Checking If File Exist - If Returned True Then Check Said File For ID
Sep 25, 2014
If I'm checking using an if statement if a file exists like so:
public boolean export(String envName,String fromFile,String toFile) {
Vector<String> vector = new Vector<String>();
File file = new File(fromFile);
if(file.exists() && file !=null) {
return true;
}
return false;
If it returns true for existing then how would I do another if statement that would say if file returned true then check said file for an id. If Id exists extract all data associated with that id and store in Vector object. Would it be like this:
if(file==true)
{
//enter rest of code
}

I am kind of new to programming in java and I am trying to run a first time setup type of thing for my program so I am saving the settings to a file. If the file doesn't exist I want it to run the first time setup but if the file does exist I want it to skip that process. My problem is that .exists() says reads true whether the file is there or is not there.
public static void main(String[] args)throws IOException{
new Window(); //Runs the Window()
PrintWriter writer = new PrintWriter(path);
boolean bool = new File("path.txt").exists();
System.out.println(bool);
if(!new File("path.txt").exists()){

I need to check an existence of a file if it is already created or not but the problem is on my code I obviously making the file first before I am able to check if it exist or not.
File createFile = new File ("//path/name.txt");
I've read somewhere that that line should not make a file without the createFile.createNewFile(); but when I tested it and on my program, my program was creating the file even without the .createNewFile() method with that said. I'm confused on how would I be able to check an existence of a file without of course having it pre-created. here is the partial code:
File newFile = new File ("C:/Documents and Settings/Admin/Desktop/Keys.txt");
BufferedWriter write = new BufferedWriter (new FileWriter (newFile));
BufferedReader read = new BufferedReader (new FileReader (newFile));
if (newFile.exist())
{
System.out.print("File is existing");
}

The code for my button is below - I know it is wrong and that I need to change line 8 at least,so I am technically asking the property object if there is a key_name there but I dont quite get how to do that
//code for button
JButton btnSearch = new JButton("Search");
btnSearch.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
//find selected command
String key_name = textFieldSearch.getText();
[Code] ....
I basically just want the user typed in word to be checked against a keyword in a properties file and if it exists, pull the key and the value back into a panel

I have a program that allows the user to select what type (i.e. tif, jpg, sid) of file they have to load. I use a JCombo box for the selection type. I send this JCombo box string to my ElevationConvert class. What I want to do is check to see if that extension the user selected exists prior to converting it. If the file extension does not exist, I want to pop up a window (JOptionPane) stating is does not exit. I have tried suggestions found on this site, but does not seem to work for my application. The program works with (Process cN = Runtime), if I try not to check for the extension. But when I add the check for (If, else), it bombs. This executable runs in the main folder. The file extensions are in a subfolder called Ned.

I have some problem to understand the way to make this:
In my main class a user can save his name in a txt file (and the system initially will add 6 value equals to 0) than he can choose between 6 level and make it.
example of .txt file data:
mario 0 0 0 0 0 0
carl 0 0 0 0 0 0
AT THIS MOMENT i just made other class and they work, is this new one that is hard for me. I'm trying to make a class that:
1- (first method called verificaRisultati) take name_used and level_choosed from the main and go to check in the .txt file if that level before was done right(1) or wrong(0)
and return something like "before you made this level properly" or "before you made this level incorrectly" AND THEN let the user start with the level.
2- (second method called salvaRisultati) at the end of the level i wanna pass the result (correct/incorrect) to another method of this class that will save the value (1 or 0) associated to the user in the right position.
This is the class that i'm writing:
Java Code:
import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.FileNotFoundException;
import java.io.FileReader;
public class ResultUsers {
[Code] ....
I really need some hint and some code example because I'm stuck. How I can take exactly the line with the user name? How I can correctly split the line in an array and then read/modify the value for that level?

This program should display the sum, average, product, smallest and largest of the numbers.
Java Code:
//Displays the sum, average, product, smallest and largest of the numbers
import java.util.Scanner;
public class Practice6 {
public static void main( String[] args) {
Scanner sc = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.print("Enter an integer: ");
[Code] ....
The problem is when I enter
The first integer: 7
The second integer: 5
The third integer: 9
The program displays "The third integer is the largest and the second integer is the smallest" then displays "The first integer is the largest and the second integer is the smallest". The main method returned to the IF statement in the line 23. How or why?

import java.util.Scanner;
public class Hangman {

The Compiler gives me this only error:
Hangman.java:39: error: unexpected type
displayWord.charAt(i)=userInput.charAt(0);

I understand that charAt returns i as a value and not a variable. What do I use to return a variable as I intended?

Okay i have done some research and have found that when using the JOptionPane, when the cancel or x button is clicked, the value is returned as null for the particular JOptionPane. It does not seem to work when I try to code it though, I have tried the following:
Java Code:
public static int getBoardType()
{
int boardType = 0;
String boardInput;
boardInput = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null,
"Enter 1 (LongBoard), 2 (Shortboard), or 3 (BoogieBoard)." ,
"Dwelling Type",
JOptionPane.QUESTION_MESSAGE);
[Code] ....
If the "X" button or the Cancel button does in fact return a null value, why is the way I have this set up not working?

I have observed a strange behaviour from Resultset object. My application fetches 400 records from a table and processes these records every 10secs. By default the resultset has a fetchsize of 10 from the database cursor. As I understand if the query returns 400records, the resultset will fetch 40times, in multiple of 10 to get all these 400 records from database cursor.
Query : SELECT * FROM ( SELECT * FROM TestTable
WHERE STATE_ACTION = 0 ORDER BY ROP_TIME DESC )
WHERE ROWNUM <= 250
Observation : Under a normal operation, the resultset fetches all the 400 records on query execution from database cursor, but under unknown conditions the same resultset object fetches only 10 records from the database cursor and exits. Please refer page 297 in document below for the result fetch size details. JDBC developer guide for oracle 10g : [URL] .... This condition self-heals itself in few hours or restarting the database or restarting the server. The root cause of this behavior is unknown.

I am creating a web application that runs on server X(unix) and it has another unix system mounted on it. I want to generate the file tree structure of this mounted unix file system and show it on to a web application so that users can select a file and move it onto this current unix machine.
I know this sounds stupid and you may want to say why cant we directly copy the file, I am doing a proof of concept and using this as a basis.

I am working on a project that requires me to build a database with random access file, representing products, the base product contains a name (about 30 characters), a price (double), and a quantity (integer). I have worked on this project for probably 15+ hours and have tried so many things and feel like I've barley made any progress...
The part i am really struggling with is taking the data from the text file and creating an object array with it using the product class. Once ive accomplished that, i have to use that data to create a random access file with the data.
Here is the base Product class that must be used to create the objects for the array.
public class Product
{
public String pName;
public String stringName;
public double price;
public int quanity;
[Code] .....
And then here is the data from the text file that i must extract to use to create product objects.
Dill Seed,938,34
Mustard Seed,100,64
Coriander Powder,924,18
Turmeric,836,80
Cinnamon (Ground Korintje),951,10
Cinnamon (Ground) Xtra Hi Oil (2x),614,31
Cinnamon (Ground) High Oil (1X),682,19
These continue for about 40-50 entries, they are not separated by a blank line though i had to add those so it would display correctly, each entry is on its own line with name separated with spaces, then price after a comma, then quantity after the second comma.....

New to programming. Am supposed to create a program that reads a text file (of integers) and computes a series of computations on these integers. I don't have the code for the integers in my code yet, (i know how to do those), but am struggling getting the array to simply print in the print writer. I have the user select a text file, read the file with a scanner, and then save the computations done from my code into another file. specifically, the problem is as follows: Write a program that uses a file chooser dialog to select a file containing some integers. The file contains an integer N followed by N integers. The program then uses a file chooser dialog to let the user specify the name and location of an output file to write results to.The data written to the output file will be as follows
(1) The original list of N numbers from the input file,
(2) The original list of N numbers printed in reverse order of how they appear
in the input file.
(3) The sum and average of these numbers,
(4) The minimum of all the numbers,
(5) The maximum of all the numbers.

I need to make some operations with a file. I struggle to understand why Apache is throwing this error:
(The system cannot find the file specified)
My file is located in the root directory of the project.
And here is how I indicate the path to it:
String filePath = "default.jpg";
InputStream inputStream = new FileInputStream(new File(filePath));
If I put the file in the Eclipse folder, it works... But I need it to work if I put it in my project's root folder.

Well my code is supposed to ask for an input file and then (ex: input.txt), read the input file and create an output.txt file with the anagram for the words in the file. Also it should be displayed on the screen. However my code doesn't display the anagram on screen or the output file!
Heres is the code:
import java.io.*;
import java.lang.*;
import java.util.*;
/* This program will read a file given by the user, read the words within the file and determine anagrams of the given words. If the file that the user inputs is empty, then the program will output "The input file is empty."
* The program will read the file line by line, counting the total number of words read. If there are more than 50 words, "There are more than 50 words."
* will be printed, and the program will terminate. After each line is read, the words in the line will be separated,punctuation characters will be removed, and upper case characters will be switched to lower case.
* If any word is larger than 12 characters, that word will not be considered in the total amount of words in the file and it will not be sorted.
* After each word is read, the letters will be sorted and stored into an array containing each
* word's 'signature'. After all the words have been read, words will be printed to the output file on the same line based upon their signature.

In the above code the place New Text Document.txt we have to provide total path of file.
