Creating an array searcher wherein it all depends on the user input. On the first user input it would be the array to search from while the second input would be something to be searched for inside the loop?

I just started programming yesterday, and I have been making little programs to learn some algorithms and the syntax of java. I tried making a program that could convert metric units into the American system. Whenever I try to compile the code, it shows up as an "incompatible type" error. I know this is probably a very obvious answer to most of you, but I can't figure it out.

Below is all the coding I have done trying to make my own Powerball input system. I am really struggling on how to fix this. I keep getting an ArrayOutOfBounds exception except, I don't know how to fix this to make it where it will check the numbers without screwing up with everything.

I have double checked this code over and over and I just can't find the problem.
What I'm trying to do is take a file and input it into an 2D array.
Ultimately, I should convert the array of integers to an array of characters, then print it out. The file contains a set of ASCII values.
After printing it out, I should then create methods to manipulate the image produced.
Using 2D arrays is a requirement for this exercise.
I think that somehow I'm overcomplicating this and the solution is a lot more simple than I think, but I can't think of what to change.

I do now have the problem where i have to insert the numbers 1 to 100 individually in order to allow the program to accept a grade as high as 100%.
Also as soon as i type in a negative number the system crashes and shows me a error as attached.

I’m trying to write a program in Java that will take the input of a temperature in Fahrenheit and convert it to Celsius and Kelvin. This is what I have so far but when I run the program on Eclipse it says the temp. in Celsius is infinity and the same for kelvin. I am writing a code in which a user inputs data as a string and that data must be verified as a valid number. A valid number is anything from 0-100. Then all valid numbers are converted into double numbers.
I am having trouble in how to write the validation part of the code.
Is it suppose to be an if, else statement? And if so how is it suppose to be validated?
First project here and it has been a steep learning curve. I have some code in the TwoWaySerialComm class that will write to a Com port. In my other class EBIAlarm i have my GUI. The aim of my app is the send strings out of the Com port by pressing Jbutton1-3 I can open the Com port but I don't know how to send the string.

I and a friend are working with a project to create a file system, who manages a secondary memory simulated as a byte array in Java. We want the file system to be a hierarchical tree structure like in UNIX.
We have come quite far, but the paths are not handled correct. I seem to have mistaken the relative folder ./ for the root folder, but it should mean "working directory folder", ie, where I stand now. That is, if I stand in /dir1 as my "working directory" and make mkdir ./dir2 then should dir2 end up as subfolder in dir1. But with me it appears in the root.
I am working on a problem where i have to create a 2d array with given input of the dimensions (odd number) of array, along with a number within the array and to then print out all of the numbers surrounding that number.
Anyway, i am working on simply making the spiral, which should look like the one below.

When I let it run, only every third entry is put into the array list and I have to hit "enter" three times for the "break" in line 21 to trigger. I cannot find out why.

I am trying to do a simple noughts and crosses game. I have displayed a board using a 2 dimensional array and display it using a for loop. The array is of type int. What I want to do is allow the user to choose a specific cell within the array to change to an x or o but I am not sure how to go about doing this. I have seen lots of examples of noughts and crosses online but seem to all be examples of how to check a win or lose situation.how to allow a user to choose certain cells in a 2d array would be great.
