The Font style constants are of int: int[] fontStyleList = new int[] {Font.PLAIN, Font.BOLD, Font.ITALIC};But what do I do when I want to add the names such as PLAIN etc. as the name of a menu item?
The following is not going to work, right!String[] parts = (fontStyleList[i].toString()).split("."); or String[] parts = ("" + fontStyleList[i]).split(".");rbStyle = new JRadioButtonMenuItem(parts[1]);
Is there another way to do this or should I just do another array with the names as a String?
public class C4 { // instance variables - replace the example below with your own public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println((char)41); } }
I wanted to check that the integer 41 is 'A' in UTF-8, although it's ')' in UTF-16 , so I ran the program with javac -encoding UTF-8 C4.java but the result was still ')'.
How do i fix this? Also, do constants for the max values of ASCII and UTF-8 exist in Java? I need to show how many number of bits are used to represent characters in both encodings.
I just started Java programming bout 3wks ago and using jGrasp since then. But ive started using eclipse and just wondering if it can be set up to use allman style? I dont like having to use tab and backspace to get my brackets in line and neat. I decided to ask before i went snooping around the settings and mess something up since im not to familiar with it right now.
I have a routine that returns a boolean. If any of a series of tests fails, the routine returns false, otherwise it returns true. For example, the routine might test for whether or not an integer is both odd and greater than 99, thus:
public boolean oddAndOld(int x) { if (x % 2 == 0) return false; if (x < 100) return false; return true; }
I like the above because it suggests that "true" is the condition that applies if the incoming parameter meets all the required criteria. But I've sometimes seen this style used:
public boolean oddAndOld(int x) { if (x % 2 == 0) return false; if (x < 100) return false; else return true; }
I like this less because, among other things, if that last criterion is removed, the "else/return true" must be moved up into the immediately preceding test (or else leave some funny whitespace, depending on how you go about removing the departing "if" statement), but it does avoid suggesting that "return true" is hard-coded (that is, it reinforces that "true" is a conditional return value, not inevitable).
I am using the Javafx 8 Date Picker. Its works fine. I have defined a stylesheet for my application and in that style sheet i have a style for Button. I apply this style to the every scene. Now my question is: When I use the datepicker and I click on the calendar icon, the datepicker popup appears and the left and right arrows adjacent to month and year fields in the seems to pick the style of the button class from style sheet defined in my application., Is there a way to avert this and tell datepicker to use default styles and not the styles defined my application.
I tried removing the style at runtime from the scene, but of no use.
I've been into java for about 4 months now, No complaints so far, it's pretty awesome! So I understand Polymophism pretty good, I did some Animal classes and it worked out neatly.
However. I just can't seem to find my way in OOP when trying to implement in on a Calculator Class I wrote. As you mind know, a calculator can be separated into many classes. But I actually just want it to be separated into some OO like: | Calculator | CalcGUI | CalculatorFunctions | CalcRun.
I tried separating the single Calculator class, however, my calculator Buttons didn't work after that, anymore..
I have a column of my TableView that just shows row numbers, and I would like to style the cells in that column so that they appears just like a column header (so the same styling as the headers use). I presume there is some simple way to do this by tapping into the right style class, but I am not sure which one.
I'm attempting to make a simple Pythagorean Theorem program (A squared + B squared = C squared) but am running into problems when I write it as object oriented. The darn thing works when written as a simple process, but that isn't Java now is it? Here's the simple:
public class PythagoreanTheorem extends ConsoleProgram { public void run() { println ("Finding C from A and B."); double a1 = readDouble("Input A: "); double b1 = readDouble("Input B: "); double aSq = (a1*a1); double bSq = (b1*b1); double cSq = (aSq + bSq); double c = Math.sqrt(cSq); println ("C = " + c);
I am new to applets and I am trying to create a program to display color and font. See my code below, I am getting some errors below.
import java.awt.Graphics; //program uses class Graphics import javax.swing.JApplet; //program uses class JApplet import javax.swing.JOptionPane; //program uses class JOptionPane public class AdditionApplet extends JApplet { private double sum; //sum of values entered by user private double average; //average of values entered by user
[Code] .....
java:11: error: cannot find symbol Color skyBlue; ^ symbol: class Color location: class AdditionApplet java:12: error: cannot find symbol Font sansFont;
I am quite familiar with using JOptionPane and its various displayXDialog() methods and reasonably familiar with changing fonts.
I have a JOptionPane.displayMessageDialog() that is working fine but I decided to make the font larger.
I found an example from which I coded:
Font font = UIManager.getFont("OptionPane.font"); UIManager.put("OptionPane.font", new Font(font.getName(), font.getStyle(), 24)); font = UIManager.getFont("OptionPane.font"); JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(this, "Welcome to Mover", "About Mover", -1); // no icon
After the UIManager.getFont() call after the UIManager.put() call, font shows the new font size of 24, but the showMessageDialog() dialog still has the default font.
And yes I understand that, when this works, it will affect every JOptionPane in my program.
I also tried:
Font font = UIManager.getFont("OptionPane.font"); JOptionPane message = new JOptionPane("Welcome to Mover", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE); JDialog dlg = message.createDialog("About Mover");
[Code] ....
This gave me a dialog with the default font and an unwanted icon.
So I tried
// both Font font = UIManager.getFont("Dialog.font"); // and Font font = UIManager.getFont("JDialog.font");
and planned to use that font in my setFont() call but font was null.
How do i set a random font in java and random position on screen. I've got random color but cannot get the font and position to change except for two times.
import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.*; import java.util.Random; import java.awt.event.ActionEvent; import java.awt.event.ActionListener; public class JChangeSizeAndColor extends JPanel implements ActionListener { private Random generator;
It's very simple, I've added an AWT component/control (specifically a Choice object to a Frame. It's a pop-up menu by any other name.
Above the pop-up, there's a label. I'm trying to change its font to no success.
* I create Label object called label1: Label label1 = new Label("This is a pop-up") * I create a Font object called f: Font f = new Font("Times New Roman, Font.BOLD, 18) * I apply the new font to the label: (in AFrame's constructor) label1,setFont(f)
When displayed the label's font seems to be stuck on Arialor something similar. Changing the point size however does have an effect.
import java.awt.Choice; import java.awt.event.ItemEvent; import java.awt.event.ItemListener; /** * Defines a 'pop-up' AWT control that will be added to AFrame. * It extends Choice - I may need extra functionality later. */
public class APopUp extends Choice implements ItemListener { // instance variables int noi; // no of items String selected; // item selected from choice
I am having some troubles with a program fileviewer where you must be able to change font style and size when pressing JButton "Set font". I have solved the most of the program and every menu button is working but I don't know how to set in FileListener class method to change the font when running in main class. Anyway, this is my FileListener class
Java Code:
import java.awt.*; import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.io.*; import java.util.*; import java.awt.Font; public class FileListener implements ActionListener
I'm trying to display a phrase in every font size from 6 thru 20. As it stands now, the code below cascades the phrase, sort of, down the frame, but the font size doesn't change.
import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import javax.swing.*; public class JFontSizes extends JFrame implements ActionListener { JButton button = new JButton("Press Me"); String aPhrase = new String("This is a phrase.");
I wish to print the content of a JTextArea. I know I can do this with textarea.print(). However, I wish to print in a different font, font size and orientation from that of the JTextArea itself. I have been able to change the orientation by setting print attributes
PrintRequestAttributeSet printAttributes = new javax.print.attribute.HashPrintRequestAttributeSet (); printAttributes.add(javax.print.attribute.standard .OrientationRequested.LANDSCAPE);
And then using the textarea.print() method that allows me to set attributes. However, I haven't found any way to set the font and font size.
So, I have a game. I would like to make a game where you press "start" and THEN it starts. Also, I want to have collision with triangles, not just squares. The way I handle collision right now is with if statements, if the object is within the other, game over.How would I do collision with triangles? Lastly, how do I set a high score? how to change fonts and font size in swing?
I am having problem with the JRadio Buttons to change the font color in my code. What needs to be done? Also if I were to connect this GUI to another GUI and save font colors, how would I go about that?
I'm working on Java-GUI implementation in Ubuntu. Used font-type in the application throughout is "Arial". At earlier stage of application it was the same font-type("Arial"). As the implementation grew the font-type has been changed automatically to another font type. It seems Serif-font type.
Now I could not able to figure out the problem; why it is so.
Note- I used HTML code also for setting font style of Dialog box messages and buttons. This is the only point which I figured out. Can it is ?
How can I write a method that takes a string with duplicates letters and returns the same string which does not contain duplicates. For example, if you pass it radar, it will return rad. Also i would like to know how can I Write a method that takes as parameters the secret word and the good guesses and returns a string that is the secretword but has dashes in the places where the player has not yet guessed that letter. For example, if the secret word is radar and the player has already guessed the good guesses letters r and d, the method will return r-d-r.
I am currently trying to make a calculator in Java. I want to use the String split method to tokenize the string of characters inputted. I thought I was using the String split method wrongly, because I had surrounded the characters I wanted to delimit with square brackets. However, when I removed the square brackets, the code threw an exception when I pressed the equal button. The exception was a PatternSyntaxException exception. Am I using the String split method wrongly? And why is the exception thrown? Here is my code:
import javax.swing.*;//import the packages needed for gui import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.util.Arrays; import java.util.List; import static java.lang.Math.*; public class CalculatorCopy { public static void main(String[] args) {
i am trying to write a class method which will take in a string and returns a string which is the reversed version of that string. it compiles fine but when i try to run it it states Main method not found in class StringReverse,please define the main method as public static void main(String[]args). I am new to java and cannot figure out
import javax.swing.JOptionPane; public class StringReverse { public String reverseString(String str){ JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null,"Please enter word"); char c = str.charAt(str.length()-1); if(str.length() == 1) return Character.toString(c); return c + reverseString(str.substring(0,str.length()-1));}}
