FileWriter - Printing Some Text To TXT File
Oct 10, 2014
I am having an issue with using FileWriter to print some text to a text file. In the following code, I am supposed to be able to print the initial attributes and the user changed inputs into a file but all I am getting is the memory locations of the objects I created in one long line.
package project3final;
import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;
public class Project3Final {
static class Instrument {
char [] stringNames = {'E', 'A', 'D', 'G', 'B', 'E'};
private final String instrumentName;
[Code] ....

I am using netbeans to create a hotel booking system, just tessting out code to get the booking information input to a file when the next button is clicked.
File file = new File("file.txt");
try (BufferedWriter br = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(file))) {
br.write("################################");
br.newLine();
br.write(" Booking Information");
br.newLine();
br.newLine();;
br.write("First Name: " + TxtName.getText());
} catch (IOException ex) {
Logger.getLogger(Main.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
}
Nothing is getting wrote to the file though. Does that code seem right?

I have to write a program that reads data from a file and prints only certain things. The file contains author names and book title names separated by "@" as the delimiter. We need to return only the books written by a certain author.
Here is an example of the text file (database.txt)
Doe@Jane@The West Wind
Smith@John@11 days and nights
Smith@Ken@Java Programming
Johnson@Jim@Web Development
Doe@Jane@The last day
Tolstoy@Leo@Data Structures
Wilson@Helen@Math Theory .....
This is the code I have so far:
import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;
public class Driver {
public static void main(String[] args) {
new Driver(args[0]);
} public Driver(String f) {
[Code] ....
I have everything written to record the names and titles of the authors and books, however I am unsure as to how to print ONLY the books written by Jane Doe. Could I possibly put it into a for loop with an if statement saying "if(firstName == "Jane" && lastName == "Doe")" then System.out.print the book title?

I am using JSTL library in my jsp. Previously, I was directly printing the text in JSP without using JSTL and it was printing fine.
My text is : Server Down, can't perform operation.
I was getting this error message from my backend code and was able to print this successfully. However, after using JSTL, doing like this:
pageContext.setAttribute("error", someObject.getError());
<c:out value="${error}" />
Here, c refers to <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" prefix="c" %>
This is now printing the encoded form of the apostrophe char : Server Down, can't perform operation.

I have a program that reads lines of text, but some of the lines of text aren't applicable and break the program. I'd like to put a letter in front of the lines in the .txt file I want to use, such as a #.
I need to make an if loop that'll check for the first letter on the line being #, and use the line in the program if true and skip if false. I'm guessing a boolean variable would be useful here to be true or false depending on the presence of #, but I don't know how to only read the first letter of each line, how can I do this?

If you print (eg a JTable) from Java/Swing and choose "Adobe PDF" as the printer, you get an Acrobat file. But the PDF isn't searchable because the text has already been rendered by Java before Adobe PDF gets to see it. Is there a way to make printing use a more high-level interface to the printer driver so that the text is left intact?

I am checking how to do following task.
01. pickup the selected text file and read the line by line and output the text in to visual text pane.
what i did:.
01. I wrote code that read the text file and output in to jave console/ also some of the interface.
the code read txt file:
Java Code:
String fileName = "C:/Users/lakshan/Desktop/lawyer.txt";
File textFile = new File(fileName);
Scanner in = new Scanner (textFile);
while(in.hasNextLine()){
[code]....
so it will read any text file dynamically and output to the text pane in interface. I think scanner code must be execute after the select the file from the browser and set the scanned result in to variable. then later out put the var as string in some jswing component?

I want to read in a text file(list of Names) using FileReader than Write to another file using FileWriter. Using FileWriter, I only want to write the Name starting with F to a new text file. I have the file reading from one text than writing to another text. The tricky part is filtering the names starting with only F.

I am trying to write a hashset to a text file. Normally, I have no issues with writing to txt as it is simple for me. However, in this case I am absolutely clueless.
A bit of background about the class: it is a hashset of ComputerScientist objects with 2 fields; name, and field of research (and yes, I know what I put to fill up the HashSet does not count, I was only trying to test to see if I could get this to work).
I know the basic setup to use filewriter to save strings to a txt, but I am getting confused with the HashSet element of it.
import java.util.HashSet;
import java.io.FileWriter;
import java.io.IOException;
/**
* Write a description of class ComputerScientistSet here.
*/
public class ComputerScientistSet {
private HashSet<ComputerScientist> computerScientistSet;

Ive been trying to implement the Filewriter to my code. What I want is to have the textfield data written to a text field. Im thinking you have to specify the text field you want to have in the filewriter statement,I've done something like this, Ive used the try catch block.
if (source == jBPay) {
System.out.println("Pay");
{
double dOrderTotal = dTotal*1.2;
jTTotal.setText(Double.toString(dOrderTotal));
jTTotal.setHorizontalAlignment(JTextField.CENTER); // align text field centre
jTotal.setText(String.format("%.2f", dTotal)); // set pay text field to 2 decimal place
[code]...

How to write a new file:
import acm.program.*;
import java.io.*;
import java.io.PrintWriter.*;
import acm.util.*;
import javax.swing.*;
public class PrintWriter extends ConsoleProgram {
public void run() {
try {
PrintWriter wr = new PrintWriter( new FileWriter ("hello.txt") ) ;
wr.println("Hello world!");
wr.close();
} catch (IOException er) {
println("File could not be saved.");
}
}
}
(I added the imports at top myself.) However, I am getting compiler errors for the lines: PrintWriter wr = new PrintWriter( new FileWriter ("hello.txt") ) , which says that the constructor PrintWriter( FileWriter ) is undefined, and
wr.close();, which says close() method is undefined.
Pretty sure the only real problem is that PrintWriter is not accepting the FileWriter as constructor, but I don't see why. I have tried this on machine with JRE 1.4 and it worked as expected, creating new file titled "hello.txt", prints line of "Hello world!" in that file, and saves it to the directory I picked in the dialog. But I can't get it to work on this machine that uses Compiler 1.6, Java Runtime v8u25.
I have also tried using just a string in the parameter for PrintWriter, such as PrintWriter wr = new PrintWriter ("hello.txt") , and from what I can tell by reading the java spec for java 8, this should work. [URL] .... But I get error message for that constructor as well.

I am having a bit of difficulty understanding/Using FileWriter. Now by my understanding in the API FileWriter allows to use write at the end of your file, if you have text in there already, correct?
I have a file with people info in it. And I created a GUI which allows people to input that data.
Java Code:
File file = new File("People.txt");
FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(file);
People p = new People(firstName, lastName, email, sex));
fw.append(p);
fw.close() mh_sh_highlight_all('java');
Now, I keep getting an error on the fw.append(p)
Java Code:
The method append(CharSequence) in the type Writer is not applicable for the arguments(People) mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

I inserted ShowMessageDialog in the same cycle in order to see what are the results of the calculations that are supposed to appear in the output file, and I see that the results are fine.
Here is some of the code:
XML Code: BufferedWriter bwLink = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter("." + ToolKit.fileSeparator() + OUTPUT_FILE_LINK));
bwLink.close();

PrintWriter outLink = new PrintWriter(new BufferedWriter(

I'm trying to have the program create a .txt file for me but it is not working properly. It just keeps printing the exception error "The file could not be found" and exits the program.
// This program asks the user for input for a name, phone number and notes up to 200 entries.
// It stores every contact in a file. Type 'h' for help while running this program.
import java.util.Scanner;
import java.io.*;
public class Phonebook {
static Entry[] entryList = new Entry[200];
static int numEntries;
public static void main(String[] args) {
[Code] ....
After running the code, I go into my workspace folder and I see that the file was created. What to do because running the program will always print "could not find the file".

I'm supposed to add characters to a stack and pop them once the adjacent delimiter is read in from a text file. Moreover, program is supposed to print out the incoming text from the file, but stop when the applicable delimiter is not on top of the stack. As in, a '[' doesn't have a ']'.
I've got the program so it can pop and add to the stack correctly, and stops adding at the correct time, but I cant seem to get it to stop printing. I know a switch statement method in another class seems obvious, but I was trying to practice nested loops.
This is the main program:
import java.io.*;
import java.util.Scanner;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.util.Stack;
public class DelimiterChecker {
public static void main(String [] args) throws IOException {
[Code] ......
Moreover, the file I'm reading for is simply:
{
System.out.println(1)
System.out.println(2)
System.out.println(6 <-------------missing delimiter
System.out.println(7)
}

I am working on a project that requires me to build a database with random access file, representing products, the base product contains a name (about 30 characters), a price (double), and a quantity (integer). I have worked on this project for probably 15+ hours and have tried so many things and feel like I've barley made any progress...
The part i am really struggling with is taking the data from the text file and creating an object array with it using the product class. Once ive accomplished that, i have to use that data to create a random access file with the data.
Here is the base Product class that must be used to create the objects for the array.
public class Product
{
public String pName;
public String stringName;
public double price;
public int quanity;
[Code] .....
And then here is the data from the text file that i must extract to use to create product objects.
Dill Seed,938,34
Mustard Seed,100,64
Coriander Powder,924,18
Turmeric,836,80
Cinnamon (Ground Korintje),951,10
Cinnamon (Ground) Xtra Hi Oil (2x),614,31
Cinnamon (Ground) High Oil (1X),682,19
These continue for about 40-50 entries, they are not separated by a blank line though i had to add those so it would display correctly, each entry is on its own line with name separated with spaces, then price after a comma, then quantity after the second comma.....

New to programming. Am supposed to create a program that reads a text file (of integers) and computes a series of computations on these integers. I don't have the code for the integers in my code yet, (i know how to do those), but am struggling getting the array to simply print in the print writer. I have the user select a text file, read the file with a scanner, and then save the computations done from my code into another file. specifically, the problem is as follows: Write a program that uses a file chooser dialog to select a file containing some integers. The file contains an integer N followed by N integers. The program then uses a file chooser dialog to let the user specify the name and location of an output file to write results to.The data written to the output file will be as follows
(1) The original list of N numbers from the input file,
(2) The original list of N numbers printed in reverse order of how they appear
in the input file.
(3) The sum and average of these numbers,
(4) The minimum of all the numbers,
(5) The maximum of all the numbers.
