Array Of Scores - Return True If Each Score Is Equal Or Greater Than One Before
Mar 8, 2014
Given an array of scores, return true if each score is equal or greater than the one before. The array will be length 2 or more.
scoresIncreasing({1, 3, 4}) → true
scoresIncreasing({1, 3, 2}) → false
scoresIncreasing({1, 1, 4}) → true
Java Code:
public boolean scoresIncreasing(int[] scores)
{
for (int i = 0; i< scores.length-1; i++) {
if (scores[i] < scores[i+1] || scores[i] == scores [i+1]) {
return true;
} else {
return false;
}
}
return false;
}
Unsure what the problem is, it will always return True for some reason...

Assignment: Given an array of scores sorted in increasing order, return true if the array contains 3 adjacent scores that differ from each other by at most 2, such as with {3, 4, 5} or {3, 5, 5}.
scoresClump({3, 4, 5}) → true
scoresClump({3, 4, 6}) → false
scoresClump({1, 3, 5, 5}) → true
Codingbat AP-1 3rd question
public boolean scoresClump(int[] scores) {
for (int i = 0; i < scores.length; i++) {
int a = scores[i];
int b = scores[i + 1];
int c = scores[i + 2];
if (Math.abs(b-a) + Math.abs (c-b) <=2)
return true;
}
return false;
}
I got it right for some of the input, but not one of them. I tried to use the for loop and if statement on a specific input that I got wrong:
{4, 5, 8}
scores[1] - scores[0] = 1
scores[2] - scores[1] = 3
I suspect it has something to do with the for loop, but I don't see the problem with it. It should work, shouldn't it?
But anyway, here is the error for {4,5,8} :
Exception:java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException : 3 (line number:7)

I have an assignment that wants me to write a Java function based on induction to determine how many numbers in an array have a value greater than, or equal to, 100.
I have started with:
Java Code:
int recurseHundred (int [] A, int n) {
//n is the number of elements in the array.
//Base case:
if (n == 1 && n >= 100) return A[0];
//Recurse
int num = recurseHundred(A, n-1);
if (n-1 >= 100) return A[n-1];
else return num;
} mh_sh_highlight_all('java');
I don't think this actually does the trick.

I am new to Java and would like to ask how to do this question specifically:
Code a Java method that accepts a String array and a String. The method should return true if the string can be found as an element of the array and false otherwise. Test your method by calling it from the main method which supplies its two parameters (no user input required). Use an array initialiser list to initialise the array you pass. Test thoroughly.

i am a french student in France and i am studying informatics . For validating my term at the beginning of January i have a projet in JAVA to do called YAHTZEE. It's a game which i have to code WITHOUT USING AN OBJECTS. I already started the coding, i did all the beginning stuff ( to call the number and the names of players, to roll the 5 dices, i made the code for all the scoring points too(rules) ) but i can't do the table score which updates the new scores after each turn ( 3 turns in total) .

1.Write a JAVA program that will input 10 scores and output the Highest and Lowest score.
2.Write a JAVA program that will input the base and power and display the result: Example: Base is 4 Power is 2 the answer is 16 (Note: Math.pow( ) method is not allowed)
3.Write a JAVA program that will input an integer number, and then will output the sum of all inputted numbers. The program will stop in accepting inputs if the user entered 0.

If this method returns the lowest score, how do I return the 2 lowest scores.
For example If I input 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 this code will return 1.
How do i return the two lowest scores, for example if I input 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, I want to return 1, 2

So, I don't know how to start off this program. I'm not looking for the final answer, but I don't know two things: 1. the objective, 2. what type of thing do I start it off with? A method? I'm pretty sure it's not a class right because it already has a class?
public class WebFarm
{
private ArrayList<Server> servers;
/* constructors and other methods and instance variables not shown */
}
public class Server
[Code] ....
the Instructions:
The ping() method of the Server class returns true if the server is currently functioning normally; otherwise it returns false. Write a definition for the needsAttention() method of WebFarm that returns an ArrayList containing the servers that are not functioning normally:
public ArrayList<Server> needsAttention()
{
//I can put code here
}

I have an 46x9 array. I only have 108 values in the array for which I need to perform preliminary computations. How do I get the read to only read the 108 values whose values are greater than 0 and skip the other 495 whose values are 0?

I am using Eclipse programming for android. I have a game working fine but looking to add a little flare to it. Currently more scoring system just displays the current sore so if your score is 3,000 and you score 300 more it just changes to 3,300.
My question is how can I get the score to count from 3,000 to 3,300 really fast giving it the arcade feel of your score counting up? I tried timers with delays but it gets slowed down and buggy.

I am working on an assignment covering exception handling and am stuck on part of the assignment. How can you test for array length = 0?
When I try something like: if (array.length == 0) on a null array, naturally I get a NullPointerException. I would try something like if (array != null) but both array length of 0 and null array are supposed to throw different expressions.

I need comparing two array lists. For this program i am comparing 2 array lists. The list is integers entered by the user the second is random generated numbers. So far in my program i am able to compare the 2 arrays together and output if they are equal or not however i need the program to output even if atleast one if the integers match,
EXAMPLE list one: 1, 2 ,3 ,4, 5. LIST TWO: 1, 3, 3, 3, 3.
Since the first number matches i want it to out put there is one match, so on and so forth with if there are 3 or 4 matching integers. here is my code so far.
public static void main(String[] args)
{
final int NbrsEntered = 5; //Number of guessed numbers entered
final int LOTTOnbr = 5;
int[] numbers = new int[NbrsEntered];
int[] randomNum = new int[LOTTOnbr];
//int[] TestArrayOne = { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 };
//int[] TestArrayTwo = { 1, 2, 3, 3, 5 };
boolean arraysEqual = true;
int index = 0;

I'm trying to write a program that asks a user how many high scores they want on a table, then the users types the inital highscores and is repeatedly asked to place more high scores on the table, which if larger than any existing high score, will take its place and shift the other scores down.
Although for the shifting and inserting of that next score the code just doesnt seem to be working, the insertScore function is where im getting the main exception, and im not sure why?

I am trying to print a loop inside an array of a greater size than the loop itself. Like for example I have an array of size 7 but it has only 3 elements.
int[] array=new int[7]
array[0]=2;
array[1]=3;
array[2]=4;
now what I want to do is print these three numbers in a loop so that my array[3]=2;array[4]=3;array[5]=4 ...... till the last one. Also the array could be any size and not just 7.

I am creating a program called "Mad Math Machine". This program is to generate random arithmetic questions, with integers ranging from -12 to 12, for the user to answer. The user has three lives. Once they get more than three questions wrong, they run out of lives, and their "score" (the number of questions they answered correctly) is taken.
I have the large chunk of the program (the arithmetic questions and answers) completed. The only part I am stuck on is the scoring system. I believe that arrays would be useful for this task, but I have little idea of where to start. Here is what the scoring list should be able to do:
- It should print out the top ten recent players and their scores.
- A separate list should show the top-two highest scores of all time.
*I didn't think it was relevant, but I can include the program code. Up until this point, I have created methods to keep track of the score, but I have simply left them commented out so I could build the rest of the program.*

Create an equals method that takes an object reference and returns true if the given object equals this object.
Hint: You'll need 'instanceof' and cast to a (Geocache)
So far I have:
public boolean equals(Object O){
if(O instanceof Geocache){
Geocache j=(Geocache) O;
if (this.equals(j)) //I know this is wrong... but I can't figure it out
return true;
}
else return false;
}
I think I have it correct up to the casting but I don't understand what I'm suppose to do with the this.equals(). Also I'm getting an error that I'm not returning a boolean... I get this all the time in other problems. I don't get why since I have to instances of returning booleans in this. "returns true if the given object equals this object" makes no sense to me. I assume the given object, in my case, is 'O'. What is 'this' object referring to?

I want to use a method, which takes for example an int and also returns an integer. For example, if the the given integer is strong return a, if it is notstrong return b. How would you write that in a Code?
I want to use that in a more general way. I want to give a method mlong the value X of the type date and let it return an int. Type date consists of 3 int, one of them is the int month.
mlong should return an int depending on the X.moth. at the moment my code looks like this:
// File1:
public class date {
public int day;
public int month;
public int year;
}
// File 2:
public class monthlength {
public int mlong(date X) {
int t;
t = X.month;
if (t == 1 || t == 3 || t == 5 || t == 7 || t == 8 || t == 10 || t == 12)
{ return 31; }
if(t == 4 || t == 6 || t == 9 || t == 11)
{return 30;}
}
}
