EJB / EE :: Long Running Task Processing In Java

Feb 18, 2014

I want to develop a Java EE application for the following scenario.

Webapp takes a file from a user and analyze the file. This analysis could take hours. User should be able to check if the analysis is finished via AJAX. When the analysis is finished user should be able to view the analysis report that has been generated by the analyzer.

I checked what are the possibles ways I could achieve this but couldn't get a clear idea. I heard about JMS, Work Manager API and servlet asynchronous processing. But still not sure what to use and how to use.I'm not very much familiar with EJB.

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Disable Event While Performing Long Running Task

Apr 28, 2015

I have in my application a button that when it is pressed, runs a long running task (usually takes a couple of seconds....).

My problem is that while the task runs, I want to stop the button from receiving clicks. Unfortunately this is something I have not achieved.

I have tried creating a new thread and calling the long running method, and using the Display.geCurrent().asyncExec...

Examples of what I have tried so far:

myButton.addSelectionListener(new SelectionAdapter() {
@Override
public void widgetSelected(SelectionEvent e) {
if (myList.size() > 0) {
myButton.setEnabled(false);
myButton.setGrayed(true);

[Code] .....

In both cases, while the button is disabled and the cursor busy, if the user clicks the button, the long running method is ran several times - and this is what I want to avoid.

Swing/AWT/SWT :: How To Cancel A Long Running Database Background Process In Program

Apr 16, 2014

Can we cance/stop a long running database query execution instantly so that we can do any another task.

As i know swing uses a single thread i,e Event Dispatch Thread (EDT), But at the same time we can use Swingworker class for better use of UI. When we use Swingworker class the process goes to a different thread and our basic UI is not Frozen. Infact we can do another task. But what I want is I want to stop of cancel the execution of swingworker thread ( Because I that thread takes long time to execute). How can I do that??

I used ProgressMonitor and in the cancel option i canceled the task ( worker.cancel(true) also i closed the connection and statement for executing the database query using stmt.close() and conn.close() methods.

But it does not work. How to cancel a long running database background process in a Java Swing Program.

I have this code which suppose to sort files by their length and return a string[] of th file names:

Polymorphic Containers And Text Processing In Java?

May 9, 2014

It seems we have abandoned Dice/Die(s), and are now working on something completely foreign. I don't even have a code to start with because I haven't the faintest clue what is going on here (no notes given on this topic, as usual). We are given 4 half-written programs to work with.

The instructions are:

"Examine the FormLetterEntry abstract class, and create the two derived classesTextEntry and DataItemEntry. Be sure to implement all the abstract methods in each derived class."

This is the code we were given:

package homework5;
import java.util.Properties;
/**
* Abstract class representing the entries in a form letter.
**/
public abstract class FormLetterEntry {
/**
* Retrieve the template string for this entry
* @return the value of this entry in a template
**/

[code].....

I understand (and correct me if I am wrong) that a derived class is a class that is created from a base class via inheritance. What I don't see are any notes on how to write a derived class. I see some notes online on how to do so, but they don't fit with what he's written above. What he means by "Be sure to implement all the abstract methods in each derived class."

Running Programs Through Java

Mar 30, 2014

I've been playing around with this for about an hour.

Java Code:

Runtime runTime = Runtime.getRuntime();
try {
Process process = runTime.exec("notepad");
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
} mh_sh_highlight_all('java');
So that works. Notepad will open.

However, I'm trying to get other programs to open. Specifically, this program: C:Octave3.2.4_gcc-4.4.0inoctave-3.2.4.exe...However, using that in place of notepad doesn't work. I'm assuming that there is some sort of system variable that explains why simply typing "notepad" works? As if you type notepad into the run box, notepad will open. Soo does that snippet work by going through some sort of system variables?How would I go about opening other programs, such as the one I referenced above.

Running Java App With SQLite On Ubuntu

Nov 12, 2014

I have built a Java app that uses SQLite (sqlite-jdbc-3.8.7.jar). Running the jar file on windows works as expected however, trying to run it on Ubuntu Server 14.04 has turned into quite a task!

I put together a brand new machine in VirtualBox for testing. I installed Java (sudo apt-get install default-jre) and have installed SQLite (sudo apt-get install cl-sql-sqlite3 sqlitebrowser). I created a new sub-directory within my home directory and copied over the jar file. From terminal, I then run the command: sudo java -jar ProductionView.jar and I receive a java.lang.unsatisfiedlinkerror. For troubleshooting, within the app, before making a connection to the db, I have printed out the location of where the db is to be created and it is correct (see attached pic). Is there more that needs to be configured before I can run this app on Ubuntu? I have posted the relevant code below :

(AppDatabasePath() is what is printed in the image...).

public static String AppDatabasePath() {
return AppPath() + APP_NAME + ".db";
}
public static String AppDatabase() {
return "jdbc:sqlite:" + AppDatabasePath();
