Ideally, it's suppose to print out only Test2, Test3, Test6.. I've tried different combinations of loops and equals() but I never get the correct output.
At the moment I am studying it and the problem is Taking a range of names in an array and outputting them alphabetically, But for some reason I get an outOfBoundsException. And its starting to get to me. How to put the code in
I have to make a program in which users inputs a number and the program should search into a two dimensional array and print out all the values that are below the number This is my first time experimenting with 2D Arrays and how to do this program I have the array set up
I want to compere two element of string array by each other! eventually I want to print Yes or No in matrix . SO, I start reading data from file then split them into two parts .
File file= new File(fileName); try { inputStream = new Scanner(file); while (inputStream.hasNext()){ String data= inputStream.next(); String [] token =data.split(","); System.out.println("day"+token[0] +"embloyee name:"+ token[1]) ; } inputStream.close();
Now I want to compere each cell from token[0] by another array :
if the days are equal then I want print yes in front of the employee name if not then i want to print No..is this gone work with me as I imagine it to be or do I have to take few more steps to get my code going?
So in this program, which is a grading program, I am trying to compare all the students averages to find who has the highest one and list the grades and the student's names from least to greatest. Yes, I see there are other problems in the program but it is nowhere near finished.
import java.util.Scanner; public class Main { public static void main(String[] args) { String[] studentName = new String[20]; int[] studentAverage = new int[20]; Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
I need comparing two array lists. For this program i am comparing 2 array lists. The list is integers entered by the user the second is random generated numbers. So far in my program i am able to compare the 2 arrays together and output if they are equal or not however i need the program to output even if atleast one if the integers match,
EXAMPLE list one: 1, 2 ,3 ,4, 5. LIST TWO: 1, 3, 3, 3, 3.
Since the first number matches i want it to out put there is one match, so on and so forth with if there are 3 or 4 matching integers. here is my code so far.
public static void main(String[] args) { final int NbrsEntered = 5; //Number of guessed numbers entered final int LOTTOnbr = 5; int[] numbers = new int[NbrsEntered]; int[] randomNum = new int[LOTTOnbr]; //int[] TestArrayOne = { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 }; //int[] TestArrayTwo = { 1, 2, 3, 3, 5 }; boolean arraysEqual = true; int index = 0;
How do I compare an array (or maybe int?) (example: 3572) to a 4digit number from random generator? how many of the four digit match the generated numbers.
I have code that displays 3 game scores the series total and average. For some reason game 3 outputs 0 and game 1 and 2 output correctly. I don't see anything different that game 3 is doing that game 1 and game 2 aren't so I'm not sure what the problem is.
java file
package com.valenciaprogrammers.mybowlingscores; import java.text.DateFormat; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.Collections; import java.util.Date; public class BowlingScores implements Comparable<BowlingScores>{ private long id;
I have a loop and I was wondering why it is outputting my line twice. Here is the code:
while (x != -1) // closes the program if the user enters -1 for x { System.out.println("Which jar would you like to access? Please select a number between 1 and 3. Press -1 to exit."); x = scan.nextInt(); ourpantry.Selection(x); // tells our pantry class what number the user selected while ((response != "continue")) // loop continues until user gives a valid response
[Code] ....
This results in the Output:
Would you like to spread jam? Y or N. Would you like to spread jam? Y or N.
I created a calendar program so when the user enters a day number and a year it would show the calendar for the year . My issue was that I could not get the numbers to line up neatly and how they should look . Also if its not to much trouble I would like to know how to turn this in to a loop .
import java.util.Scanner; public class Calendar { public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner scanner = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("Enter a Year"); int Year = scanner.nextInt();
My current assignment involves me outputting these 2 classes. Yet I'm not really sure in what manner I should go about doing this. I have tried creating a separate class and outputting my toString methods there but for some reason I am getting an error. .
The error message is thus;
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException at Vehicle.toString(Vehicle.java:91) at Run.main(Run.java:17) Process completed.
I am currently working towards taking input from the user and storing it in an excel document. However how can I test to make sure that I am trying to save it to an empty cell. Is there some type of method that will check to make sure the cell is empty, otherwise how can this be done?
I was struggling to use BufferedReader to extract some data and then perform some calculations and then have the results as outputs.
I haven't quite solved that issue but in order to progress, I hard coded some values into my application and proceeded with the actual calculation loops etc.
Currently, the value out put from one of my calculations is given as:
1.1704926E7
How can I make the console show it in a natural way. I've performed the calculation manually and it should be 11704926.5 I don't want to lose that .5!
This is sort of like the last problem I had but it's all about the formatting at the end. I have a file that reads something like:
Name a bunch of text here and perhaps a second or even a third line
I need to output this as:
Name; "a bunch of text here and perhaps a second or even a third line"
Right now I find 'Name' and it outputs:
Namea bunch of text here and perhaps a second or even a third line
How would I add ";" and quotes in the middle? I can imagine that I may need to find name, then skip to the next line and just add name manually as the variable output of the search string.
This is where I am now
public static void main(String[] args) { boolean output=false; String name=""; String junk="CHAMBERS"; TextIO.putln("Search for a name"); name = TextIO.getln(); TextIO.readFile("doc.txt");
[Code] .....
So I'm almost there, but those dange double Names are killing me. I tried to add a bit of code where:
I am Having trouble with my program to validate. It is outputting null into the validation statement then it brings back a run-time error to that validation Statement for the String.
public String validateData () { if (nm == null)nm = "Error! Must enter at least one character"; else nm = name; return name; }//end validation method
Why is this happening, and then once that is completed, why is the validation Sentence in tests Scores not able to validate. I traced it back to out put "Error, a number between 1<100".
public void validateTests () { String testschange; if (test1 < 0 || test1 > 100) { testschange = " You have entered an invalid number, between 1-100. Please restart!"; testschange = Integer.toString( test1 ) ;
I am creating a hangman game and I want to read in a list of words from a text file, but after the user inputs the name of the text file. I get 'Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException'.
Here is the code, where I think the problems lie.
public void runModel(){ ArrayList<String> pirateWordsList = new ArrayList<String>(); System.out.println("What is the name of the file you would like to load? (The file included is called piratewords.txt'"); Scanner in=new Scanner(System.in); String file=in.next(); load(file);
[Code] ....
The full error message is this:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException at uk.ac.aber.dcs.pirate_hangman.Model.load(Model.jav a:108) at uk.ac.aber.dcs.pirate_hangman.Model.runModel(Model .java:45) at uk.ac.aber.dcs.pirate_hangman.Main.main(Main.java: 6)
Im trying to create a program in which I read line by line the contents of a text file, and then report each letter along with its frequency. I was wondering how to read through the lines and process it so that my program knows to increase by a number each time a letter appears in my text file. For example, if A appears in my file 5 times, B 3 times, and C 0 times I want to eventually print out
A -- 5 B-- 3 C-- 0
My first thought was to do this using array lists but is there any way I could do this without using one?
method called []getLetterGrades but the only hint My professor told me was that I needed to declare another array list for this method and he wouldnt tell me anything else so bummer. But I don't understand why if what we are returning is a char. It would make sense to return an array list of char to get letter grade. Which is what i did but since the function is a char, the array list character wont work as a return.Primarily i would like to know the type that is needed. I just want an explanation for an array list in this method and how it would serve in this method.
Directions: public static void initialize(ArrayList names, ArrayList sores)
You should write a function that sorts both array lists, based on the values in the scores array list. This is one of the more conceptually challenging parts of the assignment. You want to sort the scores array list, and simultaneously alter the names array list so that the names continue to line up with their respective scores by index. In the example data above, when the score 9900 moves to the first element of the scores array list, the name "Kim" should also be moved to the top of the names array list. The function should have the following signature:
I'm having trouble figuring out how to sort the lists.
import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.Scanner; public class Assignment5 { /** */ public static void main(String[]args) { intializeArrays();
I had to write a program that prompts the cashier to enter all prices and names, adds them to two arrays lists, calls the method that I implemented, and displays the result and use 0 as the sentinel value. I am having difficulty coming up with a for loop in the method, I believe I have the condition right but I am having trouble with the statements. I now know that String does not have the get property, but I have only done examples with integers and I am not very good with for loops and wouldn't know how to fix it.
public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in); ArrayList<Double> sales = new ArrayList<Double>(); ArrayList<String> names = new ArrayList<String>(); System.out.print("Enter Number of Customers"); double salesAmount; System.out.print("Enter Sales for First Customers"); salesAmount = in.nextDouble(); while(salesAmount != 0)
