Java String IndexOf Parsing

Dec 24, 2014

In the code below I am splitting the String relativeDN at the "," character. After splitting the String I need to parse the string from the "=" character using indexof and then rebuild the string. I was able to parse the first = sign then rebuild the string but it doesn't remove the subsequent = character. I am trying to parse the string using idexof for all the "=" characters and then rebuild it using StringBuilder.

public class StringTestProgram {
public static void main(String[] args) {
  String relativeDN = "cn=abc,dn=xyz,ou=abc/def";
  //Split String
  String[] stringData = relativeDN.split(",");

Efficient XML Parsing For Count Using Java Hashmap?

Aug 20, 2014

I am kind of new to Java. I have a query.. look at it. Have an xml like

<ProductList>
<Product Quality='Good' color='Blue'>
<Details ItemID='1001'/>
</Product>
...
..
</ProductList>

The <Product> tags can run into hundreds or thousands. Quality can have values like Good, Bad, Damaged. Color can also have various values (Blue, Red ..)

ItemID can repeat or can be different. So I want group by ItemID->Color->Good count or BadCount and TotalCount as below.

I want to get a sum like

<ProductList>
<ProductType ItemID="1001">
<Product_Detail CountGood="1" CountBad="2" CountTotal="3" Type="Blue"/>
</ProductType>
...
...
</ProductList>

I think using Hashmaps (Hashmap1 for ItemID, Hashmap2 for color, Hashmap3 for quality) may do the work. But I have to parse the xml number of ItemID's multiply-by number of colors multiply by various colors times for this.

Any better algorithm is there in performance perspective using Java.

Tiled Based Map Game In Java

May 10, 2014

I'm trying to create a tile based map JPanel but all I get is a white screen. I'm fairly new to the Java Swing and AWT package so I've been watching tutorials on YouTube so learn as much as I can.

I've got three classes: Window.java which includes the Main method, Panel.java which is the JPanel and Tile.java to draw all the images into an array.

Window.java:

import javax.swing.JFrame;
public class Window extends JFrame {
public Window() {
setTitle("Project");
setSize(500, 400);

[Code] .....

I've checked through everything and still cannot find what I'm doing wrong. I did try different codes but I just got errors instead.

Making A Window For Java Text Based Game

So, Iv'e been trying to make a simple Text Based RPG with Java, and it is going quite well, and my friends want to play it too but they aren't very tech savvy, so it's hard to tell them to get an IDE or use the CMD, so I wanted to know if there was a way to make my text-based game into a window, like using JFrame or something. All i need is a window that displays the text, and a bar on the bottom that lets the user input what they want (Kind of like a CMD).

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Running Application Using Java 1.6 And Windows-based X Server

Apr 15, 2011

At our company we run a third-party Java-based GUI application on one of our Linux server machine, displaying the application to our local Windows work stations using the Cygwin X Server.We noticed a few problems with a new version of this application and was able to narrow it down to the following conditions:

1. Java Swing application running on a UNIX host;
2. Java used is 1.6 (problem not noticed when using Java 1.5)
3. Displaying to Cygwin X server (I've heard other windows-based X servers have the same issue, but I don't have access to any others at this time).

If we run the application natively on Windows, I'm told if the application runs on the Linux host and displays natively to that machine's display there are no problems (although I'm not able to verify this myself).The problems are:

1. Any new frame/dialog is opened in the geographic center of the dual displays, rather than in the middle of one or the other;
2. Any attempt to drag the window to a different location on the display seems to work, but as soon as you let go of the drag, the window snaps back to the original location. This only happens the first time you try to move each window.
3. Drop-down controls (JComboBox, for example) just close back up as soon as you click on them. If you click and drag the mouse to attempt to make a selection, no selection can be made.

Are these known problems using 1.6 on UNIX displaying to Windows-based X Servers?

The only real problem is number 3. I expect that if I put more work into the window placement, I should be able to get past number 1. Number 2 is just a minor annoyance.The following is a simple Java Swing application which when run in the correct environment will exhibit the problems.

import java.awt.EventQueue;
import java.awt.GridBagConstraints;
import java.awt.GridBagLayout;
import java.awt.Insets;
import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
import java.awt.event.ActionListener;

I have the source code used on jurassicsystems.com. I would absolutely kill to have a tweaked version of this system act as my password entry screen. It is literally something Ive wanted to have done for ages, and this emulation finally means it may be possible.

Can Use Java Code From OpenScript Or APIs In Separate Java Program?

Oct 24, 2014

I want to develop a Java program that uses OpenScript APIs to test my applications. The OpenScript framework automatically creates the Java Code so I was thinking of either using this code or create my own using the APIs.

I tried both options using NetBeans but I'm getting errors everywhere starting with the library import. I'm pretty new to Java so I'm sure I'm missing a lot of things here. I pasted the code below from the OpenScript framework that want to use in a stand-alone file for your reference.,

Parsing A Value From A String

I'm simulating temp/humidity values and want to separate the string value reported and parse each part (left and right) for their respective values. However, I'm having trouble figuring out how to parse the right hand side of this string value, I can get the left using split (shown below), but I think split removes the right hand side of the string value.

the value reads "Temp=22.9*C Humidity=50.9%"
Java Code: private Double parseTemperatureFromString(String consoleOutput) {
String[] tempHumidParts=consoleOutput.split(" ");
String[] tempPart=tempHumidParts[0].split("=");
String theTemp=tempPart[1];
theTemp=theTemp.replace("*C","");

ArrayList - CSV File Parsing

Nov 18, 2014

I have to read this CSV file into an arraylist. Arraylist i call weight. The data in the csv file has 200 double values which is the weight of all the 200 bananas. Since the csv file is a string i guess I cannot create an double arraylist from scratch, but i have to parse the csv file afterwards, right? Well this does not work and ill show you the code in a bit, just need to state all my issues.

My second issue is how to be able to print out the the weight items (in this case bananas) next to the weight of the bananas taken from the array? This has to be done by constructor i assume? I just dont know how constructors work with arraylists.

Id like it to look something like this in the output window.

Banana 34,55
Banana 43,55
Banana 23,74

and so on (200 times)

so these are my issues, how to parse and how to print the arraylist weights and the item banana in the output window with constructor. Here is the code.

package Main;
import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.FileReader;
import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.Serializable;
import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
