Embedding Maps In Swing Application

Jul 28, 2014

I'm developing a java swing application in which i need to show the map of some area and allow user to put markers on it. I've goggled a lot on the topic but unfortunately i haven't got any how i can do it.

I came across some ideas like displaying a web browser in swing just like JXBrowser (i can't afford JXBrowser). And I'm also not sure if this way will allow me adding markers.

Embedding Executable JAR File In A Webpage

Feb 20, 2014

Embedding an executable .jar file on a webpage. I am not a programmer and we use Blackboard Publish to package our Blackboard sessions into a standalone executable .JAR file which gives the user the full Blackboard experience. We want to embed this file on our webpage, so I did some research and I understand I have to use a Japplet (?). I have tried putting the basic (J)applet code I found on the web (modified of course) onto the webpage (see code below) but I get a 'ClassNotFoundException' error. I don't have the ability to define the files that are in the .JAR created by Blackboard Publish. How I would go about embedding this file? I can look at the files within the .jar with Winzip but there seem to be loads of .class files and I am unclear which one my webpage is trying to find!

<APPLET CODEBASE="/Blackboard/" ARCHIVE="test.jar" CODE=test.class WIDTH=140 HEIGHT=45>
<(J)APPLET>

Combine Or Merge 2 Sorted Maps Into 1 Based On Common Key?

Jul 16, 2013

I have a small problem to solve by which I would like to merge 2 sorted maps into 1.

Map A
-------
Keys, Values
1, A
2, B
3, C
4, D
5, E

Map B
-------
Keys, Values
1, 10
2, 20
3, 30
4, 40
5, 50

Final Map should look like:

Keys, Values
A, 10
B, 20
C, 30
D, 40
E, 50

The final map would have all the values from Map A as a key and the values from Map B as values in the Final Map. Is there a way to do this using Java?

Changing Infix To Postfix Notation Using Stacks - How To Utilize Hash Maps

Apr 7, 2014

So I am supposed to be changing infix notation to postfix notation using stacks. This is simply taking a string "3 + 5 * 6" (infix) and turning it into (3 5 6 * +" (postfix).

To do this, we are to scan the string from left to right and when we encounter a number, we just add it to the final string, but when we encounter an operand, we throw it on the stack. Then if the next operand has a higher input precedence than the stack precedence of the operator on the top of the stack, we add that operator to the stack too, otherwise we pop from the stack THEN add the new operator.

I am supposed to be utilizing a hash map but I don't see how you would go about doing this. We are supposed to store operators on the hash map but operators need their own character, input precedence, stack precedence, and rank. How do you use a hash map when you need to tie a character to 3 values instead of just 1? I just don't get it.

The following is our Operator class that we are to use. Another problem is this isn't really supposed to be modified, yet we were given two important variables (inputPrecedence and outputPrecedence) that we can't have nothing to be initialized to and no way of accessing? So that might be where a hash map comes in but I am not sure. I am not very sure on how they exactly work anyway...

public class Operator implements Comparable<Operator>
{
public char operator; // operator
privateint inputPrecedence; // input precedence of operator in the range [0, 5]
privateint stackPrecedence; // stack precedence of operator in the range [-1, 3]

[Code] ....

So my question mostly revolves around how I tie an Operator character to its required values, so I can use it in my code to test two operators precedence values.

My original thought was turn string into character array, but then I would need nested for/while loops to check if it is a number or letter, or if it is an operator and thus result in O(n^2) time

Swing/AWT/SWT :: JComboBox Crashes Application

Sep 15, 2014

I lately started using "advanced" Swing-Components, like JTabbedPane and JComboBox, but I dont get the ComboBox working/This is the code I use:

public class PreferencesPanel extends JPanel
{
public PreferencesPanel (MapEditWindow window)
{
super ();

setLayout (new FlowLayout ());

String[] resolutions =
{
"1024x768", "1280x800"

[code]...

The TabbedPane is placed in another JPanel, which is placed in an Fullscreen-Window.

Now, the problem is, that when I start the application and open the "Preferences"-Tab, everything seems normal, I can see the ComboBox and the first entry is selected. But when I click it, instead of opening and offering me more choices, the program crashes and my screen turns black (I'm using OS X, on Windows it would possibly turn white, but I didnt test this out).

Browser Automation / Embedding Into GUI / Attaching To Existing Browser Window

Aug 7, 2014

What best API or whatever you call for browser automation? I mean clicking links, filling forms, gathering sources and other info. I already tried selenium WebDriver. It have all needed functions but there is no feature like attaching code into already opened browser so even doing google search it opens new browser window (opening takes ~5-10secs). Also I believe that there is no way that I could embed that browser into GUI.

Also tried WebSpecs and old Watij but also didnt found any way to attach or embed browser into my GUI.

So what I need is that I could create GUI with embeded browser and bunch of buttons. I click buttons then embeded browser clicks links, gets info etc.

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Making GUI Application Design Extensible

May 5, 2015

I have to create a Swing application for which i haved a set of requirements as,

1. there will be two JPanels ,left and right, on the main JFrame , left frame would contain a JTextField and a submit JButton ,user can enter values 1,2,3 ,in the JTextField and presses the JButton

a. if user enters 1, a JTextField will be shown on right JPanel
b. if user enters 2, a JTextField and a JRadioButton will be shown on right JPanel
c. if user enters 3, a JTextField and a JComboBox will be shown on right JPanel

So I have done that but when my boss sees the code behind this application he told me to make it more extensible i.e. if there is going to be an additional requirement for values 4 or 5 or 6 and so on , then i have to make minimal changes in my code or no change in my code and it should work . how this can be done ? is it possible make such software design ?

public class DesktopApp extends JFrame {
private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
private static final Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(DesktopApp.class);
private JPanel jp, jp2, mainPanel;
private JLabel jl, jl1, jl2, jl3, jl4, jl5;
private JTextField jText, jText2, jText3, jText4;

[Code] ....

What wrong am i doing here in this code which in not considered to be an extensible design ?

Swing/AWT/SWT :: How To Come Up With GUI Application Involving List Component

Feb 1, 2014

I am learning Java on my own and I am taking on very small project by myself for fun, and I'm just stuck on this small part of the project.
So I have created a text file that contains a small list of toy names and prices, like:

Barbie, 12.95
Lego, 15.99
Hot Wheels, 5.00
Power Rangers, 6.49

And what I would like is my application to read the contents of the file and store the toy names in a list component. And then I want to be able to select a toy name from the list and add it to a shopping cart that is a list component as well. I want to the application to have menu items and buttons to allow me to remove items from the shopping cart, clear the shopping cart of all selections, and check out. When I check out, the application should calculate and display the subtotal of all the toy names in the shopping cart, the sales tax (which can just be 8 percent of the subtotal), and the total.

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Application That Displays A Frame Containing Two Panels

May 9, 2014

I'm having trouble with this program. In my textbook it says "Write an application that displays a frame containing two panels. Each panel should contain two images (use four unique images - your choice). Fix the size of the first panel so that both of its images remain side by side. Allow the other panel to change size as needed. Experiment with the size of the window to see the images change orientation. Make sure you understand why the application behaves as it does". I successfully imported the images, but I can't find out anywhere how to allow the second panel to change size with the window.

import java.awt.*;
import javax.swing.*;
public class TwoPanels
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
JFrame frame = new JFrame ("Embedded Images");
frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Resize Application Depending On Screen Resolution

Sep 26, 2014

I developed a swing application using group layout. It resizes when I resize the frame but when I change the screen resolution or when I run the application in a laptop which has small sized screen, the components over lap each other. I need my application to fit according to the screen resolution

The code is as follows

private void initComponents() {
jComboBox1 = new javax.swing.JComboBox();
jButton1 = new javax.swing.JButton();
jButton2 = new javax.swing.JButton();
jLabel1 = new javax.swing.JLabel();
jLabel2 = new javax.swing.JLabel();
jLabel3 = new javax.swing.JLabel();

[Code]...

According to the list item selected, an internal frame will appear in the desktop pane. I use group layout for that internal frame too.
