In theory I understand how it work, you take the first element in the array, compare it again the rest of the array and any time it occurs in the array you increment a counter by 1. Then move onto the next element A[1] and so on...
This is what I've done so far :

Counting The Frequency Of Numbers Inside A Text File
Apr 7, 2014I have a source code here that counts the frequency of alphabetic characters and non-alphabetic characters (see the source code below).

But, let's just say that now I have the following characters in the text file, "letternumberfrequency.txt":

The numbers inside that text file would be considered as strings, am I right? But I want to extract the numbers so that I can also be able to count their frequency - not as individual digits but as whole numbers (that is how many "71", "83", "58", "64", etc. are there...). Would using "Double.parseDouble ()" work?

Apr 4, 2014Design and implement an application that creates a histogram that allows you to visually inspect the frequency distribution of a set of values . The program should read in an arbitrary number of integers that are in the range 1 to 100 inclusive; then produce a chart similar to the one below that indicates how many input values fell in the range 1 to 10, 11 to 20, and so on. Print one asterisk for each value entered.
No input prompt
Terminate input by typing CTRL/Z (two keys typed at the same time) on a separate input line (use CTRL/D on Linux/UNIX systems)
Use hasNextInt() to terminate your input
Format as below (slightly different from the text example)

Sorting Arrays - Order From Greatest To Smallest Based On Frequency

I have currently two arrays.

int[] freq = {2,4,3}; mh_sh_highlight_all('java');
I am looking for a way to order these from greatest to smallest based on frequency.
The resulting arrays should be:

freq = {4,3,2}; mh_sh_highlight_all('java');
Because b is most frequent, and a is least frequent.
One way I can think of doing this is a two dimensional String array
Java Code: String[][] fullHold = {{"b","c","a"},{"4","3","2"}}; mh_sh_highlight_all('java');
Then sort based on the character values of the second row.
How can I sort a two dimensional array based on a single row (where it will rearrange the other rows in accordance).
Binary Tree - Storing Each Word As String And Int Frequency For Each Time Word Occurs
Apr 27, 2015I have built a binary tree, from a file. In each node, I am storing each word as a string, and an int frequency for each time the word occurs. For the assignment, I need to find how many words occur only once in the file. I wrote the program, but for some reason I am getting a number different from what my professor is expecting.
As far as I know, this file has loaded into the tree correctly, because all of my other answers in the assignment are correct. What am I doing wrong?

Dec 3, 2014I have assigned random numbers to an 2D array, and I had to write a method that prompts the user for a number between 100 and 200. If that number is in the array, it should return 1. If not, 0. It only stays 0 though, even when the number matches one of the numbers in the array.

Finding GCF Of Two Numbers

Finding Space In String
Jan 19, 2015I have an assessment for college, the part of my code that im struggling with is the part where the user enter their first name followed by a space and then their second name. I m using ---------------fullname = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("enter your firstname followed by a space then your second name " ); ------------- to capture this. the issue is if the user only enter 1 name I need to output an error. the issue is I cant find a way to tell if the user entered a second name. This is what I have so far:

My problem is that when I enter 5,2,5 it should be isosceles and acute but it comes out as isosceles and obtuse, and when I type 5,5,5 it comes out equilateral and right. The only one that works is if I enter 3,5,4 it will come out as scalene and right. I been at this for a while and my math looks correct.

Subset - Finding Smallest Possible Sum
Aug 2, 2014I'm trying to apply a subset problem without using O(n^2) complexity. I need to find the smallest possible sum between 2 sets of 2 numbers in a lists so n1 + n2 = n3 + n4 = sum.
I have found solutions that all involve having the sum first and just finding the two pairs which involves using a hash table and then taking each number and subtracting it off the sum and looking for possible combinations.
How to do it if nothing but the list of numbers is given. So no sum and no hint of the pairs.
I put this in the Java section because I'm doing it in Java and there seems to be no generic algorithm/programming Topic area.
