Get Data From Config File And Store In Array Without Using Split Method
May 8, 2014
How i can get the data from a file, for a key that have multiple values without using split method and i want to store that data in an array
file name:"new.txt"[contains below data]
Name=google.com, yahoo.com,facebook.com
Attachment=abc1,abc2,abc3
I am successfully able to do this using following code
Properties props = new Properties();
String configFilePath = (Cjava_confignew.txt);
props.load(new FileReader(configFilePath));
String TestName = props.getProperty(Name);
String test[] = TestName.split(,);
Now i just want to store the values for key "Name" in array without using TestName.split(,); but i am not able to do this.
I have also used .yml file to avoid this but did not succeed, some way to do this
file name test.yml
Name
-google.com
-yahoo.com
-facebook.com
Attachment
-abc1
-abc2
-abc3
i want to store multiple values for single key(Name) within the array

public class InputFileData {
/**
* @param inputFile a file giving the data for an electronic
* equipment supplier’s product range
* @return an array of product details
* @throws IOException
*/
public static Product [] readProductDataFile(File inputFile)
throws IOException{
// YOUR CODE HERE
}
This code is meant to be used to read a text file and store the data in an array of type Product[]. I know how to read in a text file and have it sort it into an array, but I've never seen code laid out in this fashion before (specifically "public static Product[]", and I'm unsure how to work with "(File inputfile)". I've looked all over the place but can't find any examples of anything like this.
Also, the code given cannot be changed, as it's that code I have to work with.
I still don't understand how to use it as a whole. For example, do I read the file in the main and have this method read that in and output to the Product class? Do I read the file in this method? I can't work out how to make this work when I have to use this method.

I've found different examples on line, but none that use the split method with a multidimensional array. I would like a user to input coordinates (x,y) for city locations and store them into a 2-D array. For the user to input the x,y-coordinates on one line I need to use split(',') and then parse the string array to a double which will then be used to calculate the distances from one another.
My issue is how to store the String vales into the 2-D array. I do not want to store the x-value at even (cityArray[0]) and y-value at odd (cityArray[1]) 1-D locations.

So I need to generate 10 random integers in the range 1-20 but i have to store them in an array called numbers. Then I have to call a method called displayArray which displays the contents of the array and for the assignment i have to use a for loop to traverse the array. The method header for the displayArray method is:
public static void displayArray(int[] array)
This is what I have done
public class RandomIntegers {
static int numbers = 0;
public static void displayArray(int[] array) {
System.out.println(numbers + "Numbers Generated");

I am having a problem with the following code. It compiles and runs fine however my output is wrong.
public class SplitString {
public static void main(String[] args) {
String[] string1 = split("ab#12#453", "#");
String[] string2 = split("a?b?gf#e", "[?#]");
for (int i = 0; i < string1.length; i++) {
System.out.print(string1[i] + ",");
[code]....
The split method in the String class returns an array of strings consisting of the substrings split by the delimiters. However, the delimiters are not returned. Implement the following new method that returns an array of strings consisting of the substrings split by the matching delimiters, including the matching delimiters.public static String[] split(String s, String regex)For example, split("ab#12#453", "#") returns ab, #, 12, #, 453 in an array of String, and split("a?b?gf#e", "[?#]") returns a, b, ?, b, gf, #, and e in an array of String.

For example, if I had a text file with one line such as "first, second, third", would there be a way to make it so I could make "first" go to the first array list, "second" to the second, and "third" to the third?
I haven't posted any of my code so far as it wouldn't be right to be handed the finished code on a platter and I should put the work into it, but I'd just need a loop to make it go through the rest of the lines in the text file to add all the first, second and third parts of each line, right?
(I already know how to input data from a file, but not how to split up a line into bits to put into different array lists).

When I am trying to rename a config file, ApplicationEdition.txt, I am getting pop up window message "This action can not be completed because the file is open in Java(TM) Platform SE Binary. Close the file and try again." What does this message mean ? How do I close this file, if I don't see it open anywhere ? This file has been used when a cmd was executed, but that cmd has run successfully and its not stuck anywhere then how can this file still be open ?

I am trying to create a bukkit plugin. I need to be able to read from a separate config file but do not know how.
I am trying to use a JSON parser to read from a file but I only need a specific line of the file. Would this work?:
JSONParser parser = new JSONParser();
Object obj = parser.parse(new FileReader("/plugins/easyRace/config.yml"));
JSONObject jsonObject = (JSONObject) obj;
String Races = jsonObject.get(var "Races:");

I have a file called statecapitals.txt that is read in, I want to store it in either a 2d array or hashmap and select a random state then Ask the user for the name of the capital. Then I want to Let them know if they are correct or not and have a choice to play as many times as they like. When they no longer want to play,I want to let them know how many they got correct and how many incorrect. I am not sure which would be better a hash map or 2d array and dont know where to start with each.
here is what the text file looks like:
Alabama - Montgomery
Alaska - Juneau
Arizona - Phoenix
Arkansas - Little Rock
California - Sacramento
Colorado - Denver

So I am trying to open a file and store the contents into a two dimensional array. I seem to have no problem using this same basic code to read the file and output it. But when I try to change it so that all the data is stored into the array, it does not work.
Java Code:
public void convertFile()
{
String filePath = ("C:UsersBradDownloadsFB1.csv");
String [][] rowCol = new String [429][6];
try
{
BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(filePath));
StringTokenizer st = null;
System.out.println("Your file is being converted to an array. This may take several minutes.");

The point of this program is to read characters from a txt file and store them into a 2D array. After this has been accomplished, the information is to be printed in the same manner it is read from in the txt file.
Here is the code I have so far:
import java.io.File;
import java.io.FileNotFoundException;
import java.util.Scanner;
public class Main
{
public static void main(String[] args) throws FileNotFoundException
[Code] ....
And this is the error I am receiving when trying to accomplish the goal of the project:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "############"
at java.lang.NumberFormatException.forInputString(Unk nown Source)
at java.lang.Integer.parseInt(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Integer.parseInt(Unknown Source)
at Maze.<init>(Maze.java:15)
at Main.main(Main.java:20)
What's going on here and how I can correct this?? The information I am trying to store in a 2D array and then print is this:
############
#.#........#
#.#.######.#
#.#....#...#
#.###.*#.#.#
#...####.#.#
#.#.#..#.#.#
#.#.#.##.#.#

The main method will drive your program by doing the following:
-Create an array to hold all the individual golfers and par scores (type is Golfer[ ]).
-Prompt the user for a data file containing the Par scores and the player names and score. The format of the input file should look like
Par, 3, 4, 4, 3, 4, 3, 5, 3, 4
George, 3, 3, 4, 3, 4, 2, 3, 3, 4
Paul, 4, 5, 4, 3, 6, 3, 4, 3, 5
Ringo, 3, 3, 4, 3, 4, 2, 4, 3, 4
John, 4, 4, 4, 3, 4, 2, 5, 3, 4
Your program should read the file contents and store the information in your array of Golfers.

So I'm creating a class which when given three inputs uses them as sides of a triangle and tells ther user what type of triangle it is, or if the input is invalid, tells them why it is invalid. I'm readin the input as a string and then trying to split it into a string array, from there checking to see if it has 3 elements.. in which the data is good at that point, and then converting them to ints and checking to see if they're negative ansd finally checking to see if they can work as sides of a triangle ie a+b >c, a+c >b , b+c >a.
I'm trying to split it into an array of strings but am getting an error, and can't seem to figure out why as this should be working from what I've read of the string.split method online.
import java.util.*;
public class TriangleTest{
private int sideA;
private int sideB;
private int sideC;
public static void main(String[] args){
TriangleTest triangle = new TriangleTest("3 4 5");
[Code] ....
The output reads [Ljava.lang.String;@15db9742

New to programming. Am supposed to create a program that reads a text file (of integers) and computes a series of computations on these integers. I don't have the code for the integers in my code yet, (i know how to do those), but am struggling getting the array to simply print in the print writer. I have the user select a text file, read the file with a scanner, and then save the computations done from my code into another file. specifically, the problem is as follows: Write a program that uses a file chooser dialog to select a file containing some integers. The file contains an integer N followed by N integers. The program then uses a file chooser dialog to let the user specify the name and location of an output file to write results to.The data written to the output file will be as follows
(1) The original list of N numbers from the input file,
(2) The original list of N numbers printed in reverse order of how they appear
in the input file.
(3) The sum and average of these numbers,
(4) The minimum of all the numbers,
(5) The maximum of all the numbers.
[import java.io.File;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.PrintWriter;
import java.io.Writer;

the problem I'm having is I want to use a mutator method to set data for an array element. The code I have so far is:
public void addProduct(String productName)
//Goes through and sets the name of a product and assigns it to the array
{
int index;
for (index = 0; index < product.length(); index++)
{
product[index].setName(productName);
numberOfProducts++;
}
}
The array was initialised like this:
Product[] product = new Product[3];
And the setName(String) method is just your typical mutator method.However, in Eclipse, I have an error messages. It is:
"-The method setName(String[]) is undefined for the type String" .....

I'm trying to return an array back to main. The array returned to main should contain the reversed random numbers array. I believe I have the array correctly reversed within the 'reverseArray' method. I'm trying to send this array back to main, but it appears to contain empty data (a bunch of zeros).
Java Code:
class ArrToMain {
public static void main(String[] args) {
final int NUMBER_OF_ELEMENTS = 1000;
double[] numbers = new double [NUMBER_OF_ELEMENTS];
//Invoke initialize method
initialize(numbers);

In this exercise, create a program that asks a user for a phrase, then returns the phrase with the words in reverse order. Use the String class's .split() method for this.
Example input
The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain
Example output
plain the on mainly falls Spain in rain The
While I understand the assignment, nowhere in the text is it covered how to reverse the order of the words in the string. I understand using the .split method, but not for this exercise.
Here is my code so far.
import java.util.*;
/**
* Java class SplitString
* This program asks for a phrase, and the code allows the phase to return in reverse order.
*/
public class SplitString {
public static void main (String[] args){
//set phrase input and mixed which will be the result
[Code] ....
As you can see, I have been googling this method and have come up nearly empty. My text does not cover the .reverse() method. The only thing it covers with .split() is how to split a string. I also tried StringBuilder with no success.

I am trying to split the contents of the text file and assign the value on the left of the separator to a variable and the value on the right of the | separator to another variable. Thus I tried out a sample code to print all the values in the split [] first, and ended up with problems. This is the content of the text file:
Crazed Boy|20
Hello|5
MSB|6.5
public class Main {
public static void main(String[] args) {
try {
BufferedReader infile = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("test1.txt"));
for (int i =0; i < 3 ;i++) {
String s = infile.readLine();
String[] ss = s.split("|");
[code]....
I keep getting IOException in my sample code, why is this so ? I assumed the split() method is supposed to output for the 1st iteration:
ss[0] = Crazed Boy
ss[1] = 20

I try this but it splits the single "|" to not just the "||ER||" like I want.
String[] separated = response.split("||ER||");

I used the string split method in the following lines of code like this:
String[] numbers = out.split("[^d.]", 0);
String[] operations = out.split("[.d()]", 0);
When out is equal to the String "2x2.5", the array operations ends up looking like this when it is printed using the toString method:
[, , , x]
As you can see, before the array element x, there are three String variables which only contain whitespace. Why does this occur, and how can I prevent this from happening?

I have a java query like this
query ="Select major_career.Major_Title, career.ISCOTitle,career.FS.... " //only partial,
// I swear the query is correct
resultSet = statement.executeQuery(query); //this executes it
relArr = new ArrayList<String>(); //don't worry it is intialized
In the code below I tried to store the resultset components into the arraylist
int j = 1;
while (resultSet.next()) {
while(j<=numberOfColumns){
relArr.add(resultSet.getObject(j).toString());
j++;
}
} // end while
I am not sure whether the arraylist is able to store the result set because when i try to display it like show below it only shows some rows and only the first column
Iterator it = relArr.iterator();
while (it.hasNext())
{
System.out.println(it.next());
I want to manipulate the resultset results in my program by copying the resultset values to other datastructures.
