Finding Source Files In Other Directory With Class Path Option
Apr 23, 2015
I'm having another issue. I have 2 java source files(see below). They are place in the same directory. How do I compile them using classpath?
I have already tried 1st attempt :
javac -cp com.companyname.interview.DuplicateReplace.java DuplicateReplaceTest.java [did not work!]
2nd attempt: javac -cp DuplicateReplace.java DuplicateReplaceTest.java [again, did not work!]
package com.companyname.interview;
public class DuplicateReplace { /* code */}

In using javac, I have installed the JDK, set the PATH and JAVA_HOME. When I run this:
"C:Program FilesJavajdk1.8.0_40injavac" -cp C:Gj_javacHTMLCarbonResults.java
I get: javac: no source files
Since I placed the source file path in the command line, I don't understand why it can't find the one .java file.

Can we set the class path for one level down the current directory? My structure is like
binlibresourceshexicon.cmdinside the folder dist.
In this case I could run the .cmd file which has java -cp .;lib;resources client.Test .
c: rycpdist>java hexicon.cmdBut if i put the .cmd file inside bin as like this and run as
c: rycpdistin>java hexicon.cmdI am getting this error Error: Could not find or load main class
Is there any possibility to set the class path in this case

The problem is what to do when the source file for a class gets too big ( a judgment call for sure). Is it possible for one class to be defined in multiple files and if so how do you do it, and is it good practice?
I do see ways to refactor into a base class or move code into a helper class but sometimes the abstraction is cleaner as a single class that does a lot of stuff. My problem is how to organize a BIG class?

My problem is that I want to load an Image from the source directory in Canavas' paint() method.
My code is currently (in a try/catch)
g.drawImage(ImageIO.read(new File(imageLocation)), imageX, imageY, null);
Where imageLocation leads to an image on my HDD ("C:UsersVladdeDocumentsFolders-Filesfolder.png")

I need to write the exact directory path like C:LisaestUpdate to a properties file.
I am trying it by
FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(test.properties);
Properties props = new Properties();
props.load(in);
in.close();
FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(newprop.properties);
props.setProperty("myDirectory","C:Lisa estUpdate" );
props.store(out, null);
out.close();
but the properties file is updated as C:Lisa estUpdate
Extra comes before :.
How can I remove that.
Even I tried it with an command but got same output.

I have a 2D array that is of type int[][]. it is populated with 1's and 0's. I need to create a method that allows me to search from the top row finding a possible path to the bottom--the path is a path of connecting cells containing 1. I need to create an array that stores the cells that are needed to be searched. When the search carries out, for each cell stored it needs to check the cells to the left, right, below and above the current cell.
I also need to create a variable to store the current cell. I thought initially it would be an int but it can't be because it needs to hold the the index of the current cell. and any of the cells searched that are an immediate neighbour of the current cell are added to the storage array.
I have these instructions but I am having trouble converting into code
Finding a path through vegetation from the top row to the bottom row: The idea is we will start from a cell in the top row and advance below for as long as we can. Since we are still not done exploring a cell until we have explored ALL it’s vegetation neighbors, we will add the cell to an array of cellsToExplore and only come back to it if the current cell we are examining is fully explored. Here is pseudo-code of the algorithm !
• Create array cellsToExplore (what size should this array be?)!
• Create an integer count that stores the number of cells in cellsToExplore!
• Go through the top row and add ALL vegetation cells to cellsToExplore!
• Create a variable to store currentCell we are exploring and set it to null.!
• while count > 0 do!
- set currentCell to the last cell in cellsToExplore (last cell added to the array).!
- label currentCell as burning vegetation!
- If the currentCell is on the bottom row then we return true (we found the path).!
- if the cell below currentCell is vegetation then add the cell below to the cellsToExplore array.!
- else if cell to the right of currentCell is vegetation then add the cell to the right to cellsToExplore!
- else if cell to the left of currentCell is vegetation then add the cell to the left to cellsToExplore!
- else if cell above the currentCell is vegetation then add the cell above to cellsToExplore.!
- else remove the currentCell from the cellsToExplore (we are done with this cell). !
• Return false!

I'm using a PrimeFaces UploadedFile xhtml page to select a csv file to read and write using a managed bean (SuperCSVParser.java). The file is read and written to an entity class which then persists the data to a database. The application works fine if I specify a file path on the physical server and select a csv file on that file path. But for the production version I want the user to select ANY file name from ANY directory on their local system.
I know about the FacesContext methods and I've looked at some methods from the java.io File class. Most of these methods are about getting the path from the server, where I want to 'pass' the path String from the client machine to allow the uploaded file to go through. When I try with the below code I get:
java.io.FileNotFoundException: data.csv (The system cannot find the file specified)
I'd like to know what I'm doing as I prefer not to explicitly declare a path in the final app. I'm almost sure that's possible.
<h:form enctype="multipart/form-data">
<p:fileUpload value="#{SuperCsvParser.file}"
mode="simple"
auto="true"
[Code].....

In my program I have to get directory name&address, in this directory is none, one, or more *.txt(maybe not *.txt files) and I have to read info from all of them.
On C++ is very easy to do that with "findnext, find last, findfirst", so how can I do this in Java?

Requirements - Use only standard Java API and no apache file utils for this.
Most of the answers I found on the internet either dont meet this requirement or load all file names into an array which can consume too much memory when no. of files = 20,000+. how I can do this. Is there also a way to keep track of new files that were added during the execution of the loop in this code ?

ensureFileIsVisible not working.
JFileChooser fileChooser = new JFileChooser();
fileChooser.setCurrentDirectory(new File(currentDirectory));
File f = new File(currentDirectory);
ArrayList<String> names = new ArrayList<>(Arrays.asList(f.list()));
for (String s : names)
if (s.startsWith(yearofIssueTXT.getText())) {
fileChooser.setSelectedFile(new File(s));
fileChooser.ensureFileIsVisible(fileChooser.getSelectedFile());
break;
}
int result = fileChooser.showOpenDialog(addNewCoinBody);
The file is not visible because it is at almost the end of the files in the directory. I want the filechooser to automatically scroll so that the file is seen in the list.

I am looking for a way to compile Java Source-Files at runtime and save them all in an executable jar; almost like an IDE would do. I know that there is the javax.tools package which provides a JavaCompiler interface and you can use ToolProvider.getSystemJavaCompiler() to get an instance of a compiler. However, this method has one important problem: it only works on machines that have the JDK installed. Not when only the JRE is installed.
I guess at this point that I need some kind of third party library that offers an implementation of a JavaCompiler. Unfortunately, this is really complicated to search for on the internet since all top listings when searching "compile java at runtime jre" do not really provide a solution to the problem.
I am writing a (somewhat) complex simulation software right now which is supposed to be used by people who have absolutely no knowledge of programming. At the same time, this software should provide the user with a certain amount of flexibility and control over the flow of the simulation.
My previous take on this problem was to build a complex system to interprete user settings from a GUI. I would basically read the GUI input, output it to some kind of own scripting syntax which I just quickly made up and have that interpreted at runtime. Then I realized, that is a silly concept and I threw it out before I got far into the developement.
The much better solution I came up with is taking the input from the GUI, create java source code from it and compile it at run-time. Seems much cleaner and nicer to me; will also probably have a better performance, but thats not really an issue anyways.

How can I Cache the data I'm reading from a collection of text files in a directory using a TreeMap? Currently my program reads the data from several text files in a directory and the saves that information in a text file called output.txt. I would like to cache this data in order to use it later. How can I do this using the TreeMap Class? These are the keys,values: TreeMap The data I'd like to Cache is (date from the file, time of the file, current time).

String output = "C:Filesoutput.txt";

I have a directories in UNIX:
/home/t_bmf/Java/HelloWorld/src/helloworld :will contain a .java file
/home/t_bmf/Java/HelloWorld/bin :will contain all .class file
Let say a have a code:
package helloworld;
public class HelloWorld {
public static void main(String[] arg) {
System.out.println("Hello World");
}
}
a command to compile this even outside the directory /home/t_bmf/Java/HelloWorld/src/helloworld
javac -d /home/t_bmf/Java/HelloWorld/bin /home/t_bmf/Java/HelloWorld/src/helloworld/HelloWorld.java
This will generate a directory /home/t_bmf/Java/HelloWorld/bin/helloworld and file inside this is HelloWorld.class
To run this program I must be in directory /home/t_bmf/Java/HelloWorld/bin and using this command:
java helloworld.HelloWorld
Question:
I already how to run the HelloWorld.class, but I must be in helloworld /home/t_bmf/Java/HelloWorld/bin to run it. Is there's a way to run the class even when I am not in directory /home/t_bmf/Java/HelloWorld/bin? Let's say I'm in /home/t_bmf, can I still run the HelloWorld.class?

this is the following task i am trying to do. Write an interface Directory to manipulate entries in a telephone directory for the University. The interface must support the following operations:
1) The ability to insert new entries into the directory. Entries should be stored in alphabetical order of surname.
2) Delete entries from the directory either by name or number
3) Provide a lookup method that will find the extension no of a member of staff given
his/her name. You should try to make this method run as efficiently as possible.
4) Change a person's telephone number
5) Print the telephone directory in a neatly tabulated fashion.
Write a class ArrayDirectory that implements this interface using an array to store the telephone directory information. The class must store the surname and initial for each member of staff and their telephone extension (a four digit number which may start with a zero). You may find it useful to define a class Entry to store information about individual entries. The entries should be read into the array from a text file consisting of multiple lines in the following format:
Surname<tab>Initials<tab>Telephone extension
The part that i am stuck on is trying to do the entry method, delete entries method, loop up method, change persons telephone number and be able to print it.

"If you define a public class or an interface in your class, then it should match the name of the java source code file."
Does the statement above mean the following should compile fine ?
public class Animal{
public class Animal{ }
}
The author gives an example saying that if you have a class Multiple.java and in that class, you have:
public class Multiple{}, then it should compile.
But this does not compile. I tried it.

I am having hard time to grasp the concept of java as i am beginner. according to different sources found in internet, only one class is written in one source file. and all those class can be accessed through the main class.
my question is
1.can we access one class present in one source file, through another class present in another source file [not through the class containing main method]?
2.can we create more than 1 class in same source file?is there special way to do it? i do get error always when i try to do so
3.can multiple classes contain main method? or should there be only single class containing it?
