Displaying A Return Value

Jan 18, 2014

I am working on a program to have a user input two positive integers and then finding the greatest common denominator between the two. My problem is, I don't know how to display the number (num2) that is returned after the method. Putting a simple System.out.println gives me the error "unreachable code".

Method Must Return Int Type - If Given Integer Is Strong Return A / If Not Return B

Sep 7, 2014

I want to use a method, which takes for example an int and also returns an integer. For example, if the the given integer is strong return a, if it is notstrong return b. How would you write that in a Code?

I want to use that in a more general way. I want to give a method mlong the value X of the type date and let it return an int. Type date consists of 3 int, one of them is the int month.

mlong should return an int depending on the X.moth. at the moment my code looks like this:

// File1:
public class date {
public int day;
public int month;
public int year;
}

// File 2:
public class monthlength {
public int mlong(date X) {
int t;
t = X.month;
if (t == 1 || t == 3 || t == 5 || t == 7 || t == 8 || t == 10 || t == 12)
{ return 31; }
if(t == 4 || t == 6 || t == 9 || t == 11)
{return 30;}
}

How To Return Values In Object Return Type Function (method)

Apr 2, 2014

How do i take input values for TwoDPoint (which are objects) and return it back in numerical values also print them.

When i create an object in main method and pass values to my function of return type TwoDPoint,it gives error:- found int,int need TwoDPoiint,TwoDPoint.

// Here is what i tried to do:

Created class TwoDPoint that contains two fields x, y which are of type int. Defined another class TestTwoDPoint, where a main method is defined.In the main method created two TwoDPoint objects.

Then I modified the class TestTwoDPoint and add another function to it. This function takes two TwoDPoints as input and returns the TwoDPoint that is farthest from the point (0,0).

Then I added another function to TestTwoDPoint. This function takes two TwoDPoints as input and returns a new TwoDPoint whose x value is the sum of x values of the input TwoDPoint's and whose y value is the sum of the y values of the input TwoDPoint's.

class TwoDPoint {
int x = 2;
int y = 4;
}
class TestTwoDPoint {
public static void main(String args[]) {
TwoDPoint obj1 = new TwoDPoint();
System.out.println(obj1.x);
System.out.println(obj1.y);

Array Is Not Displaying

Feb 10, 2015

I have a problem with one method for my assignment. This is the requirement for this method: "This method uses a loop to list all accounts contained in the Array, adding each account details to a String, before outputting to screen in the format specified in the screenshot below. Ensure that there are no out of bounds exceptions by checking if each array slot has an account object before adding its details to the output String. (arrayname[index] != null)"This is my code for this method:

public void listAllAccounts() {
String allAccountsString = "List of all accounts:
";
for(int i = 0; i < ACCOUNT_SPACES; i++) {
//allAccountsString += accountArray[numAccounts];
if (accountArray[i] !=null) {
allAccountsString += accountArray[i].toString() + "
" ;
}
}
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, allAccountsString);

The problem is that the Message Dialog does not display the accounts I have already created. It just displays "List of all accounts:
";

Frame Not Displaying

Sep 20, 2014

I created a instance of a class AddItemView, inside StartUpMenuController. I then passed it into the class, the main method is below showing that as well. However when I do this:

else if(e.getSource()==menu.addBtn)
{
new addItem();
}

I get an error, little red line on the bottom of the text. I am testing the frame at the moment to make sure it is what I want before I move on to the Controller side of it. I just want to display it and go from there.

package mainMenu.Home.DataBase;
import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
import addItemBtn.Home.DataBase.AddItemView;
public class StartUpMenuController
{
StartUpMenu menu;
AddItemView addItem;

[code]...

Not sure if this is the issue but the class I am making a new instance of is in a different package. I imported the package though.

Displaying Pie Chart In JScrollPane

Mar 12, 2014

I have a JScrollPane and JTable inside. In the right column of the table at the end (south) I made a ChartPanel in one of the classes where I make the design for the Frame:

Java Code:

ChartPanel chartpanel = new ChartPanel(pieChart);
pCapturing.add(chartpanel, BorderLayout.NORTH); mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

And when I click on any row above, from the list in the column, I would like an appropriate pie chart to be drawn.

I need here (in another class where I define the getTableCellRendererComponent) to enter a code to display the chart in the last row of the panel:

Java Code:

PieChart3 pie=sectionsChartProvider.getSectionPieChart(section);
...
...
if((hasFocus) || (isSelected)) {
if(column == 0)
setBorder( new MatteBorder(1, 1, 1, 0, colorBorder) );

[Code] .....

But, I don't know how to do this. I also have a class for drawing the pie chart.

document.getElementById('check1h').style.display='none';

function checkvalue (val) {

document.getElementById('check1h').style.display='block';
document.getElementById('check1n').style.display='block';
else if (val==='checked')
document.getElementById('check1h').style.display='none';
else

Is this not possible?

<input type='text' style='display:none' name ='check1h' id='check1h' placeholder='Part Number' />

Parts of the array have been placed into a string.

So string one will have about 50 different values which I am able to print into the console using System.out.println("FirstString"); This prints all of the variables from the array so I end up with 50 words.

I am now trying to get this into a HTML document.

I have correctly done this and I get some out put when the webpage opens.

My problem is that I only have 1 work which is displayed.

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Displaying PNG In A Window

Jan 31, 2014

That's my third day working in Java using Swing and the IntelliJ Idea IDE.I'm trying to do something as simple as displaying a PNG in a window, and I'm doing this:

public class AboutRapide {
public JPanel mainPanel;
private void createUIComponents() {
mainPanel = new ImagePanel();

[cod]....

the problem is that, in the paintComponent method, the Image is never found when I run my app from the IDE, but it is when I run it from Finder in my Mac. Same application. I think it relates to how the application is launched so I guess what's a proper way to refer to a resource file with an image so it can be displayed no matter how the application is launched?Also if I generate a Jar for the application, as the resource gets into the Jar compressed file, it can't also be loaded.

Displaying All Paths In A Tree

Nov 20, 2014

I know what the tree data structure is, how it works, etc., but I need to design a method that will sequentially print out all the paths in the tree (i.e. for each node).

The method as provided is

private static String getAllPaths(final BinaryNodeInterface<Character> root) { }

Now the string that must be returned needs to be of the format:

root.getData() + " " + path + "
"
root.getData()[1] + " " + path[1] + "
"
etc.

The pseudocode I was thinking of doing was something along the lines of:

paths
if(root.getData() = null) return paths;
path = ?; // absolutely no clue what to do here
paths += root.getData() + " " + path + "
";
if(root.hasLeftChild()) {
newPath += "0";
paths += begin recursion;
}
if(root.hasRightChild()) {
newPath += "1";
paths += begin recursion;
}
return paths;

Problems:

(1) I don't know how to determine "path" before the left and right children check (the root node's path is "", the first left node's path is "0", the first right node's path is "1", pattern continues with left being "0" and right being "1").
(2) I don't know where to put newlines precisely.
(3) I'm not sure how to get the print layout precisely as it is supposed to be. At most I've been able to just get the last number in the sequence (i.e. if it was supposed to be "1000", I could get "0".

I am working with the pseudocode formulation, especially in regards to the logic and formatting. I think once I have an understanding of what is going on, I can solve it. And yes, I've gone through a couple pseudocode rewrites (a few hours worth) and haven't gotten anywhere which is slightly unnerving.
