JSF :: Passing Parameters From Servlet

Sep 12, 2014

I'm trying to pass a parmeter to a jsf page from a servlet(i.e. associated with paypal adaptive api), but I keep getting the following error, even though the productType on ProductDetailsVO is a String.

INFO: WARNING: FacesMessage(s) have been enqueued, but may not have been displayed.

sourceId=j_idt2[severity=(ERROR 2), summary=(j_idt2: '45;productType=Sport'

must be a number consisting of one or more digits.), detail=(j_idt2: '45;productType=Sport' must be a number between -2147483648 and 2147483647 Example: 9346)]

Calling JSF page contains:-

returnURL = new URL(new URL(request.getRequestURL().toString()),"pages/paypalpaymentapproved.xhtml?paypalID="+paypalID+";productType=Sport");
response.sendRedirect(returnURL.toString());

JSF :: Passing Argument Parameters Between Pages

Jul 19, 2014

So I have an application where the user logs in (using j_security_check). User is taken to a welcome page where user's name is displayed as a link. When clicking that link I would like to take the user to a page where the user is able to update the credentials (password, address, etc). In this way the user only has access to the link related to that specific user's credentials. I am trying the following structure:

The welcome page (adminindex.xhtml) is:

<h:form>
Welcome to admin <h:commandLink value="#{userb.loggedUser}" action="#{userb.selectedUser}"/>
<f:param name="userName" value="#{userb.userName}"/>
</h:form>

The user backing bean:

public String selectedUser() {
userName = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequestParameterMap().get(userName);
selUser=uServ.findByName(userName);
return "UpdateUser";

[Code] ....

The last line of the stack suggests that a null PK value is being picked up by the FacesContext method in the backing bean. I'm confused because the userName string IS the primary key of the user table which is structured like this:

CREATE TABLE sha_users
( username VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL
, password VARCHAR(255) NULL
, PRIMARY KEY ( username ) );

I'm sure I'm getting the concept of how to pass query parameters...

Passing Parameters And Return Statement

Apr 27, 2014

My task is to make a mortgage calculator where the user selects which calculation they want the program to do via a menu. I got the menu to work and it keeps on looping until terminated so that's good. The starts when I want the user's choice (P, I or T) to be used in another method which will then execute another set of code (the calculation that needs to be done). I think passing parameters and return statements are what I need to use, but after reading and watching videos, I'm still not sure how to implement it into my program. For now, I want the user to input the letter "P" and then I want that information to be passed to the method, loanCalculator() where the if statement will make a decision to call the method, calcPayment and display the number 0 via the console. Once it can do that, I'll fill in the calculation methods with the proper code since I can at least navigate the user input to its associated calculator. It just keeps on looping the menu without going through the other methods.

import java.util.Scanner;
//Example of "big loop" in main to repeat using a No Trip (0,N) test first
public class Mortgage {
// constants
static double loanAmount;
static double interestRate;
static int term;

[code]....

JSF :: Passing Parameters From Normal List Object Without Using DataModel

Oct 9, 2014

How to use the id parameter in my documents entity to download documents from a list of documents. Normally I use ListDataModel and the getRowData method. I would like to know how to achieve the same thing using an ordinary List object.

My list of documents is called List<CountryDocs> selectedDocs;

<h:form>
<p:dataTable value="#{countryDocBean.selectedDocs}" var="docs">
<p:commandLink id="download" value="Download" ajax="false">
<p:fileDownload value="#{countryDocBean.downloadedFile}"
contentDisposition="attachment"/>

[Code] ....

Clicking on the download link calls the following method in my managed bean:

@ManagedBean(name = "countryDocBean")
@SessionScoped
public class CountryDocBean {
private List<CountryDocs> selectedDocs;
public StreamedContent getDownloadedFile() {

[Code] ....

Debugging shows the value for the id is 0 and this results in a NullPointerException. I've tried several methods for grabbing the document id in my backing bean, but no luck yet. I also read about the the ViewParams and ViewAction method but they caused validation errors to do with the <f:metadata> tags. I don't know how to obtain this value using a normal List object.

Passing Parameters - Randomly Generated Numbers Not Appearing

Dec 14, 2014

For some reason, when I test out my code, my randomly generated numbers don't appear. Here is a sample result:

> What do you want to generate, integer, double, or character?

>integer

>What is the upper limit and lower limit of the integers you want to generate?

>1

>10

>How many integers do you want to generate?

>10

>BUILD SUCCESSFUL (total time: 9 seconds)

Is this because my code is not passing my parameters correctly? I'm not sure how to fix this either.

Here is my code for reference (it's not completed at the moment)

import java.util.Scanner;
public class NewNumberCharacter {
/** Main method
* @param args */
public static void main(String[] args) {
int return_int;
double return_double;

Java Servlet :: How To Receive Parameters From A Form And Insert Values In DB

May 23, 2012

I'm trying to create a Servlet that takes input from a form and process it and insert it in database.tablename.

My MAIN ISSUE IS WITH THE NUMBER OF COLUMNS THAT WOULD BE DYNAMIC AND THUS CANT RECEIVE THE PARAMETERS IN STATIC CODE.

Here is the form code

<%@page contentType="text/html" pageEncoding="UTF-8"%>
<!DOCTYPE html>
<form action="Test" method="post" />
<table width="90%" border="1" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="1">

[Code] ....

And here is the Servlet

import javax.servlet.*;
import javax.servlet.http.*;
import java.sql.*;
import java.io.*;
public class Test extends HttpServlet {

[Code] ....

This is the basic code structure and I'm trying to figure out this special case with handling the multiple parameters:

I don't want to use String []a=request.getParameterValues("studentname"); as hard code. The reason being the number of rows will be diyamic and I would like to get the column name and then then use an array of string to take values. But how can I connect these to form a query so that the rows goes on inserted one after other.

Changing Superclass Parameters?

My understanding was I could override a method from the superclass, including with different parameters, but when I try to use super. it gives me an error the arguments have to match the superclass. But, if I do that it won't make any sense.

The first code below is the superclass. The issue I'm having is on the second code at lines 7 and 10. The ultimate goal is to make a new class where I'm able to display various packages with or without insurance.

public class Package {
double shippingWeight;
public char shippingMethod;
final char air = 'A';
final char truck = 'T';
final char mail = 'M';
double shippingCost;

Stuck On Constructor With Parameters

Mar 19, 2014

How to use a constructor with parameters where the user inputs the information? I'm doing a problem where I create a Delivery class that accepts arguments for the year, delivery number within the year, distance code (1 for short distance, 2 for long), and weight of package. The constructor is supposed to also determine the eight digit delivery number (combining the year and delivery number, like 20140054 for this year, package #54).

I know I'm not close to being done but I'm struck on the application with the constructor parameters. If I'm asking the user to input the information, does that mean I have to create a no argument constructor so it will compile? Right now it won't compile because it's asking for the parameters but I can't put them.

This is the class:

public class Delivery {
int year;
int delNum;
double weight;
int code;

[Code] .....

And the error is:

CreateDelivery.java:22: error: constructor Delivery in class Delivery cannot be applied to given types;
Delivery firstDelivery = new Delivery();
^
required: int,int,int,double
found: no arguments
reason: actual and formal argument lists differ in length

Formal And Actual Parameters?

Jan 11, 2014

In the following Java Code:

public static void f() {
int n = 5;
p(n, 2 * n);
}
public static void p(int a, int b) {
int x = 1;
q(x, a + b);
}
public static void q(int x, int y) {
int z = x + y;
x = 0;
...
} mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

When we write x = 0; that refers to the formal parameter int x and hence it's the formal parameter that changes value. why isn't the value of the actual parameter also changing?

Repeating Constructors With Same And Different Parameters

May 26, 2014

So while experimenting with constructors, repeating constructors with the same parameters, and with different parameters. I got an output -explaining how I got it.

I made 2 classes. a "support class" (has all the info) and an "execute class" (executes info).

Support:

package inschool;
public class Constructors {
String video;
public Constructors() {
video = "frozen";

[Code] ....

Execute:

package inschool;
//this is part of Constructors class
public class App{
public static void main(String[] args){

[Code] ....

The Output:

the video name is frozen
Second constructor running
Constructor running!
the video name is frozen

Output Explanation:

constructor call number 1 and 3 are the same (essentially) and both refer to the same constructor.

My Question: if both call #1 and #3 refer to the same constructor, why is the output for #1 "the video name is frozen"

while the output for #3 used both methods in the accessed constructor-with the resulting output as
"Constructor running!"
and
"the video name is frozen"

I double checked the output-and this time made sure to scroll up ... its the same result
