Write a piece of code that would change something in the one of the buttons created using the loop? I have spent few hours reading about the arrays, different methods and can't think or apply a working solution.
import java.awt.*;

import javax.swing.*;
public class C2loops extends JFrame implements ActionListener {
private JButton jBTile, jBClicker;
private JPanel jPLeft, jPRight;

I am doing an multi user chat application, i don't know how to identify the particular pair of user (both end chatting user) among users. and want to send message separately.., which steps i have to fallow, HasMap(); or what is the procedure to achieve my target.
This is my server side program,
Java Code:
import java.util.*;
import java.net.*;
import java.io.*;
public class ChatServer {
Vector<String> users = new Vector<String>();
Vector<HandleClient> clients = new Vector<HandleClient>();
public void process() throws Exception {
ServerSocket server = new ServerSocket(1234);

Im running an eclipse application in my machine. I have two queries
1. I would like to know how to check the default heap size that the jvm is using to run the application.Im using a windows machine to run the java application. I tried to check the default heap size by the following way
ControlPanel--->Programs--->JavaSetting--> JavaTab -->View Button ---> JavaRuntimeEnvironment settings window ---> Userstab --> Value under RuntimeParameters
But in my system, there is no runtime parameters defined. Is there a command that I can execute via command prompt to check the default heap size in my machine.
2. How to increase the heap size parameter and run the eclipse plugin application from command prompt. For eg: To increase the heap size and execute the jar file we use the below command java -Xms64m -jar MyApp.jar. I would like to know how to set heap parameters and execute my java application which is an exe file. I tried to execute use the below command, but the command prompt doesnot recognise the command
java -Xms512m iepsd.exe
Where iepsd.exe is my java application.
how to finds and identifies display devices connected to my computer is monitor or projector. which wmi query to use in windows 7 ?

I am having difficulty with a sorting routine. I believe that the concept is valid (although not necessarily the most efficient), but I keep running into a problem. I am trying to use the compareTo function to identify the relationship between two values in an array, but it seems to have an issue with it being a comparison of two float values.
Java Code:
for (int x = 0; x < 430; x++) {
for (int y = 0; y < 430; y++) {
if (dataArray[y].compareTo(dataArray[y + 1]) > 0); {
tempOpen = dataArray[y];
[Code] ....
It gives the compile error as follows:
File: C:UsersBradDownloadsAssignment 3Calculations.java [line: 157]
Error: Cannot invoke compareTo(float[]) on the array type float[]
So I just processed this rectangular array and made myself a table. I want to put a label for each column to identify what the values are. My attempt at this failed miserably, because it looks horrible. Here is the necessary code.
Java Code:
System.out.println();
System.out.println("FORMATTED RESULTS");
System.out.println(results);
values[rowCount][0] = currency.format(monthlyInvestment);
values[rowCount][1] = percent.format(interestRate/100);
values[rowCount][2] = Integer.toString(years);
values[rowCount][3] = currency.format(futureValue);
rowCount++;
[Code] .....
If you are to compile this yourself, you would see the horrible output at the end. I would like to know how to properly align each label with its corresponding column.

I'm trying to add a KeyListener, but every time i do i have to implement methods that i will not use.
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.KeyEvent;
import java.awt.event.KeyListener;
public class GameFrame extends JFrame implements KeyListener{
private GamePanel panel;
*/
public GameFrame()
[code]....
it works just concerned about the unimplemented methods.I'm supposed to make a row of images all the way across the screeen and down it unless the row contains the player. which is always at the bottom.
private void drawRow(int y, int blockWidth, int blockHeight, GameRow row, Graphics g) {
Image img = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("blocks.png");
for(int i = rows.size()-1; i >= 0; i--) {
if(rows.get(i).isEmpty()) {
g.drawImage(img, width,y,blockWidth, blockHeight, null);
}
}
}
As of right now it will only paste on the FIRST column not the rows.
I'm programming a game, but the keyListener doesn't work. Here is the source code:
import java.awt.event.KeyEvent;
import java.awt.event.KeyListener;
public class InputHandler implements KeyListener{
public InputHandler(Game game) {
game.addKeyListener(this);
[code]....
My Question is: Why will it not say "up", if I press "w"?
I am trying to program a version of the "Worlds Hardest Game" using ready to program and applets for a final class project. Unfortunately I cannot figure out how to get my keylistener to work because I am using a loop for the enemies to go back and forth.
import java.applet.*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
public class HardestGame extends Applet
implements KeyListener, MouseListener {
final int WIDTH = 400;
final int HEIGHT = 123;
int myX = 400;
int myY = 400;

I wrote this program that makes a little square move around with the wasd keys. A huge problem that I had while creating it is adding the keylistener to my JFrame. In the end, I ended up creating an anonymous KeyListener class and adding that anonymous class to the JFrame. However, this anonymous class requires two other methods that I don't use, so any other thing I could have done to add these keylisteners to the JFrame without creating an anonymous class? I had to create 4...

I want to try and run a thread that starts running on start and quits after pressing a key.I cant seem to detect keypresses. ci cant seem to add code: Post denied. New posts are limited by number of URLs it may contain and checked if it doesn't contain forbidden words.
its just a code snippit without links or anything..this is a small part... but how do i add a keyListener in here that listends to a random key?The class implements KeyListener and the overrided method "keyPressed" sets the isRunning boolean to false... but the keyPressed method is never executed.
public static void main(String[] args) {
Thread thread = new Thread() {
public void run() {
while(isRunning){
System.out.println("running");
try {
sleep(1000);
} catch (InterruptedException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
}
};
thread.start();

I am trying to make a program where a ball moves up continuously when you press space, then begins to move down when you reach a certain point. My method for this is to have a timer, and have a method that does this: When you press space, add 10 y coords every second (using a timer), and if you reach 470 y, then begin to drop 10 y coords. I made a method to hold the keylistener, and am running that method inside the actionPerformed method which is within another class. However, since it is a method, I cannot add my keylistener to my frame in the main method.

Java Code: import javax.swing.*;
public class Main {

I start my thread, it's for a real basic game I'm learning. Everything was working fine, until I got to recognizing keys. It runs, and I can close using the mouse on the close command, but the keys aren't being generated from the keyboard. I copied it to a working sample, and here are the two files.
package testkeys;
import java.awt.Canvas;
import java.awt.Dimension;
import java.awt.image.BufferedImage;
import java.awt.image.DataBufferInt;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
[Code] ....
The idea was to set the return value to true if any key is pressed, thus quitting, for this short sample program. Problem, it never recognizes any keys pressed on the keyboard. New to java and threading.
I have a JMenuItem "Find" in the Edit Menu. I want to add a shortcut key to the JMenuItem.
For Find for example i want to use Ctrl + F
Here is my 'Action' for 'Find' which can be used via Edit->Find. It works.
Find = new AbstractAction(){
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){
String word = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(new MainWindow(),"","Find",PLAIN_MESSAGE);
new WordSearcher(textArea,word);
}
};
WordSearcher() is a class i am using to search the word
Now i want to add a KeyListener for ctrl+F, for doing the same purpose. Even this one works.
private KeyListener k1 = new KeyAdapter()
{
public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e)
{
if(e.isControlDown())
{
if(e.getKeyCode()== KeyEvent.VK_F)
[Code] ....
But the problem here is i have to write the same code twice. Is there some way by which I can Use the already written Action Find in the KeyListener.
I'm trying to replicate the rol(rotate left) instruction in assembly though can only get as far as shifting the bits with '<<' or doing Long.rotateLeft(var, 5). Both of these method don't wrap around the bits as the rol instruction does.
View Replies View RelatedI can't find any resource on the net about a simple Java code just to move a gif image left or right. I've already accomplished the up, down, and center and they're working fine, thus, I'm still struggling with moving the image left or right. Here's the code.
public class MoveIt extends Applet implements ActionListener
{
private Image cup;
private Panel keypad;
public int top = 10;
public int left = 10;
[Code] ....
I remember in Visual BASIC it's easily achieved by NameOfImage.left = NameOfImage.left - 10 to move left and NameOfImage.left = NameOfImage.left + 10.
I am having issues with drawing shapes from bottom right to top left.
Issue:
- g.drawRect() will show like I am calling g.fillRect()
- other shapes will not even show the shape in that area
Needs:
- g.drawSHAPE needs to show and not be filled unless I have my fill checkbox selected
The Program:
- Create a JFrame with a draw panel and a component panel
- have a combobox with shapes that, when selected, will draw that shape in the draw panel
- have a button that, when clicked, will launch JColorChooser to change the color of the drawn shape (draw panel is set to black)
- have a checkbox that, when checked, fills the shape
- have mouse listeners to adjust X and Y and will instantly update the shapes size to where you drag/click/press/release
Code for my drawRect():
Java Code:
// if statement to check if mouse drag X is less than starting X
if(x2 <= x){
if(emptyORfill.isSelected()) // emptyORfill is my JCheckBox
g.fillRect(x2, y, x-x2, y2-y); // x-x2 is the same as Math.abs(x2-x)
else
g.drawRect(x2, y, x-x2, y2-y);
[Code] .....
This is just for my Rectangle. This will show a filled rectangle when both mouse drag X and Y are less then the starting X and Y. If I take this fully functional code and adapt it to drawRoundRect(), the round rectangle wont even show the shape when mouse drag X and Y are less than the starting X and Y but will be fine if one or the other is less than the starting X or Y. NOTE: This same exact code worked on my classmates laptop in her program, but in my program on her laptop it did not. She took out the "else" in the else if's and just made them if statements all the way down and it worked on her laptop in my program, but the same "fix" did not work on my pc.
My mouse listener just sets X and Y values in my Shape class that updates my shape methods. I have an item listener for my comboBox that sets default values when a new selection is made and enables/disables editable on my fill checkbox for certain shapes. My action listener looks for the button click and the checkBox click.
I am getting errors when I try setting left and right values (which are String types) for my tree.I tried doing something like:
Node node = new Node("Is it human?", null, null);
node.getLeft().setNode("Is it Zelda?");//the first left Q
node.getRight().setNode("Is it Kirby?");//the first right Q
but that gives me a runtime error of "java.lang.NullPointerException" which points to the line 2. I also tried this:
Node node = new Node("Is it human?", null, null);
node.setLeft(setNode("Is it Zelda?"));//the first left Q
node.setRight(setNode("Is it Kirby?"));//the first right Q
but that gives me another error, pointing to the setNode for both lines 2 and 3,plus it wouldnt make sense since both setLeft and setRight takes in Node types, not String types.
Here is my Node class:
public class Node {
private Node leftPt, rightPt;//left and right pointers for Node
private String node, left, right;
public Node(String node, Node leftPt, Node rightPt){
this.node = node;
this.leftPt = leftPt;
this.rightPt = rightPt;

We're learning printf with JGrasp as the environment at the moment. Heres the problem.
I have a string as this:
String header1 = new String ("Caswell Catering and Convention Service");
as for the printf line, its this:
System.out.printf ("%-5s/n", header 1);
The output is right justified no matter the use of the "-" or without and I can't seem to find the correct thing to do to make it left justified.
I am asked in my assignment to make a program that accepts a text file as an example a novel and i have to sort each word as a PERSON or ORGANIZATION or LOCATION or O as in Other , example :
Microsoft/ORGANIZATION ,/O Nelly/PERSON !/O '/O
Now we notice that microsoft is and organitzation and "," is Other and Nelly is a person's name and so on ..
Now I am asked to return the numbers of tags in the text which is 4 in our case because we have (ORGANIZATION,PERSON,LOCATION,OTHER)
My question here is my logic true ? And since i made a map of String,String ; Is there any way that i can get the size of the values in our case the values are the organization etc.. ?

I have one doubt.In HashMap if keys contains 1,2,3,4 and values are a,b,c,d we can get values using get(key) method like 1 will A,2 will return B and so on. Can we get the keys from values like A will get 1 and also if in key if there is a String like 1,2,3,Z and value is A,B,C,7 Z should get me 7. Here I am not using any generics.
View Replies View RelatedI am writing a code that tries to figure out the users password by going through every possible key (brute force). Although I think its going to work, it looks EXTREMELY inefficient to me, since its just a huge switch statement for each character -- 94 total, including the shift values. Is there a built in method in the JAVA API that goes through every key or something?
Here is my code for that segment:

char[] passChars = this.password.toCharArray();//convert the password to char[]
char[] hacking = new char[passChars.length];//make the hacking variable same size as users password

I am new with java, eclipse, jpa(eclipselink), postgresql, and trying to make a web application. I have two tables:
bids: id, quantity, price
trades: bidid, askid, quantity, price
bidid and askid columns are foreign keys from bids table (id), and they are the primary key for the trades table.
I created the Entities from the Tables (Bid and Trade class) with eclipse and it generated a TradePK class for the primary key.
Trade.java:
@Entity
@Table(name="trades")
public class Trade implements Serializable {
@EmbeddedId
private TradePK id;
[Code] ....
I understand that this is necessary because the primary key is from two column, but as soon I want to persist a Trade back to the database Eclipselink call the column names twice:
INSERT INTO trades (price, quantity, datetime, BIDID, ASKID, bidid, askid) VALUES (?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?)
So postgres give me back an exception: ERROR: column "bidid" specified more than once
And I don't know why. According to the JPA docs I didn't found any mistake:
Introduction to EclipseLink JPA (ELUG) - Eclipsepedia
Or I just can't see it... or is there a better doc which explains it better?
