Delimiter - Type In 5 Strings From Java Console And Print Them All Out
Feb 13, 2015
I am testing some stuff here is my code:
public static void main(String[] args) {
String[] a = new String[5];
//String input = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null, "enter input");
Scanner scanner = new Scanner(System.in);
[Code] ....
I am trying to type in 5 strings from java console and print them all out. I am using a "/" as a delimiter. My problem is that it does not print any output after I type strings separated by "/" like this: hello/gea/cae/eaf/aer and press enter. It works if I use JOptionPane but from the console its not working. I want to use the console instead of JOptionPane for this one.

I am having a great deal of frustration trying to use the scanner to get user input from the eclipse console. Here is what I am trying to do.
Print a menu for the user with options, take that (1) char input and run it into a switch statement for processing. I have that done and it is working fine.
If the user chooses to enter strings for storage, They are instructed to enter their string and press enter to complete that string entry. Then enter the next string and press enter, etc.
So I have a While loop for this. Get the scanner input, store it in the LinkedList, get the next scanner input, etc. I get the scanner string and store it in a Linked list. That works fine. The user is instructed to simply enter a blank string to end the entry procedure, like just press Enter on the new line without typing a new string.
The problem is the scanner doesn't seem to return anything for me to Test to close this procedure. How do I TRAP the fact that the user just pressed enter so I can end my procedure? I have tried next() and nextLine() and reset(), etc. And I am getting knowhere.

I'm writing a command line application of a calculator in Java. I need to be able to (as per program requirements) split the array of strings (6+3) into an array of strings? How would that be done? I know you can use the split method, but I am not really sure how that wold work to perform math with them?
On a side note: for this application, how could you make the program accept a variety of different lengths of strings to perform math with them?

Use the sort method of the arrays class to sort the values in the array, and print the median value(the 50th value) on the console followed by a blank line. Then, test this enhancement. Print the 9th value of the array on the console and every 9th value after that. Then, test this enhancement.
import java.util.Arrays;
public class ArrayTestApp
{
public static void main(String[] args) {
double [] arrayTest = new double[99];
//adding random number to each element in the array
for(int i=0; i<arrayTest.length; i++)
arrayTest[i] = 100.0*Math.random();
[Code] ....
OUTPUT
run:
The average is: 49.842845462514944
The median is: 49.68753724038633
The 9th value is: 2.599530043466969
The 9th value is: 11.486193141397095
The 9th value is: 20.14206270200648

How can i convert this linked list code to a read from input.txt
The first line in the input file will give the elements to initialize the linked list with. Consecutive lines will provide operation instructions.
Your code should read one line at a time. After reading each line, it should perform the corresponding operation and print the linked-list on the console.
If an operation is not possible, it should print "N/A".
Sample input file. Please note, the comments (// ...) are given for explanation, the input file will not have them:
4, 5, 6, 3// First line. This will provide the initial values for the linked list : 4->5->6->3
1, 9// Add a 9 at the front of the linked-list. After this operation the linked-list should be: 9->4->5->6->3
2, 1// Add a 1 at the end of the linked-list. After this operation the linked-list should be: 9->4->5->6->3->1
3, // Delete the first node in the linked-list. After this operation the linked-list should be: 4->5->6->3->1
4, // Delete the last node in the linked-list. After this operation the linked-list should be: 4->5->6->3
5, 11// Delete the node with the value 11 in it. Since this is not possible, it should print "N/A"
5, 6// Delete the node with the value 6 in it. After this operation the linked-list should be: 4->5->3
Sample output to the console:
4->5->6->3
9->4->5->6->3
9->4->5->6->3->1
4->5->6->3->1
4->5->6->3
N/A
4->5->3

LinkedList.Java
class linkedList

protected Node start;
protected Node end ;
public int size ;

I just started in java programming and into Arrays multidimensional. I started a simple 2 dimensional array with 5 names with genders. I 'm having issues because it does not want to print out the names with correct genders Male/ Female. The simple program should print out the 5 names with gender type.
example:
Jack - Male
Sally - Female
Dave - Male
Sue - Female
Brian - Male
Here is what I came up with so far:
public class Multiname
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
//String[][] multiname;
String [][] multiname =
[Code] .....
This is the result:
multiname : Jack
multiname : sally
multiname : Dave
multiname : Brian
multiname : Sue

This is my input from my text file: 1|John Jay Smith|1985-01-10|2010-05-10|2014-03-05|212-222-2233..So, I have to convert 1 to integer. Break John Smith into first name as John and Middle name as Jay Last name as Smith.If no middle name is given then first is John and Last is Smith . Read 1985-01-10 as a date value . 2010-05-10 as another date value which could be null. 2014-03-05 as another date value which could be null. and at last 212-222-2233 as phone number.
Scanner sc = new Scanner (inFile);
sc.nextLine();
while (sc.hasNext()){
String row= sc.nextLine();
I want to read this line of input and assign the value accordingly.

Working on my java skills. The is Delimiter function is suppose to return true if there is a delimiter in the string and false otherwise. The main is suppose to call this function and count the number of words in the string:
Here is what I came up with:
import java.util.*;
public class NumberOfWordsInString {
public static void main (String[] args){
Scanner in= new Scanner (System.in);
String s;
[Code] ....
Somehow my method isn't being successfully called by my main and the following error msg was received:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Error: Unresolved compilation problems:
length cannot be resolved or is not a field
The method isDelimiter(char) in the type NumberOfWordsInString is not applicable for the arguments (char[])
at javaimprovements.NumberOfWordsInString.main(Number OfWordsInString.java:10)
line 10:
char ch [] = new char [s.length];

I seem to be having a issue with my java console app what it should do is query a SQL DB and list the user details (userid, firstname ,lastname) from the user table, and the users stocks (stockname ,stockdiscription) associated to each user from the userstocks table if I'm thinking correctly!
I'm sure it is just a logical error, but I'm not sure of the way to get the out put I'm looking for. I will add the makeDB.java file and DatabaseQuery.java file as well as the current Exception(Run Time Exception) below.
**I have added other users and stocks manually - Not just what the MakeDB.java file inserts **

Is there a way to write this, where, alpha is one array.
Write a program that declares an array "alpha" of 50 elements of type "double". Initialize the array so that the first 25 elements are equal to the square of the index variable and the last 25 elements are equal to three times the index variable. Output the array so that 10 elements per line are printed.
If I have an array of 50 integers, can I break that to read in lines of 10?
