Calculate And Store Value Into String The User Selected And Keeping It Going
Oct 28, 2014
This is the first time we are using 2 different classes. This is the code I have so far. What I am having trouble is doing the calculations and storing the value into the planet the user selected and keeping it going. I will attach the instructions ....
public class FakeGravity{
// Instance variables
private String planet;
private int VelocityDecay;
private double BouncinessFactor;
// default constructor
public FakeGravity(){

I am trying to split a string into a String[] tokens array to declare variables for an object; however, I'm having an issue getting the string to tokenize correctly. Here's an example of the input:
a : 100 : John Smith : 20 Main St.
a : 101 : Mary Jones : 32 Brook Rd.
Here is the basic code I have now, to properly sort each line of text, etc. (without the split() method):
Java Code:
while (scanner.hasNextLine()) {
currentLine = scanner.nextLine();
lineScan = new Scanner(currentLine);
if (currentLine.startsWith("/") || currentLine.trim().isEmpty())
continue;
[Code] ....
I was able to eliminate the comments and identifiers from the text by trimming the first two characters of the string. For the split, I tried String[] tempArray = currentLine.split("s+"); however, that also took the spaces out of the addresses and names...so the results looked like this:
100
John
Smith
20
Main
St.
As you can see, it splits via space regardless, including where I replaced all the :'s with spaces. Is there any way to do this?

I was wondering how can I calculate total age in months and store it as variable? this is what I have so far:
*
* You will ask the user to provide their name (as a single word, assume first name here)
* You will ask the user their age in full years (no fraction or months)
* You will ask the user how many full months since their last birthday (again, whole numbers here).
*
* You will use this information to calculate the user's age in months and use that information to print out a greeting.

I just learned about 2D arrays and am still trying to get a grasp on the concepts. I'm a little confused by how you return all the values in a row to add up and display the sum if the row is entered by the user.
import java.util.*;
public class RowSum {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner s = new Scanner (System.in);
int userpick = 0;
int sum = 0;

How can I do the work below in Java
In this main class, create 5 objects of the class Menu, as defined in the table below.
Name amount of calories cooking time price per person number of drinks
Fufu and Groundnut Soup 564.65 2515.572
Red Red 345 12 9.980
Rice and Beef Stew 560.4 1512.651
Ga Kenkey and Fish 780 10 10.15 1
Banku and Tilapia 450.4 35 25.17 2
Exercise d
In your main class create an array of length 5, and store the 5 objects (Exercise c) into the array. You can use any name for your array.
From the array, use a loop to: Print the details of all the objects using the method you defined in Exercise b.
Exercise e
Use another loop to:
-Print only the name and cooking time of all the dishes that take less than 30 minutes to cook. Hint: you may use the getter methods for the name and cooking time attributes, and then, print these values (name, cooking time).
Exercise f
Use another loop to :
-Calculate and print the total price of all the objects (in the array).
-Calculate the total price of all the objects with VAT included for each dish (VAT rate is 17.5%).
Submission
-Create a folder with your index number as its name.
-Copy your Java Project folder into the created folder.
-Print a hard copy of your classes.
-Submit both soft copy and hard copy of your project

I'm playing with vectors for the first time... What I'm trying to do is to allow a user to input one or more integers and store them in a vector for manipulation later on in the program... Here's the portion of the program I'm working with:
Java Code:
package com.itse2317;
import java.util.*;
public class VectorTest
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
[code]...
My question is this: Is there any way to move from inputting integers to printing them, without entering a non-integer (for example, hitting enter)? I looked at the API for the Vector class, and either I'm not thinking about the problem the right way to be able to find an answer, or it's just not there.

Write a Java program that asks the user to store 10 numbers in an array. You should then print the array in the order entered and then print in reverse order. However, instead of putting all the information in the main, you should use a class called PrintIt. The PrintIt class should have an instance variable that is an array to hold the numbers. You should have a method that will print the array in the order entered. You will also need a method to print in reverse oder. Then create a tester class that asks the user to enter 10 numbers and puts them in an array.
So far I've got this.
public class printIt {
int i;
int [] numArr = new int [10];
public printIt () {
i = -1;
[Code] .....
Output:
Enter a number:
8
34
Forward:
8
34
Reverse:
34
8
end
what i want as an number is being able to print out 10 numbers but this only lets me do two numbers. Why is that so?

I'm supposed to take an input from the user and calculate the value of pi using this formula: 1/1 - 1/3 + 1/5 - 1/7 etc... so on alternating between minus and plus and denominator increasing by 2 every time. If the user inputs the number 3, then it should print (1/1 - 1/3 + 1/5 - 1/7 + 1/9) *4. The idea here is that the higher the input of the user is, the higher the equation will be close to pi.
This is what i have so far :
import java.util.Scanner;
public class Pi
{
public static void main(String[] args) {
double first = 1/1;
double second = 1/3;
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.println("Enter a Number to calculate how far you want the formula to perform: ");
double count = input.nextDouble();
}
}
This is literally all i have, i know i need a while loop and an if loop.

I have to create a program that calculates the nth Fibonacci number and returns that to the user. Fibonacci said his number sequence would describe the ideal breeding patterns of immortal rabbits. So, you are going to make this vision a reality.
First, take in a numeric value from the user and calculate that value in the fibonacci series. Next, find an image of a rabbit and display the image on a GUI (put the image as an icon on a label!) the number of times returned by the algorithm (Put all the aforementioned labels on one panel with FlowLayout!).
You need to remove the old images from the Panel. Probably the easiest way to do this is to create a whole new panel and remove the old one (hint: the remove method of JPanel should come in handy)
You could use an array of JLabels
You will need to create a new JLabel and add each member of the array to the panel
I should be able to scroll to see any images that are off screen
I am having difficultly on to making the array list for JLabel, and getting the Fibonacci sequence to show the pictures of rabbits. Below is my current code.
import java.awt.FlowLayout;
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;

Question: 1. Declare and implement a class named Substrings. The class will contain the following data members and methods:
Data members:
string S
Methods:
setS() take a string as a parameter and store it in S
printSub1(), printSub2(), printSub3(), printSub4() print all substrings of S. If S = "abcd",
printSub1() will print "a", "ab", "abc", "abcd", "b", "bc", "bcd", "c", "cd", "d",
printSub2() will print "abcd", "bcd", "cd", "d", "abc", "bc", "c", "ab", "b", "a",
printSub3() will print "a", "b", "c", "d", "ab", "bc", "cd", "abc", "bcd", "abcd", and
printSub4() will print "abcd", "abc", "bcd", "ab", "bc", "cd", "a", "b", "c", "d".
Alright so after doing some googling and watching tutorials I managed to put together the first two but I still don't exactly understand how nested for loops work, however just a single loop I do understand.
Secondly, the 3rd and 4th prints are completely destroying my brain using for loops, which we are supposed to use. Check out my code below, also keep in mind the 3rd is giving errors and the 4th i had to revert back to the same as the first print temporarily because my code because so messed up. How to understand nested for loops better.
[code=Java]
import java.util.Scanner;
class subString {
String S;
void setSubstring(String SS) {
S = SS;
[Code] .....
Compiling: error for myS.printSub3 and myS.printSub4 is the same as 1 because i had to revert it after ruining the code.

I have a college question ask me to write a class StringRevert which does the following:
-prompting user for an interger n
-creating an array of n string
-repeatedly read character string from user input and store them in the array until end of array is reached or user input -quit(quit should not saved in array)
-print the string from array in reverse order, from last enter to first enter.
-assume user always supplie correct input
This is what I've done so far but how to get it working.
import java.util.Scanner;
public class StringRevert {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.println("enter value of n: ");
int n1 = in.nextInt();

User input: I have a 91
Output: 10
I cant seem to find a way scan through the string to find the integers and add them.
String x1=input.next();
char digit= x1.charAt(3);}

Length of your string: 44
Length of your substring: 6

Here are my conditions: You are developing a program to keep track of team standings in a league. When a game is played, the winning team (the team with the higher score) gets 2 points and the losing team gets no points. If there is a tie, both teams get 1 point. The order of the standings must be adjusted whenever the results of a game between two teams are reported. The following class records the results of one game.
public class GameResult
{
public String homeTeam() // name of home team
{ /* code not shown */ }
public String awayTeam() // name of away team
[Code] ....
The class TeamStandings stores information on the team standings. A partial declaration is shown below.
public class TeamStandings
{
TeamInfo[] standings; // maintained in decreasing order by points,
// teams with equal points can be in any order
public void recordGameResult(GameResult result)
[Code] ....
And here is the actual question:
Write the method adjust. The method adjust should increment the team points for the team found at the index position in standings by the amount given by the parameter points. In addition, the position of the team found at index in standings should be changed to maintain standings in decreasing order by points; teams for which points are equal can appear in any order.
And here is what I have so far:
private void adjust(int index, int points)
{
int Score[] = new int[standings.length]
for ( int i=0; i <= standings.length; i++)
{
Score[i] = index, points;
}
}
