Using For Loop To Populate Array With Random Double Values

Oct 26, 2014

Write a program that creates an array that can hold 9 double values that represent baseball batting averages for a starting baseball lineup. Use a for loop to populate array with random double values in the range of 0.00 to 0.500. Recall that "double" values are what Java calls "real" numbers. Use a second for loop to print the values in the array with one number per line. Finally, use a third for loop to traverse the array and find and print the maximum batting average in the array. Note: you will need to use String.format to control the precision of a double number when you print it- Here is my code so far:

public class P2F {
public static void main (String[] args) {
double [] player= new double [9];
//player[0]= Math.random();
for (int index=0; index < player.length; index++) {
....

When I open the terminal window I get different variations of this [D@4545c5]. I would like to know all the things I am doing wrong.

Declare Array Of 50 Elements Of Type Double - Print Output 10 Elements Per Line

Feb 5, 2015

import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.Arrays;
import java.util.List;
public class array
{
public static void main(String[] args)
...

Is there a way to write this, where, alpha is one array.

Write a program that declares an array "alpha" of 50 elements of type "double". Initialize the array so that the first 25 elements are equal to the square of the index variable and the last 25 elements are equal to three times the index variable. Output the array so that 10 elements per line are printed.

If I have an array of 50 integers, can I break that to read in lines of 10?

Conversion From Double To Int?

Percentage Of A Double

double Full=40.50;
double discount=.07;
double FullDiscount= 37.67;
double CompactDiscount= 28.37; mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

My question is how do I configure this so that when / if I need to change the discount value, it automatically adjusts the % discount off of the Full or Compact?

All I can get to work is simply hardcoding it and assigning the discount value, i'm probably just messing up the syntax.

Cannot Convert From String To Double

//Students Full Name

"first name.");
lastName = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter student " +
"last name.");
// Get test grade (numbers)
test1 = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter test1 grade");

The line in bold is where that error comes up. I know it something simple but I can't remember. I declared both firstName and lastName as Strings and then the test1 I declared as double. I had a similar error in a previous assignment where I had a integer(age) input and then i had an output statement asking for a name all I needed to do was put keyboard.nextLine(); after my age input and I was fine.

Conversion Char To Double Value

Mar 31, 2015

I need to understand the java Conversion.

I have a char[] containing ASCII characters that need to be converted into int value and double value.

The int value are always stored in 1 char size like 'j'. I extracted it succesffully by converting the char in a ascii bytearray and then used: Integer.parseInt(sb.toString().replace("0x", ""), 16);

How can I get the Value as double when i used the char[] with size 2 or 4 ?

Example : final char[] charValue = { 'u', ' ', '}','+' }; what is the associate Double value ?

Example : final char[] charValue = { 'T', ' ' }; what is the associate Double value ?

Example : final char[] charValue = { 'T', ' ' }; what is the associate int value ?

Sorting 10 Double Arrays

I can get the 10 numbers inputted, but the output is ten 0.0s; now (and this how I know I am learning some things) I'm fairly certain that the variable number is not storing the numbers inputted by the user otherwise I wild be seeing the program work correctly.

So my question is why isn't number storing the inputs?

Double-clicking Jar Files?

Nov 10, 2009

I've been programming for a while, but I never made executables... just ran it from the compiler. Now, however, I really want to have an icon for one of my programs that would be conveniently located and clickable. So, I made a jar file, both in Eclipse and BlueJ. When I run this file in command line, it works fine (with "java -jar ..."). In case of Eclipse, this worked with both "jar" and "Executable jar" options. However, when I double click the icon, nothing happens. First I was getting "can't find main class" error, but that was an easy fix with the manifest file. But now, nothing seems to happen at all. Could this be because the program is supposed to run in the command line or whatever the compiler offers and there is nothing to force the computer to open one of those windows?

public static void main (String args[]) {
Scanner read = new Scanner (System.in);
out.print ("> ");
double num = read.nextDouble();

I used to use an online compiler and the nextDouble() method worked perfectly there.

Testing Double Null

May 2, 2014

how to execute a particular class. I've created a Kinematics class that will execute and calculate all the functions pertaining to kinematic equations. In the main class, I will have the user provide the data in JTextField. Now I need to test which JTextfields (variables) were left empty. I plan to use a number of if/else statements :

if(distanceI != null && distanceF != null)

The problem with this is that these variables are double and therefore cannot be tested as null. I read a few things about Double but I really don't see how I'm supposed convert each double variable to Double, is that even possible?

double distanceI, distanceF, velocityI, velocityF,
velocityAverage, acceleration;

Swing/AWT/SWT :: How To Get Double Value Into JTable Cell

May 29, 2014

My latest issue was that I wanted to only get a double value into a JTable Cell.

So first I Overrode the getCellEditor(int row,int col) method of my JTable, so if I was in a cell i knew I needed a double value I returned my Editor.

My editor filters out anything but numbers. I also check to make sure we get one and only one decimal point.

Other solutions Ive seen use keyboard Listeners, but to me that doesn't work. What if the user cuts and pastes data? My solution handles that as well.

It doesn't handle if they try to cut and paste something like 1234abcd.bob.123.23 , this would result in 1234..123.23 pasted in. I'll handle faulty values on the getValue method of my AbstractTable, but as long as the user is using mostly valid data this works well.

public TableCellEditor getCellEditor(int row, int col) {
if (row==TheRowWant && col==TheColumnI want) {
return (new DefaultCellEditor(createDoubleTextField()));
}
}
private JTextField createDoubleTextField() {
final JTextField field = new JTextField();

Using Double Dimensions Strings And Methods

Apr 17, 2015

i have to use a if loop. I just started using methods and loops..You have been hired as a software developer for Canada’s customs - Toronto Pearson International Airport. Your job is to develop part of the Canada Passport System. The Database Administrator has forwarded to you the database for all the Canadians. For simplicity, assume you only have five records (i.e., only five people on file). These fixed records are the following:

First name, Last name, SIN, Last Date of Entry to Canada, Number of Entries
Mike beee 4567 12-12-1999 7
Jessie weree 4444 07-07-2007 1
Liza veee 2121 05-05-2013 2
Zico qeeee 2444 Never left the country 0

the two dimensional array stores all the values. In addition, all these values should be of type String.The Canadian officer can always see the following four choices:

1) Show custom’s database,
2)Update custom’s database,
3) A summary of a passenger’s record, and
4) Exit.

Choice 1 : always allows the officer to see all the database records (i.e., the five records). Each of these records consists of the following: First Name, Last Name, SIN, Last Date of Entry to Canada, and the Number of Entries (i.e., see the above stored values).

Choice 2 : allows the officer to update the database whenever one of the five Canadian passengers arrives. Once the officer chooses this option, the system will ask him/her for the SIN of the passenger. Then the system will ask for today’s date (i.e., the recent entry date). The system will then reflect those changes on the console screen and the number of entries will be increased by one.

Choice 3: summarizes the record for one passenger where his/her first and last names and last date of entry to Canada will be shown. The last date of entry should only have the last four digits (i.e., only the year). To extract those digits, you should use the String’s method(s). However,before a record is summarized, the records of all Canadians should be shown on the screen in order to allow the officer to choose among those records. Choice 4 allows the officer to exit from the system completely; otherwise the list of choices should be always shown on his/her monitor.This is the code i have so far.

import java.util.Scanner;
public class QuestionFive{
public static void main(String[] args) {

double passportInput;
Scanner sc = new Scanner(System.in);
// public static int generalList() // to show the list of choices and return the chosen option
//
// public static void updateRecords(int recordSize, String[][] passportDataBase) //to update the records
//
