Creating TravelTimeRow Inside A Class With Strings For Time - Hours And Minutes

May 13, 2014

I have an application which is doing a fine job of placing the total hours on the interface.

Where I am breaking down is that I am unable to split the string into two distinct groups: hours and minutes

private HtmlElement createTravelTimeRow(ShowSet showSet) {
HtmlElement tr = new HtmlElement(ROW_OPEN, ROW_CLOSE);
HtmlElement td = new HtmlElement(CELL_OPEN, CELL_CLOSE);

[Code].....

I came across something which showed how to split the String but I am still very unsure how to do this.

Time Comparison - Converting To Seconds / Minutes And Hours

Apr 27, 2013

I want to compare two times. What I am doing is

java.util.Date date = new java.util.Date();
java.sql.Time cur_time = new java.sql.Time(date.getTime());

/*this is my database connectivity code from where I am getting second date that I am comparing. This is right. Don't bother it.

Connection c= ConnectionManager.getConnection();
String sql = "select t from datesheet where subjectCode=? and sessional=? and d=?";
PreparedStatement ps = c.prepareStatement(sql);
ps.setString(1,subjectCode);
ps.setString(2,sessional);
ps.setDate(3,cur_date);
ResultSet rs = ps.executeQuery();*/
if(rs.next())
{
java.sql.Time t = rs.getTime("t");
long diff = cur_time.getTime()-t.getTime();
}

Then I am converting it to seconds, minutes and hours, but the problem is time that we get from cur_time.getTime() has more digits than time that we get from t.getTime(), so it is always greater than t.getTime() even when it is not.

long seconds = (diff/1000)%60;
long minutes = (diff/60000)%60;
long hours = (diff/(60*60*1000))%24;

Military Time - Adding Minutes Displaying Correct Time

Feb 9, 2015

I am working on an assignment that I can't seem to figure out the final part to. The program takes in course data such as the time the class starts and how long it lasts. The time is in military time (0000 - 2400)

I need the output time to be the time the class started, plus the length of the class, and displayed in military time.

for example,

Start Time = 0930
Length = 50 minutes
Endtime = 1020

I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this. I have gotten a program that works for this time and minutes, and displays the correct 1020. But when I change the information to say

Start time: 0700
Length = 90 minutes

I get:

Endtime = 90

90 is technically correct, the way the formula is setup, but I need it to display 0900 not 90.

Here is the code that I have. Be easy, I'm still learning, and this is just the file I created to get the formula to work. Also, the verbose in here is just for my own debugging to make sure values should be what I'm expecting them to be.

public class calc
{
public static void main(String[] args) {
double hours, minutes, length;
double temp;
int time = 2400;
hours = time / 100;
System.out.println("Hours are: " + hours);

For Loop Program - Increment Hours By 12 And Double Population By 2 Each Time

Oct 3, 2014

So I need to make a for loop for this problem: A certain type of bacteria doubles its population every twelve hours. If you start with a population of 1000, how many hours will it take for the population to exceed 1,000,000? Output needs to be in table format, such as:

Hours: - Population:

Simulate Airport - Calculate Average Time A Plane Stays Inside A Queue For

Nov 13, 2014

Write a program to simulate this airport's operation. You might assume a simulated clock that advances in one-minute intervals. For each minute, generate two random numbers: If the first in less than LandingTime /60, a "landing arrival" has occurred and is added to the landing queue, and if the second is less than TakeOffTime /60, a "takeoff arrival" has occurred and is added to the takeoff queue.

Next, check whether the runway is free. If it is, first check whether the landing queue is nonempty, and if so, allow the first plane to land; otherwise, consider the takeoff queue. Have the program calculate the average queue length and the average time that an airplane spends in a queue.

I have most of the code done as you can see below:

* Queue Interface: Queue.java
* Queue Implementation: ArrayQueue.java
* Demo Program: Airport.java

Right now, I am stuck on the first calculation which is trying to figure out the average size of the landing queue. For some reason, as you can see at the bottom of my demo program, the average always comes out to be 0.0 and I'm not sure what's wrong.

Secondly, how to calculate the average time a plane stays inside a queue for.

Creating A Clock That Displays Different TIME In Different Capitals

Oct 16, 2014

As much as a clock and a calender have to do with date and time, a question arose.

I am creating a clock that displays different TIME in different captials.

Date timestamp = new Date();
timestamp.setTime(timestamp.getTime());
DateFormat time = new SimpleDateFormat("HH:mm:ss");
time.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getTimeZone("UTC"));
System.out.println(time.format(timestamp));

This code, returns the current time in UTC 00:00, the center of the time measuring system. And my program either ADDS an hour to the timestamp or deletes an hour, to make it earlier. My question is: Does Java account for Daylight Savings Time?

On that day, hours shift, and does java shift with them? Is there a changed need to make my code in order to not get the wrong results after the daylight savings time has hit?

Structs In Java - Can Put Class Inside A Class?

Mar 17, 2014

I will give an example below of what I am talking about. in C++ I know I would need a copy constructor because I would be pointing blindly in the heap if I deleted a object in the struct.

We have a Class/struct animal and three animals in that class/struct, a dog, a cat and a cow. Each animal has a baby and then I will give the animal a name in main. But if I delete one of the dogs puppies because I sold him wouldn't I being pointing off in the heap and have a leak?

Also since Java doesn't have structs can I put a class inside a class?

Creating / Using Object Class To Create Another Field In Another Class?

Jun 10, 2014

Design a class named Person and its two subclasses named Student and Employee. Make Faculty and Staff subclasses of Employee. There is also a MyDate class as explained below. A person has a name, address, phone number, and email address. A student has a status (freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior). Define the status as an integer which can have the value 0 (for "Freshman"),

1 (for "Sophomore"),
2 (for "Junior"), and
3 (for "Senior"),

but don't allow the status to be set to any other values. An employee has an office, salary, and dateHired. The dateHired is a MyDate field, which contains the fields: year, month, and day. The MyDate class does not explicitly inherit from any class, and it should have a no-arg constructor that sets the year, month, and day to the current year, month, and day. The MyDate class should also have a three-argument constructor that gets three int arguments for the year, month and day to set the year, month and day.

A faculty member has office hours and a rank. Define the rank as a String (for values like "Professor" or "Instructor"). A staff member has a title, which is also a String. Use data types for the fields as specified, or where one is not specified, use a data type that is appropriate for the particular field. Write a test program called TestEveryone.java that creates a Person, Student, Employee, Faculty, and Staff object, and invoke their toString() method (you don't need to call the objects' toString() method explicitly).

Note: Your MyDate.java class is the object class that your dateHired field is created from in the Employee.java class.

Do not use the Person, Employee or Faculty classes defined on pages 383 and 384 of the book. Create new ones.Here is the code I have so far concerning the employee and MyDate.

public class Employee extends Person {
private String office;
private double salary;
//private MyDate dateHired;
//7 argument constructor for employee
public Employee(String name, String phoneNumber, String email, String address, String office, double salary /*MyDate dateHired*/) {
super(name, phoneNumber, email, address);

Creating New Non-static Inner Class Outside Of Parent Class

Nov 22, 2014

I have an Abstract Class called GameColorEffect which contains a number of non-static Inner Classes that extend their Parent Class, GameColorEffect. I want to be able to create instances of the Inner Classes, however my IDE, eclipse, prompts me with the error:

No enclosing instance of type GameColorEffect is accessible. Must qualify the allocation with an enclosing instance of type GameColorEffect

And eclipse shows me a possible solution which is to turn the Inner Classes to static, this would allow me to create instances, but not really. This is because using methods from the static Inner Classes that change values in the Inner Classes will do this for every instance of the same Inner Class which is literally like a single instance. However, I want these Inner Classes to be individual with their values and still be able to use them outside as instances. I've found out a possible solution, which I'm not sure works like I want it to:

Java Code : GameColorEffect = new GameColorEffect.ExampleEffect(); mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

However, this is in-compact because sometimes all I need is to use just a method like:

Java Code : new GameColorEffect.ExampleEffect(intensity).applyEffect() mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

And another solution that I already knew prior was that I could make the Inner Classes proper classes not inside of the GameColorEffect class, but this is also in-compact because I will have to have so many classes for the so many effects that I have.
