Creating Analog Clock Based On Certain Values

May 3, 2014

I'm working on a Java/Android program that takes a number input (for example, hour = 7 and minutes = 30 for 7:30AM), and then expresses it on an Analog clock. (hour hand pointing to 7 and minute hand pointing to 30 minutes) ...

How can this be done? Would I need a lot of image files? How to start ...

Creating A Clock That Displays Different TIME In Different Capitals

Oct 16, 2014

As much as a clock and a calender have to do with date and time, a question arose.

I am creating a clock that displays different TIME in different captials.

Date timestamp = new Date();
timestamp.setTime(timestamp.getTime());
DateFormat time = new SimpleDateFormat("HH:mm:ss");
time.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getTimeZone("UTC"));
System.out.println(time.format(timestamp));

This code, returns the current time in UTC 00:00, the center of the time measuring system. And my program either ADDS an hour to the timestamp or deletes an hour, to make it earlier. My question is: Does Java account for Daylight Savings Time?

On that day, hours shift, and does java shift with them? Is there a changed need to make my code in order to not get the wrong results after the daylight savings time has hit?

Creating Tiled Based Map Game In Java?

May 10, 2014

I'm trying to create a tile based map JPanel but all I get is a white screen. I'm fairly new to the Java Swing and AWT package so I've been watching tutorials on YouTube so learn as much as I can. I don't know where I'm going wrong.

I've got three classes: Window.java which includes the Main method, Panel.java which is the JPanel and Tile.java to draw all the images into an array.

Window.java:

import javax.swing.JFrame;
public class Window extends JFrame {
public Window() {
setTitle("Project");
setSize(500, 400);
setLocationRelativeTo(null);

[Code] ....

Panel.java:

import java.awt.Color;
import java.awt.Dimension;
import java.awt.Graphics;
import java.awt.Image;
import javax.swing.JPanel;
public class Panel extends JPanel implements Runnable {
private Image dbImage;

[code]....

I've checked through everything and still cannot find what I'm doing wrong. I did try different codes but I just got errors instead.

Creating Java Based Message Board?

Jan 4, 2015

I'm trying to create java based fairly simple forum.

The task is as following:-

• each user may post exactly one research topic;

• each each may see all research topics posted by other users;

• each each may read all messages contributed by all users on a particular research topic;

• each user may post a new message to contribute to the discussion on any of the topics posted.

Something like below:-

User topic: Intrusion Detection Systems

Creating A Dialog That Add TextField Dynamically Based On A Radio Button

Dec 12, 2014

What would be the simplest way of creating a Dialog that can add TextField dynamically based on whether a radio button option from the dialog box is selected. I thought of JOptionPane.showMessageDialog and adding a JComponent though I would not be able to add a TextField on the fly and I would not be able to add ActionListeners. The dialog would initially contain some radio buttons, labels and textfields.

Drawing A Graph Based On Stock Values From 2 ArrayLists?

Apr 19, 2015

[URL] I made a program that takes 2 stock values by URL tickers, and now I need it to draw a graph with the values for the 2 stocks, so they can be compared visually. So far my idea was to create 2 arraylists that consist of the values for each stock, so that I can draw the graph so that x always move with 1 step, and y0 is the first coordinate, and y1 is the second, and after that y1 is the first, y2 second etc.

for(int j=0;j<25;j++)

My IDE says counter cannot be resolved or is not a field. I understand what it is saying but why not? I try my best not to put a bunch of code on here.

Creating Program That Will Estimate Child Height Based On Height Of Parents

Jun 19, 2014

I am trying to create a program that will estimate a child height based on the height of the parents. It should ask the user to enter a String representing the gender, so m or M for a male and f or F for a female. The program must handle both upper or lower case gender entries. I need it to ask the user for the height of both parents in two parts:

1. for Feet and store in an int variable.
2. for inches and store and int variable.

So for example if the father is 6' 2'', the user would enter 6 when asked for feet and 2 when asked for inches. Convert the height of the each parent to inches. hint 12" in one foot.

Apply the following formulas based on gender (must use an if statement(s)):

Hmale_child = ((Hmother * 13/12) + Hfather)/2
Hfemale_child = ((Hfather * 13/12) + Hmother)/2

I cannot figure out what is missing from my code

<import java.util.Scanner;
public class ChildHeight
{
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner scannerObject = new Scanner(System.in);
String gender;
String male;
String female;

Creating A Static Method That Requires No Arguments And Returns No Values?

Sep 28, 2014

I am doing an assignment and I am clueless as to what I did wrong or supposed to do in terms of placement of coding.

This is what I supposed to do:

1.) Type the following shell for the class:

public class ParadiseInfo
{
}

2.) Between curly braces of the class, indent a few spaces and create the shell for the main() method:

public static void main(String[] args)
{
}

3.) Between the braces of the main()Method, insert a call to the displayInfo() method:

displayInfo();

4.) Place the displayInfo() method outside of the main() method, just before the closing curly brace for the ParadiseInfo class:

public static void displayInfo()
{
system.out.println ("Paradise Day Spa wants to pamper you.");
system.out.println ("We will make you look good.");
}

This is what I attempted to do:

I know it is wrong I am just clueless on where to put the code and why

public class ParadiseInfo
{
displayInfo();
public static void main(String[] args)
{
public static void displayInfo();
}
system.out.println("Paradise Day Spa wants to pamper you.");
system.out.println("We will make you look good.");
}

--- Update ---

I also tried it this one and ended up with 1 error..

public class ParadiseInfo
{
displayInfo();
public static void main(String[] args)
{
}
public static void displayInfo();
{
system.out.println("Paradise Day Spa wants to pamper you.");
system.out.println("We will make you look good.");
}
}

Thread And Clock Management

Dec 19, 2014

I have objects (baddies in a game) that have individual clocks/counters assigned to them (when I make an object, I fill an integer based array list with a new digit entry at a value of one) that all happens in threads. then in another thread, I am checking the whole list of clocks, to see if any are equal to a wanted value , then I am taking an action and reseting the clock at that point on the array list.

now, the problem is:even though my code says " yes, I've taken that action because the value of array position x was >= specified value and I will now reset the clock" it doesn't reset the clock. Here is what it looks like

*these are excerpts taken from a really big program, however they should stand on their own as they are individual classes

Java Code:

public class levelclock extends Thread {
public void run() {
while (Run2 == true) {
if (Run == false) {
try {
Thread.sleep(100);
} catch (InterruptedException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();

[code]....

Elevator Simulation In Event Time Not Clock

Apr 10, 2014

I am making a elevator simulator for my class. It needs to be "event time". I am having trouble understanding how I can make an "event time" simulator. Initially I was using a while loop to run a clock time simulation of x seconds for each event, until I ran into a concrete wall and had to call another method which took X seconds, while still needing to execute code.

An example of what I did is:

Spawn person -> person.goToElevator (Takes x seconds) - > person.waitForElevator (Until elevator arrives, x seconds). While this is happening, I needed to create another person and do the same thing, this will add another to the queue if the first person is still waiting. Etc etc, you get the point.

We have not learnt about multi threading, that is the next assignment.

Here is a quote from my lecturer:

"That's right, it requires multi-threading which we're not doing in this paper. Here's a solution that can work:

The person waiting for the lift and then doing lots of other things should do all that in a fraction of a second. So, you don't let the person really wait. Instead, you will set a timestamp in the future in the person object that "he's busy till that time". In all other steps in your simulation you will first check if a person is "busy" (i.e. has a timestamp in the future). If so, you can't use this object, otherwise, you can.

How does it create a bigger queue? Outputs I would have in my final simulation would be, averageQueueLength, numOfPeopleInBuilding etc.

Report Employee Time Clock Cannot Find Corresponding Dates In And Out

Mar 8, 2014

I have this assignment to build an employee time clock. By using a menu you can enter an employee, enter punch in and out, and report.When I created the punch screen I wrote the in and out records to a file. Because there can be several employees punching in or out the file wrote each occurrence on different lines. Now I am attempting to write the report which you enter an employee Id and loop through the file to find the in and out date and then calculate the time (hours worked). I loaded the file into an Arraylist but now I cannot figure out how to loop through find the In and Out date - calculate the hours worked and then move on to the next day. here is the format of the file - employee id, place holder I or O, date, time, day. and sample

Store Pixels Values Currently On Screen And Compare Them To Values On The First Frame?

Aug 29, 2014

I need a way to store the pixels values currently on the screen and compare them to the values on the first frame. Right now I'm using glreadpixels as follows:

currentBuffer= BufferTools.reserveByteData(mapSize);
glReadPixels(mapStartX, mapStartY, mapWidth, mapHeight, GL_BLUE, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, currentBuffer);
for (int i = 0; i < mapSize; i++) {
if (currentBuffer.get(i) != baseBuffer.get(i)) {
//Do nothing
continue;
}
//Do something
}

This works perfectly fine but turns out to be a real bottleneck, dropping the fps to a third of what it was. Is there any quicker way? All I'm after is speed, I don't even need to show it on the screen if the comparison is made "behind the scene".

But, instead of displaying the desired values in the third column, I get the same names of the sections as in the second column.

Console Based Interface Loop

Mar 11, 2015

I am implementing a console based interface for an assigment. I've got a DAO interaces and implementations ready and I am stuck on a loop that checks whether to display logged in menu or logged out menu.

public static void main(String[] args) throws SQLException {
Main consoleInterface = new Main();
boolean runningLoop = consoleInterface.isRunning();
boolean loggedOutLoop, loggedInLoop;
while(runningLoop) {

[Code] ....

So when this runs it should show loggedIn() method only and only if the condition is not met. At the start when program runs I set loggedOutLoop = true and loggedInLoop = false. When I handle login I set loggedOut = false and loggedIn = true

What seems to happen is that the else statement doesnt work and the output I've got is only loggedOut() method displayed where I only want loggedIn() to be displayed without loggedOut().

I want to sort using empoyee firstName.. If two employee names are same, i need to sort based on eeid.. using insertion sort

if (key == "name") {
for (int i = 1; i < list.length; i++) {
Employee t = list[i];
int j;
for (j = i - 1; j >= 0 && t.getLastName().compareTo(list[j].getLastName())<0; j--)
list[j + 1] = list[j];
list[j + 1] = t;

It will sort using names.. But if two names are same, it wont sort based on eeid.. I want to achieve only using insertion sort..

How To Do Movement In Text Based Game

Feb 13, 2015

I'm relatively new to Java, I'm trying to create a text based game, like those old ones where you type "north" or "east" to move as such, and "look" to inspect the area. My only problem thus far has been trying to figure out just how I should... "structure?" the movement. As in, what's the best overall way to approach this? I've tried making a new method for every area and just passing a variable called "location," but along with passing the inventory and stat arrays, it's just become messy. Or is this a good way to do it? I have a separate method for when the player enters something, but then how will it know which description to give when the player types "look?"
