendar method in Java or ?
When addition operation is performed on the character variables ,then it specifies actually that the ASCII values are added because the character variable stores ASCII value of the character constant ,then why after the addition the result cannot be stored inside a character variable ,why it needs to be stored in an integer variable only ,when actually the character variable stores the ASCII value then why is it an error to store the added result in an character variable.
I am trying to build a servlet that does simple addition and subtraction then re displays the result on the same screen. I started the building the servlet I am just not sure I understand how to assign the value from a text area to a variable, so that I can complete the logic its still early stages, but its a simple app so it wont be a very long project(I hope lol). My question is how to assign the value that the user inputs to the text area to a variable that I can use?
My code and compile time errors:
C:UsersReignDesktopHTMLBank.java:89: cannot find symbol symbol : variable Amount location: class HTMLBank if(Amount.equals("")||Amount.equals(null))//||Amount.equals(<0))
import java.util.*; public class SumOfAllEvens { public static void main (String[] args) { Scanner s = new Scanner (System.in); //for (int i=1; i<4; i++){ int usernumber;
[code]....
I'm supposed to use a for loop that runs until it reaches the number input by the user, but I'm not sure how to tell the program to add the user's number along with all of the even numbers in between the user input and 2.
I am trying to learn how to use file input/output in addition to exception handling... The problem is my textbook wrote this chapter for a version of Java that hasn't come out yet, so everything I do "according to the textbook" doesn't work. any feedback on correcting these exception errors because I am not sure what is causing them or how to fix them.
I was able to have it display the name of the book in the Book.txt file, but when I added the second part if the file doesn't exist, that's when the errors came up and it wouldn't compile.
import java.io.*; import java.util.*; public class DisplayBook { public static void main(String[] args) { try { File book = new File("Book.txt"); FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(book);
[Code]...
These are the compilation error messages I am receiving: (I have managed to get it down from 7 errors to just 4, but now I'm stuck)
DisplayBook.java:15: error: unreported exception IOException; must be caught or declared to be thrown while ((letter = in.read()) != -1) //if file exists, displays book title ^ DisplayBook.java:24: error: unreported exception FileNotFoundException; must be caught or declared to be thrown
I need creating a code that will create random addition or subtraction from 0-500 depending on their grade level. I know how to create a random for the math and subtraction. I just dont know how to get it to change depending on their grade level. Example I need it to ask their name, grade level, addition or subtraction then five addition or subtraction questions depending on what they chose.
So from what iv learnt in Java and programming in general is that using a case statement is far more efficient that using multiple IF statements. I have an multiple IF statements contained within a method of my program, and would like to instead use a case statement.
So I want to make a simple Java that ask the user to pick a powers and it has two options.If the user picks magic then execute the first if statement then ask the user again which type of magic the user wants.I can't make it work it keeps printing the else statement. Why is that?
import java.util.Scanner; public class Variable { static Scanner zcan = new Scanner(System.in); public static void main(String[] args)
Got a problem with generics, which I'm still pretty new at. Here's a program that compiles fine:
import java.util.ArrayList; import javax.swing.JComponent; public class Experiments { public static void main(String[] args) { ListHolder holder = new ListHolder();
[Code] ....
It's useless, but it compiles. If I change Line 14, however, to add a generic type parameter to the ListHolder class, Line 10 no longer compiles:
import java.util.ArrayList; import javax.swing.JComponent; public class Experiments { public static void main(String[] args) { ListHolder holder = new ListHolder();
[Code] ....
I get this error:
Uncompilable source code - incompatible types: java.lang.Object cannot be converted to javax.swing.JComponent at experiments.Experiments.main(Experiments.java:10)
Apparently, the introduction of the type parameter leaves the compiler thinking that aList is of type Object. I can cast it, like this:
JComponent c = ((ArrayList<JComponent>)holder.aList).iterator().next();
That makes the compiler happy, but why is it necessary? How does adding the (unused) type parameter to the ListHolder class end up making the compiler think the aList member of an instance of ListHolder is of type Object?
public class SavingsAccount extends Account { private static final double MIN_BALANCE = 100.00; private static final double RATE = 0.035; public SavingsAccount(Customer customer, double bal, String accountNum, Transaction[] trans) { super(customer, bal, accountNum, trans);
[code]....
When I execute this code there is an error in Transaction array initialization. Change the Saving account constructor from (String customer,double balance, String accountnumber,Transaction[] tr) to (String customer,double balance, String accountnumber,Transaction tr)
I have an arraylist, list, that I need to take the size to declare an array, arr3, in another class. Problem 1: the size is giving me an error of "can not make static reference to non-static method getListSize() from the type FindItemInfo". I tried to change getListSize() to static and it gives me and error another place. I try to then fix that, and I get a new error... and so on.
I am using arr3 to store items the user can not afford. I have this next problem even when I input an integer for the arr3 size. I am getting a NullPointerException, and I can't figure out why the arr3[] is not loading. I tried debugging but can not figure out where I went wrong, especially since this code was working in the last assignment before I changed list[] to an arrayList. It always breaks at line 64, but I believe it has to be somewhere in the cashOut() method.
Relevant code is:
public class FindItemInfo implements InterfacePrint{ ArrayList <ItemAttribute> list = new ArrayList<ItemAttribute>(); //does stuff public void printPriority(){ TransactionCalc finish = new TransactionCalc();
