I'm trying to create contact information as object and another object as parcel then calculate the shipping fee. Problem is I don't have a good understanding in implementing object type to my code. Attached are what I've done and I know that my constructor in my parcel class and contact class are probably wrong too but I don't know what to do with it.
//contact class
public class Contact {
private String Name;
private String Address;
private String City;
private String State;
private double Xco;
private double Yco;
I have a question about arraylist objects.... I want to create an address book that will contain a persons information (name, phone, address, email..etc..). The first two snippets of code are from the same class ContactArrayList and the last one is from the class Contact. Do I need to create a separate arraylist for each data type? Is it possible to use a single arraylist to contain all the object (person) information and then be searched for using a GUI? I would also like to be able to access this data to be manipulated using a JFrame (add, edit, and search).
public class ContactArrayList<E> implements List<E> { public int size, capacity; E contact; private E[] contacts; public ContactArrayList() { size = 0; capacity = 20;
I have a project in java that asks me to load some information from previous object files and add new objects to them afterwards. I created the files, but when I close the program and search for the previous information that should've been saved in the object file , it return nothing.
Here is the code.
Add method:
public boolean addUser (User u){ users[Ucount]=u; Ucount++; return true; }
The save method:
public void saveUser (){ try{ FileOutputStream FOS = new FileOutputStream("User.txt", true); ObjectOutputStream OOS = new ObjectOutputStream (FOS);
[Code] ....
The read method:
public void readUser (){ try{ FileInputStream FIS = new FileInputStream ("User.txt"); ObjectInputStream OIS = new ObjectInputStream (FIS); for (int i=0;i<Ucount;i++){
[Code] ....
*Note: When I open the object file I could see that the information are actually there, so I think there's a problem with the read method I'm not sure what it is.
I'm making a program that displays information for "employee" objects of different types. This works with a hierarchy that goes Person→ Employee→ Fulltime/Adjunct, and a driver that tests the inheritance. The Person class is given and only supplies the name, the employee class manages the year hired and the ID, and the types of employee classes manage the salaries.
One object (called staff[2]) is supposed to first be printed with default information and then later updated via set methods. I figured out how to update the name, but I don't know how to update the rest of the information because the employee's name is managed in the Person class and the reset of the information is managed in the less-general classes, and the objects are all in an array of Person.
How do I call the set methods necessary to update more of staff[2]?Output (scroll to see the updating section)
The current year is 2012
Name: Flintstone, Fred ID Num: BR-1 Year Hired: 2005 Years Of Service: 7 Salary: 65000.12 Fulltime Type Employee
I am making a program which will have the user enter their location (by postcode) into the GUI (Swing).
I want to use Google's Directions API [URL] .... to find directions from this user input address to another address. However, I have never gone about using external APIs before and even going as far as installing the necessary files on my system to get started is getting complicated.
How do I go about using this API in my own application? I have tried following the tutorials (e.g. [URL] .....) but I suspect I may even be using the wrong tutorial (I am seeing references saying that the client thing is depreciated).
So I am supposed to be changing infix notation to postfix notation using stacks. This is simply taking a string "3 + 5 * 6" (infix) and turning it into (3 5 6 * +" (postfix).
To do this, we are to scan the string from left to right and when we encounter a number, we just add it to the final string, but when we encounter an operand, we throw it on the stack. Then if the next operand has a higher input precedence than the stack precedence of the operator on the top of the stack, we add that operator to the stack too, otherwise we pop from the stack THEN add the new operator.
I am supposed to be utilizing a hash map but I don't see how you would go about doing this. We are supposed to store operators on the hash map but operators need their own character, input precedence, stack precedence, and rank. How do you use a hash map when you need to tie a character to 3 values instead of just 1? I just don't get it.
The following is our Operator class that we are to use. Another problem is this isn't really supposed to be modified, yet we were given two important variables (inputPrecedence and outputPrecedence) that we can't have nothing to be initialized to and no way of accessing? So that might be where a hash map comes in but I am not sure. I am not very sure on how they exactly work anyway...
public class Operator implements Comparable<Operator> { public char operator; // operator privateint inputPrecedence; // input precedence of operator in the range [0, 5] privateint stackPrecedence; // stack precedence of operator in the range [-1, 3]
[Code] ....
So my question mostly revolves around how I tie an Operator character to its required values, so I can use it in my code to test two operators precedence values.
My original thought was turn string into character array, but then I would need nested for/while loops to check if it is a number or letter, or if it is an operator and thus result in O(n^2) time
I have this Contact List program and im stuck on how to make my contact list show their different details. I don't know what to do , I want my program to be like this. What should I do next to make my every entry have different information then show on to the right side of the panel the information when i click the show details button .
I am working on a contact list program with a GUI for a school project.I'm running into all kinds of issues when trying to update the JList in my GUI which displays the contacts.I think my issues are being caused by a lack of synchronization between the contact list that stores the data, and the contact list that is being displayed.I've tried all kinds of getters and setters, passing array indexes, passing array member objects etc.
General rundown of how I want the GUI/Code to work: When I select an object in the JLIst, the fields on the right should display that objects information.When the "Add Contact" button is created, a new blank contact should be created and added to the Contact List, and then displayed in the JList.When a field on the right side of the GUI is updated, the object in the contact list is updated simultaneously (using document listener), and therefore the JList would also be updated.
I'm working on a GUI Phonebook and need getting a button to work for deleting a contact. I identified the error I get in the Gui class where it says applyDeleteEntry(); on line 106 with comments. The entries are stored in a .txt file which is created for you.
Main class:
import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.*; public class Main{ public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception{ Phonebook mainPhonebook = new Phonebook(); Gui mainGui = new Gui();
When I run my program and choose option 2 to get contact details I am expecting it to display as follows (First Name, Last Name): Contacts how have been entered:
0) John Doe 1) George Smith 2) Nancy Davis
Please enter the number corresponding to the contact you would like to view:
Instead for a personal contact it is displaying as follows:Contacts who have been entered:
0) Doe 1 F St. (last name, address)
Please enter the number corresponding to the contact you would like to view:
Instead for a business contact it is displaying as follows:Contacts who have been entered:
0) 1 F St. jd@gmail.com (address, email)
Please enter the number corresponding to the contact you would like to view:
Then when I enter the number to display the contact for personal it is returning me only first name and business is only returning me first and last name. It should be returning the full contact info that was put in during the add contact step. I thought I programmed everything properly but it isn't displaying what I want to seeMy code is listed below.
ContactList
/* * To change this license header, choose License Headers in Project Properties. * To change this template file, choose Tools | Templates * and open the template in the editor. */ package contactlist; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.Scanner;
I wrote a code from our text book for Pong. Im trying to figure out how to fill the ball with color. Im also wondering how to speed the ball up once there is contact with the paddle. The initial speed is ok but once contact is made with the paddle, it slows down. Makes it too easy to play. Here is my code so far. As far as the game goes, it works and is good. Just wanted to add a couple customizations.
I am currently working on a project where I need to return data from a database over RMI to a client who requests it. Some of the fields in the Data Object can not be seen by the client so I need to create another object to send over the network instead. The method I use is this...
public static SerializableObject createSerializableObjectFromDataObject(DataObject dataObject){ SerializableObject serializableObject = new SerializableObject(); serializableObject.setField(dataObject.getField()); serializableObject.setAnotherField(dataObject.getAnotherField()); return serializableObject; }
Is there a better way of doing this? I am creating many subclasses DataObject which all require this static method to be implemented and I can't push it into the superclass because each one needs custom behaviour.
how String objects are different from other objects
part 1:
// creating two objects Dog mydog1 = new Dog(); Dog mydog2 = new Dog(); // comparing the reference variables if( mydog1 == mydog2){ System.out.println(" The reference variables refer the same object "); } else { System.out.println(" They refer to different objects "); }
The above code works as I understand objects , it prints "They refer to different objects " to the screen.
Part - 2
// creating two objects ( I beleive, pls correct me if i am wrong ) String a = "haai"; String b = "haai";
if( a == b){ System.out.println(" Reference variables refer to same object");
When i run the above code it prints that a and b refer same object , I don't understand how they refer to same object when i didn't assign " String b = a; ". My question is did java just create one object and stored the same reference values to a and b .
I'm doing desktop application about recipes. User can create new recipe, add information. I want to sort recipes, save them somewhere, maybe make it possible to send recipes over network to other users. But I don't know where and how store information about those recipes. I always used to use .txt files for storing needed information, but it seems that it is not the best option.
Pulling info from a string. I have a string which contains some results such as [United States of America 1 Netherlands 0, Canada 1 United States of America 1, United States of America 3 Russia 1, Norway 2 United States of America 1, Sweden 2 United States of America 4"]. Now based on user input I need to pull the numbers from this string and add them up. So if the user inputs United States of America it would pull 1,1,3,1,4 put that in an array and add it. I know how to sum the array just not sure how to get that information from a string,
I am trying to find the GCD, add, and remove the biggest and smallest fraction, however I am having trouble getting user input into the array and getting the information out of it (Variable f).
Scanner keyb = new Scanner(System.in); Fraction[] frak = new Fraction[7];
Main_Class try { for (Fraction f : frak){ // for each array in frak print f; System.out.println("Enter Numerator"); int num = keyb.nextInt(); System.out.println("Enter Denominator"); int den = keyb.nextInt(); f = new Fraction(num, den);
I'm trying to take the information from one 2d char array and put it into another char array but instead of traversing the array left to right I want the new array to be top to bottom.
Example fg would be fh hi gi
I'm having trouble getting the information from one to the other.
[code]public static char[][] translateIt(char[][] english){ int rows = english.length; int columns = english[0].length; char[][] chinese = new char[columns][rows]; for(int j=0; j < columns; j++){ for (int i = 0; i < rows; i++){ //chinese[i][j] = english; this is commented out because it didn't work. }//Ending bracket of columns for loop }//Ending bracket of rows for loop
return chinese; }//Ending bracket of translateIt[code]
i have a program that is to store DVD information and when i enter all the information asked it returns no info. I have a DVD inventory file and a DVD extended file.
DVDinventoryprogram class package inventory2; import java.util.Scanner;
I am trying to figure out how to get information back from a different method.
Basically I want to write a program to create a car, but I want to be able to add features based on user our put (V6 versus V8, Color choice, etc), but I want each one to be broken out into their own method but I am unsure of how to call from the main method and return the variable (engineSize = V8, color = blue, etc).
I would want to use one of Swing components to display the students instead of displaying them on the stdout. How I could go about calling this method in some Swing components that can display all the students in the studentdb?
import java.util.*; public class TrafficIncidents { public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner s = new Scanner (System.in); // Array for days String [][] days = {{"Sat"},
[Code] ....
This is my output:
Day AM PM -------------------------------- Sat Sun Mon Tues Wed Thurs Fri 5 1 1 2 4 1 0
Basically I want to align the AM traffic incidents under the heading "AM" but am not sure how to accomplish this. I am using separate arrays for all three of these types of information and need the info to line up with their respective titles.
I'm having trouble conceptualizing something. I will post the code, it's works exactly as it should. I create an array and Hash Map to display periodic table of elements information after allowing the user to search by element name or symbol. I want the user to also be able to add elements to the periodic table. I can't really conceptualize how I am going to do that with an array I've already created.
Here's code:
//Create element objects. //Here is where I create my "elements" array, and where I could like to prompt the user to add elements, if desicred. Element[] elements = {new Element("Hydrogen", 1, "H", 1.008,1,1), new Element("Lithium",3, "Li", 6.94,2,1)}; // //Maybe it seems if I prompt the user here to add new element names, symbols, weights, etc, I would be overwriting
The requirement asked me to write a Java program to read information from the file, display the original information along with the player's average score of the season (one line for each player), and announce who is the highest average-scoring player of the team. But I always only get the highest which show the last player.
public Polygon polygonFrom(Point[] corners) { // method body goes here }
So from what I understand this is a constructor method for a Polygon object from the Polygon class. What I dont get is the name of the method polygonFrom()
Shouldn't a constructor for a Polygon just have the same name as the class? Because from earlier examples in the tutorial it seems to me that this is what has been done
For example:
public Bicycle(int startCadence, int startSpeed, int startGear) { gear = startGear; cadence = startCadence; speed = startSpeed; }
I am pretty new to java and where I should start. What I am trying to do, is to retrieve live information from poker sites as I play, typically my hand and the pot size. Is this possible? I know poker sites probably are very secure, but I can see those things (my hand, and the pot) anyway, I just want it to happen automatically. What I am trying to do, is to create a program that retrieves the information, and then calculate the odds of me winning.
I have an JSF that uses primefaces accordion snippet. However I want to populate the information from each tab from a seperate webpage that would also have accordion snippet in it. I can do this on a single page no problem, but the length of the program (webpage) is getting to the point that it is unmanageable.
How to get this to work... I am sure that it has something to do with my url but not sure how to fix it and I can not find anything on the web on how to do this.
