Continue Statement - Print Out What Numbers Showing Up And How Many Times For Each

Mar 22, 2014

I read on how to use the continue statement, but I'm failing in how to use it properly, mostly because it's not working. I'm supposed to print out what numbers are showing up and how many times for each. Plus, I have to print out 'times' instead of 'time' if there's more than one of a certain number. Right now, it's printing out all the numbers including the ones that don't get inputted.

import java.util.Scanner;
public class occurrence {
public static void main(String[] args) {

//scanner/values
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
int number = 101;

Scheduling Software - Display Chart Showing Lesson Times For Particular Teacher And Students

Aug 27, 2014

I want to develop a dynamic scheduling application that I hope to use at work, but I have some questions about the design approach since this is my first undertaking of this kind of project.

The purpose of the application is to display a chart showing the lesson times for a particular teacher and her students.

Here's are more important details:

-The chart displays the current day's schedule.
-The top row displays the teacher's name. There are at least 4 teachers each day.
-The leftmost column shows the times (from 3:00 to 8:00).
-The table is filled with the names of the students.

My current problem is deciding on the best approach to storing this data containing the teacher and her students and times. I should also note that there are about 500 students and around 20 teachers (i.e. the dataset is small). Is this a problem solved using a database and JDBC or could I just write the data to file? Are there other approaches that would solve this problem?

Java Statement Getting Executed Multiple Times Outside For / While Loop

Aug 14, 2014

I am trying to execute the following method: This method takes a delivery date as one of the arguments and a list of calendar holidays as another argument. If the delivery date is present in the holiday list, I will add 1 day more to the delivery date and check again if the new delivery date is part of holiday list.

Issue is that the last 3 statements before 'return' are getting executed multiple times though there is no for or while loop. Why they are getting invoked multiple times.

@SuppressWarnings("rawtypes")
private String fetchNextWorkingDay(String sDeliveryDate, Element eleCalendarDayExceptions, SimpleDateFormat sdf, Format formatter) throws Exception {
System.out.println("");
System.out.println("Inside fetchNextWorkingDay method");
System.out.println("Del Date to compare is "+sDeliveryDate);
Boolean isDateSet = true;

How To Print String Only Five Times

Print All Values In A Format Showing Their Key

Jun 14, 2014

Java Code:

public static void main(String[] args) {
HashMap<Integer, String> stuff = new HashMap<>();
stuff.put(1, "Book");
stuff.put(2, "Pancake");
stuff.put(3, "Waffle");

for(Map.Entry thing : stuff.entrySet())
System.out.println(thing.getKey() + ": " + thing.getValue());
} mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

So I make a HashMap which is pretty simple. My book showed me how I would print all the values in a format showing their key a ": " and the the actual value. What I don't understand is why the type element for the for each loop is the interface, Map.Entry.

How To Print A Character Random Number Of Times

Oct 26, 2011

I'm trying to write a method that will print a string of a random number of X's (from 5 to 20) on a line, then another number of X's on the next line, etc. until the random number = 16.

I have to use while loops and probably fencepost algorithms. I'm confused with how to print the number of x's the random number of times over and over.

Right now, I'm pretty sure my for loop is wrong or unnecessary.

So far, this is my code:

public static void randomX() {
int x = 0;
while (x != 16) {
x = (int)(Math.random()*20) + 5;
for (int i = 0; i <= x; i++);
{
System.out.print("x");
}
}
}

Multiply Two Numbers - Add X Number Y Amount Of Times

Jun 9, 2014

I am trying to make a program to multiplies two numbers without using the "*" operator. My idea was to add x number y amount of times, which is the same as multiplication. I did this with a for loop, but zero is always returned as the answer. How can I fix this?

public class secondMult {
public static void main(String[] args){
System.out.println(multWithSum(4,5));
}
public static int multWithSum(int x, int y){
int sum = 0;
for(int i = 0; i==y;i++){
sum = sum + x;
}
return sum;
}

Print 2 Lists - 20 Random Numbers And Another List Without Duplicate Numbers

Feb 1, 2015

I'm trying to make a program that generates 20 random integers between 1 and 20 and then prints the list of random numbers to the screen. After that, I want to print a different list to screen with the same numbers from the first list only skipping any number that has been already printed to the screen. So two lists are printed to the screen. The first one has 20 random numbers. The second one has those same 20 numbers but only prints the numbers in the first list that aren't duplicated. So if m

y list of 20 random integers contains three 2s and two 14s, only one 14 and one 2 is printed to the second list. Currently, my code generates 20 numbers from 1 to 20 and stores those numbers in an array but I don't know how to print solve the second part of my problem. I don't know how to print the s different list only without duplicate numbers. As a result, my output is nothing because it doesn't print any number from the first list as oppose to skipping only duplicate one.

public void randomNum(){
System.out.println("Twenty random integers: ");
int max = 20; // max value for range
int min = 1; // min value for range
Random rand = new Random();
int[] all = new int[20];

How To Print A Different Statement In If Else Structure

Feb 6, 2015

Implement a Las Vegas slot machine! The machine works as follows. First, it generates three random integers (use import java.lang.Math.*; then call Math.random()*7 to generate a random number between [a,b)) that are in the range of 0-7. Once the numbers are generated, the following rules are used to determine the prize:

- If all three numbers are equal to 7, you are winning $1,000,
- If all three numbers are equal, but not equal to 7, you are winning $500,
- If two of the numbers are equal to 7 and the third one is six, you are winning $400,
- If two numbers are equal, you are winning $100,
- Otherwise you are not winning anything.

And for that I wrote:

import java.lang.Math;

public class Assn1_2150130 {
public static void main(String[] args) {
// Generate three random signle-digit integar from 0-7.
int n1 = (int)(Math.random()*7);
int n2 = (int)(Math.random()*7);
int n3 = (int)(Math.random()*7);

[code]...

But I just can't figure out a way to print out the "YOU WON NOTHING." independently.If I say that n1!=n2 && n2!=n3 && n3!=n1, and then write another line of println. It gives out the number as well as the "NOTHING".

Switch Statement That Decides What Range To Print Based On Letter Grade Input

Nov 1, 2014

Alright so I wrote a switch statement that decides what range to print based on the letter grade input.

import java.util.Scanner;
public class SwitchPractice
{
public static void main(String [] args)
{
Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);

[code]...

It works fine, but once it the user enters a letter grade and then displays the value, it does not prompt the user for another letter grade so that it can perform the output again. Also if I wanted to display an error message to the user if they enter an invalid letter grade how would I do that. I tried using a while loop and if statement in the switch statement but that didn't work.

Why Recursive Method Continue To Return 0

Nov 13, 2014

I was told to write a method that adds up the sequence of the formula (n/2n+1) eg. 1/3 + 2/5 + 3/7 etc. simple enough i suppose. my method is below

public static double Series(int n){
if (n==0)return 0;
else return (n/(n*2+1)) + Series(n - 1);
}

However for some reason or another it returns 0 for any number that is put in. I've written it dozens of different ways with no change and i feel like something fairly obvious is being missed on my part. I am honestly intrigued and interested as to why this is happening. i assume it has something to do with the way i put the actual formula in cause if i put anything else in like simply n the recursion would work as expected.

How To Continue With Loop If User Decides To Not Quit

Mar 29, 2015

I have this program I have to write(attached). I am having problems with what the structure will look like. The following what I have so far. The questions I have are in bold.

>get userInput of how many observations

>for(int i = 1; i <= userInput; i++)
>for(int j = 1; j <= 1; j++)
>use a switch(case) method to ask user to select an option(1,2,3)
>example, user chooses option 1:
>ask to input time
>print displacement
>ask user to stop application(Y/N)
>IF "No" is selected --------->>

How do I continue with the loop if user decides to not quit? -- And do I need to put this in each 'case'?

Print 10 Numbers Per Line

Am having trouble understanding how to print my results (I have 50 of them) , only 10 per line.

Im using an array that is 1-50. The first 25 I raise to the power of 2 and print it.

The next 25, I multiple by 3 and print it

Public class KDowling {
/**
* @param args the command line arguments

double [] alpha = new double[50]; //declare an array 50 indexes
int num=1; // declare variable num
int counter=1;

121 144 169 196 225 256 289 324 361 400
441 484 529 576 625 78 81 84 87 90
etc...

Right now they are each printing out on their own line.
