How To Make JTextField To Scroll Down Each Time New Message Received
Mar 31, 2015
I already done a lot of work(user lists, server logging, private messages), but im there is few thing i still dont know how to really implement and, of course my current program is far from beign decent, so i decided to start asking questions(so far i was just experimenting just using knowledge from book and some info found on Java API).
1. How can i make JTextField to scroll down each time new message received and log is already full? i mean visible part of it, so you don't need to scroll it yourself...
2. Why sequencer doesn't play MIDI if it is launched not by main thread?
3. What is good way to do user list with avatars? atm, i'm using regular JList and listening to selected values to open dialogs.
4. What is a good ways to implement sounds in application, other than MIDI? i know that i should just google it, but anyway.
You can check my source code for it by link. Chat client:URL...

I receive an XML message (over an HttpURLConnection) that contains a serialized Java object. This is the received XML message:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?><Olive><Responses><Character>
aced0005737200116f626a656374732e4368617261637465720000
0000000000000200034c00056974656d737400154c6a6176612f757
[Code] .....
What I want to do is to deserialize the Java object which is contained within the <Character> element. (The first four characters "aced" reveals that we are dealing with serialized content. So far so good.) I'm using this code to grab the characters within <Character> and deserialize them into a Java object:
Node characterElement = responsesElementChildren.item(0); // <Character>
String characterSerialized = characterElement.getTextContent();
ByteArrayInputStream bais = new ByteArrayInputStream( characterSerialized.getBytes() );
ObjectInputStream ins = new ObjectInputStream( bais );
objects.Character retrievedCharacter = (objects.Character) ins.readObject();
However, the above operation fails and I get this exception:
java.io.StreamCorruptedException: invalid stream header: 61636564
at java.io.ObjectInputStream.readStreamHeader(Unknown Source)
at java.io.ObjectInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source)
at network.requests.RequestRetrieveCharacter.addResponse(RequestRetrieveCharacter.java:99)
at network.GameServer.ask(GameServer.java:151)
at Client.main(Client.java:43)
I cannot tell if the received serialized data is okay or not, so I really don't know if the problem is here in the deserialization or actually in the serialization (on the sending side where the Java object is serialized and packed into an XML message).

I'm having a hard time finding out the way to make JTextField editable. In what circumstances it can be disabled to write? [even the text in the field can't be selected, not to mention being uneditable. I did the followings to make it editable.
1. In its Properties panel(frame or whatever), checked the "editable" item.
2. In the code I made it run the code below :
void makeFieldsEditable(Boolean flag) {
Left_Name_field.setEditable(flag);
Left_Name_field.setEnabled(flag);
...
}
Is it related with the properties of the control(JTextField)'s surrounding panel, or even the largest containing frame? Using Netbeans ....

I have a jtextfield that I want to make invisible on start. I do not see an option for that in the design side under properties. I am a VB programmer and in VB there is an option under properties to make it visible or invisible.

This is a part of my program. When the user enters "Exam Schedule" in the JtextField and clicks the add button I want the link to change to a link that opens a local pdf file. And if the user enters "Academic Calendar" the Jlabel will be set to another link. So far this works fine but the problem is that if you erase the textfield and enter another value the link of the previous value will still be there.
public void actionPerformed (ActionEvent e){
if (e.getSource ==add) {
if (text.getText().equalsIgnoreCase("Exam Schedule")){

This isn't asking to make a Singleton, where I want only one type of a type of window period.
It's not where I want only one instance of the program itself open at a time. It's more along the lines of, though I don't care if there is more than one Microsoft Word open at the same time, I don't want more than one instance of blablabla.docx to be open at once.
In other words, I'd need to scan my system or my list of open windows of a particular type to make sure that no two ones where equals is true will match up.
I was going to do it to associate it with a particular name with a window (it's sort of an addressbook, though not quite.) I'd use a JFrame subclass to make these windows that have a name go with them. For now, unless I find the great need for this project that there might be someone with the exact same name around here, I'm going to use equals() with name on this. I can type cast and whatnot.
However, how do I get to know what windows are open at once so I can check all my list of open windows, and I'd prefer to check only ones of certain types, though I may have to check them all indirectly perhaps, before I check the names.
I'm wondering is it a getChildren() of the main window or something else? How do I know what all of my open windows are?
I'd prefer to have to check as few as possible and not have to check unnecessary ones.
As for the structure of my thing that would click that would open the new window, I'm not sure yet. I'm almost leaning JLabel, though it's a bit less sophisticated, as it might be more difficult to add to a JList (maybe I"m wrong on thinking on that. It's been a little while since I last worked with JLists.)
(I think I can set list data, but the problem is, even using an ArrayList, it only takes an array for this as a param and ArrayList returns an Array of type Object, which means a lot of pesky type casting every time just to add or remove a name.)
It does have Vector, but I thought Vector was being phased out.
Anyway, without having too much code given, as I'm not sure how I'll set this up yet, how do you get access to all of the windows being opened to be able to check them for certain traits?

I would like to know the details about how a server handles a multipart request. I know that a webserver comprises of a HTTP adapter(which is responsible for receiving http requests and sending http responses) and a container(which is responsible for handling dynamic requests).
So, when a client sends a request, the HTTP adapter receives it. Then transfers the request to the container if the http adapter cannot handle it(jsps, servlets for example).
Suppose, a client sends a multipart request which has an avi file of size upto 100mb. For example, lets assume that the client takes 5 minutes to upload the file.
Lets also assume that my application is only interested in flv files. Is there any way to stop/terminate the multipart request before the file is transferred to the server? So that the client's time will not be wasted?
I think that the HTTP adapter will transfer the request to the container only after receiving the entire request, i.e. the servlet will be called only after the file is transferred to the server from client. Is it right?
If its right then there is no easy way to terminate the multipart request unless the entire file is transferred to the server. Is this right?

I have a java swing application.
1. The human user of my application asks it to fire up a scanner which scans a paper document. The document is a filled in form.
2. The application then displays the scanned image to the human user.The image is displayed in a JScrollPane since it may be larger than the scroll pane.
3. The human user needs to locate a certain item in the form, for example a social security number, and enter it into a field in a data entry screen.Note that the image and the field appear on the same screen.
Of-course the social security number always appears in the same location in the image. Also the image needs to be the appropriate magnification and resolution to allow the human user to easily read and understand the item he is searching for in the image.
What is the best way to present the scanned image to the user such that he immediately sees the item he requires and can enter it into the data entry field.

I'm having serious issues right now with a JTable inside a JScrollPane.i have some methods that returns different indexes (rows) that i select programatically in a JTable and the problem is that sometimes it goes beyond of what i can see, like, the row gets selected but the scrollbar won't follow up.
i've searched up in google and saw several different methods but those were extremely complex and for stuff i don't need.the simplest solution i found is this:
tInfo.setRowSelectionInterval(searchIndexes.get(currentIndex), searchIndexes.get(currentIndex));
tInfo.scrollRectToVisible(tInfo.getCellRect(currentIndex, 1, true));
but it just doesn't do anything.My table (tInfo) has only two columns so no horizontal bars, just vertical. What can i do to align the scrollbar with the currently selected row in my table? :C
Found a solution using scrollPane.getVerticalScrollBar().setValue();in another thread, i didn't even notice there were like 3 more threads about the same, just different kind of code used in each.

I got an application with JScrollPanes; they seem to work fine, but fresh after the start, their scrollbars seem dead:I only begin to see their components after resizing the application window with the mouse.Clicking the scroll bars or their buttons (in Metal Look&Feel) does nothing.And there is no 'knob' visible.Dragging the side or bottom of the application window suddenly shows all and makes them operational.My ComponentListener on the window that contains the scrollpanes only does a repaint on the components inside the scrollpanes.Adding such to the code has no effect, neither does a repaint on the scrollpanes themselves.

The program below compiles and functions correctly for the most part. It is supposed to be a simple GUI Text Editor with Edit and Format functions. The content pane is supposed to be a scroll pane, however no matter how much I type into the editor, the scroll bar does not appear. Also, the none of the functions under the "Edit" menu work.

I am working on an assignment that I can't seem to figure out the final part to. The program takes in course data such as the time the class starts and how long it lasts. The time is in military time (0000 - 2400)
I need the output time to be the time the class started, plus the length of the class, and displayed in military time.
for example,
Start Time = 0930
Length = 50 minutes
Endtime = 1020
I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this. I have gotten a program that works for this time and minutes, and displays the correct 1020. But when I change the information to say
Start time: 0700
Length = 90 minutes
I get:
Endtime = 90
90 is technically correct, the way the formula is setup, but I need it to display 0900 not 90.
Here is the code that I have. Be easy, I'm still learning, and this is just the file I created to get the formula to work. Also, the verbose in here is just for my own debugging to make sure values should be what I'm expecting them to be.
public class calc
{
public static void main(String[] args) {
double hours, minutes, length;
double temp;
int time = 2400;
hours = time / 100;
System.out.println("Hours are: " + hours);

I have two classes. time_runner is used for testing my code.
This is what I'm using to test my code:
class time_runner
{
public static void main(String str[]) throws IOException {
Time time1 = new Time(14, 56);
System.out.println("time1: " + time1);
System.out.println("convert time1 to standard time: " + time1.convert());
System.out.println("time1: " + time1);
System.out.print("increment time1 five times: ");
time1.increment();
[code]....
The two constructors are "Time()", which is the default constructor that sets the time to 1200, and "Time(int h, int m)" Which says If h is between 1 and 23 inclusive, set the hour to h. Otherwise, set the hour to 0. If m is between 0 and 59 inclusive, set the minutes to m. Otherwise, set the minutes to 0. Those are my two constructors that I pretty much have down. The three methods however I'm having trouble with. The "String toString()" Returns the time as a String of length 4. The "String convert()" Returns the time as a String converted from military time to standard time. The "void increment()" Advances the time by one minute.
public class Time {
private int hour;
private int minute;
public Time(int h, int m) {
if(h > 1 && h < 23)
hour = h;
[code]....

We are making a tic tac toe game for my CS120 class and I am having trouble figuring out how to make our X's and O's. Is there a way to make shapes besides making two lines for an X and an oval with a white smaller oval inside to make an O? We have only learned the basics so far in class (i.e. events, inheritance, client-supplier, etc.)
These are our instructions:
Write a controller that controls the game. There is one human player (the X player) and the computer player (the O player). The name of the class must be TicTacToeController. In a sense, the controller is the game since the controller will 1) create a TicTacToeModel 2) create a TicTacToeView and 3) create a TicTacToeButton (you must write this class following the design pattern covered in class lectures), a label, and text field such that when the button is pushed, the player moves into the cell selected by the text field. After every player move, the computer moves into a randomly selected empty cell. When the game is over, a text message must be displayed somewhere on the screen the gives the status of the game. While you are free to change the appearance of the controller, the basic elements must be provided (a view of the game, a button, and a text field to enter the cell). A sample screenshot is displayed below.And this is the code i have thus far:
[import java.awt.*;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
public class TicTacToeView extends Rectangle
public TicTacToeView(int x, int y, int w, int h) {
super(50,60,w,h);
this.setBackground(Color.red);
JFrame win = new JFrame("Tic Tac Toe");
win.setBounds(10,10,w+100, h+100);
win.setLayout(null);
win.setVisible(true);
win.setBackground(Color.gray);
