How To Input BigInteger Parameter Values Using JConsole

Jan 9, 2015

I am trying to test my JMX bean in JConsole.  How do I input BigInteger parameter values using JConsole? It appears to want a numeric value, but everything I have tried results in an IllegalArgumentException saying there is a ClassCastException.

Passing Object As Parameter - Combination Values Are All Zero

Mar 8, 2015

I have an object that has an instance of another object class as its parameter :

CombinationLock oneHundred = new CombinationLock(28,17,39);
Locker Mickey = new Locker(100, "Mickey", 3, oneHundred);

This is for a locker, which has a combination assigned to the student. Within the locker class I have the following constructor:

public Locker(int locker, String student, int numberOfBooks, CombinationLock combo) {
this.locker = locker;
this.combo = combo;
this.student = student;
this.numberOfBooks = numberOfBooks;
}

combo is the private CombinationLocker object I created within the Locker class. Do I need to pass the combo object on to the CombinationLock class? For reason, I do not comprehend, the combination password from the main class is not passing through to the CombinationLock class, and the combination values are all zero.

Time - Cannot Input Any Value Into Parameter Without It Returning Error

Nov 25, 2014

I think my code is correct, but I cannot input any value into the parameter without it returning an error. I have tried different forms of the time (0734, 7:34, 7,34, and others) but none of them work. I attached a screenshot of the error message. How can I input the parameter?

public class Time extends Object
{
private int itsHour; // always in the range 0 to 23
private int itsMin; // always in the range 0 to 59
/** Create an object for the given hour and minute. If min
* is negative, adjust the values to make 0 <= min < 60. */

public Time (int hour, int min) // constructor

How To Find If BigInteger Is Square

Jul 3, 2014

I have a program i m not sure how to implement :

(Square numbers) Find the first ten square numbers that are greater than Long.MAX_VALUE . A square number is a number in the form of n 2 . For example, 4, 9, and 16 are square numbers. Find an efficient approach to run your program fast.

I found two ways of solving this but i think both are way inefficient :

-A square number can be divided in lesser square numbers :

what's the square of 36 ? 36 is 2 * 3 * 2 * 3 => 4 * 9 => square is 2 * 3

-second option is to estimate a number and increase it or decrease it based on how close that number * number is to the BigInteger starting number , as as it gets closer the delta gets smaller until it gets to 1

Reading File Input - Display All Values

Apr 8, 2014

I've been trying to learn how to read in file input and have a question about this piece of code:

Java Code:

import java.io.File;
import java.io.FileNotFoundException;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.util.Scanner;
public class readFile {

public static void main(String args[]) throws FileNotFoundException{
File file = new File("file.txt");
int sum[]=new int[5];
int i=0;

[Code] .....

"file.txt" holds the following information:

1
2
88
42
56
89

But my output looks like:

2
42
89

if I take out sum[i]=input.nextInt(); it will display all values in the file.

JSF :: Viewstate Stored In Session And Values Of Input Fields

Sep 11, 2014

Many times I have read that JSF stores de view state in session and one of the things that are stored are the values of the form fields, right? But these input field values are not stored in session, I mean, they depend of the scope of the managed bean attached to the view. If I have a view and its attached to a view scoped bean with properties for the form fields, the values will dissapear if I go to other view because the bean is view scoped so I cant say the values of the form are stored in session, right?

Print Maximum And Minimum Values Of Integers From User Input

Apr 27, 2015

So I'm learning java from a website and I was tasked with creating a simple program which allows the user to enter a series of integers, then finally when they decide to input a non-integer the program will print the maximum and minimum values of the integers they entered. So for example if they entered 5, 4, 3 and 2 then enter a non-integer the program would output 5 (maximum value), then 2 on a new line (minimum value).

Here is my code:

import java.util.Scanner;
public class MaxMinPrinter {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in);
int max = Integer.MIN_VALUE;
int min = Integer.MAX_VALUE;

[Code] ....

And this is what the output looks like:

Actual output
-------------------------------------------
Enter an integer: 5
- 10
-
- Enter an integer: -4
- 8
- -6
-
- Enter an integer: 11
- -1
-
- Enter an integer: q
- -1
- -6

When it's supposed to look like this:

Expected output
-------------------------------------------
Enter an integer: 5
Enter an integer: 10
Enter an integer: -4
Enter an integer: 8
Enter an integer: -6
Enter an integer: 11
Enter an integer: -1
Enter an integer: q
11
-6

Write a program that reads a sequence of input values and displays a bar chart of the values, using asterisks, like this:

********************** **************************************** **************************** ************************** **************

You may assume that all values are positive. First figure out the maximum value. That value's bar should be drawn with 40 asterisks. Shorter bars should use proportionally fewer asterisks.

Non-Parameter Constructor Calls Two Parameter Constructor

Apr 19, 2014

I was practicing my java skills and came across an exercise in which a non parameter constructor calls a two parameter constructor. I tried a few searches online but they all came back unsuccessful. This is the part I am working on:

public PairOfDice(int val1, int val2) {
// Constructor. Creates a pair of dice that
// are initially showing the values val1 and val2.
die1 = val1; // Assign specified values
die2 = val2; // to the instance variables.
}
public PairOfDice() {
// Constructor that calls two parameter constructor
}

I tried calling the two constructor using the line "this(val1, val2)" but I get an error because val1 and val2 are local variables.

Then I tried to use the same signature: "this(int val1, int val2)" but that didn't work either.

Store Pixels Values Currently On Screen And Compare Them To Values On The First Frame?

Aug 29, 2014

I need a way to store the pixels values currently on the screen and compare them to the values on the first frame. Right now I'm using glreadpixels as follows:

currentBuffer= BufferTools.reserveByteData(mapSize);
glReadPixels(mapStartX, mapStartY, mapWidth, mapHeight, GL_BLUE, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, currentBuffer);
for (int i = 0; i < mapSize; i++) {
if (currentBuffer.get(i) != baseBuffer.get(i)) {
//Do nothing
continue;
}
//Do something
}

This works perfectly fine but turns out to be a real bottleneck, dropping the fps to a third of what it was. Is there any quicker way? All I'm after is speed, I don't even need to show it on the screen if the comparison is made "behind the scene".

JSP :: Getting Parameter Dynamically?

I know that if you put something like ?x=1 and then getParameter("x") on the servlet page would work, but then all the IDs would have the same parameters since I'm using a for loop to print out my ArrayList of objects.

My code for the jsp part is below.

for (int count=0; count<list.size(); count++) {

<tr>
<td> <a href="EditServlet"><%= list.get(count).id %></a>
<td> <%= list.get(count).name %>

Passing A Map As Parameter

Apr 30, 2014

I'm using Java in BlueJ where I'm trying to write a class to store cycling club membership details in a map. I'm trying to pass a map as a parameter to a function that will iterate over the map and print out the member details. My code is:

public class CtcMembers
{
//instance variables
private Map<String, Set<String>> memberMap;
/**
* Constructor for objects of class CtcMembers

[Code] ....

When I execute the following in the OU workspace:

CtcMembers c = new CtcMembers();
c.addCyclists();

I can see a map populated with the expected details.

When I execute the following in the OU workspace:

c.printMap(c.getMap());

I get the following error:

java.lang.ClassCastException: java.util.HashSet cannot be cast to java.lang.String
in CtcMembers.printMap(CtcMembers.java:81)
in (OUWorkspace:1)

I wasn't aware I was trying to cast anything so this has got me baffled.
