JSP :: Instead Of Displaying File Asking PDF To Download
Aug 21, 2014
I am trying to display the files stored in server using jsp. I used the code below to display. But for pdf it is asking to download (No option for open). For XLS, XLSX, DOCX, PPT and PPTX it is showing zip file to download. For type doc it is showing junk data.
<%
String fileName=(String)request.getAttribute("fileName");
int loc = fileName.lastIndexOf(".");
String fileName1 = fileName.substring(0, loc);
String fileName2 = fileName.substring(loc + 1, fileName.length());

I have a FileChooser:
JFrame parentFrame = new JFrame();
JFileChooser fileChooser = new JFileChooser();
fileChooser.setDialogTitle(txtPushCode.getText());
int userSelection = fileChooser.showSaveDialog(parentFrame);
if (userSelection == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION) {
[Code] ....
But as you can see, it downloads only to "C:android empcoloricon.png". I want to download it to path where I chose in FileChooser with the name and extension I choose. In short, how can I use dynamic file path names in where ever I want in my applications?

String contentType = fi.getContentType(); gives text/plain when my file is.txt file and gives image/jpeg when my file is .jpeg file but when my file is .jar or .docx it will return application/octet-stream and application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document respictively so what to do to get exact mime type.

I currently have the following code that I use to download a file from a website:
URL website = new URL(imgurl);
ReadableByteChannel rbc = Channels.newChannel(website.openStream());
FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(dir+""+imageNumber + "." + extension);
fos.getChannel().transferFrom(rbc, 0, Long.MAX_VALUE);
fos.close();
Usually, the code works very well. But sometimes, the download gets stalled indefinitely. Is there a way to set a time out period for the downloading of this file?

URLConnection conn;
InputStream in = null;
long startup = System.currentTimeMillis();

This issue is regarding response from the servlet
I have written a code to download .csv file with records from DB.
To download records i am uploading a .CSV file containing telephone number.
After downloading the .CSV file page is not getting refreshed.
Below is the code snippet i am using,where i am setting response content type as test/csv.
ServletOutputStream op = resp.getOutputStream();
// Set content type of output
resp.setContentType("text/csv");
resp.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename="test"");
op.flush();
op.close();
How that page will get refreshed after csv file download or after response.

Recently we got an issue about file download. We are using below code to fetch the data from backend(DB2) and export to excel.
Before Jan 15 it use to take 2 minutes to download the file (2 MB size). But now its taking half an hour to download.
response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
response.setHeader("content-disposition","attachment; filename=Attendance_Report.xls");
We have restarted server, system but still problem exists. We found that there is no code level or data base level or network level issues.
Now we have to see server level issue. What are the factors which effects the file downloading at server level.
We are using websphere 6.1 ,java1.4

A graph consists of vertices and edges that connect vertices. Write a program that reads a graph from a file and displays it on a panel. The first line in the file contains a number that indicates the number of vertices (n). The vertices are labeled as 0, 1, ..., n-1. Each subsequent line, with the format u x y v1, v2, ..., describes that the vertex u is located at position (x, y) with edges (u, v1), (u, v2), etc. Your program prompts the user to enter the name of the file, reads data from the file, and displays the graph on a panel.
Example File:
6
0 30 30 1 2
1 90 30 0 3
2 30 90 0 3 4
3 90 90 1 2 4 5
4 30 150 2 3 5
5 90 150 3 4
Analysis:
A graph is a mathematical structure with vertices and edges that connect the vertices. A graph is a very useful tool for modeling real-world problems. This project is to display the graph. The information for the graph is stored in a file. The number of the vertices n is stored in the first line of the file. The vertices are labeled 0, 1, 2, ..., n-1. The format of each subsequent line is u x y v1, v2, ..., which describes vertex u at location (x, y) and u is connected to vertices v1, v2, etc.
Design:
The program should first read the information about the graph from a file. The program prompts the user to enter the file name and read vertices location information into a two-dimensional array named position, where (position[0][0], position[0][1]) is the x- and y-coordinates for vertex 0. For example, in the sample graph, (position[0][0], position[0][1]) is (30, 30). The program reads the edge information into an array of ArrayList named edge (ArrayList is covered in Chapter 11). For example, in the sample graph, edge[0].Is an ArrayList that contains elements 1 and 2, which indicates that vertex 0 is connected to vertex 1 and vertex 2. position and edge should be created as followed:
int[][] position = new int[n][2];
ArrayList[] edge = new ArrayList[n];
I don't know how to implement the code. I have started but I am not sure how to proceed.
import java.awt.Graphics;
import java.util.*;
import java.io.*;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
import javax.swing.JPanel;
public class Exercise15_27 extends JFrame {
[code]....

I have a program that writes a user's input to a file.
The input consists of several loops. In each loop the user enters a student number, the student first name and last name and then several exam results. Each student has different number of exams, depend on the user input.
For instance, the input can be (explanations are in brackets but not in the actual file):
505 (student number)
efron (last name)
ben (first name)
3 (no. of exams)
88 (1st exam mark)
70 (2nd exam mark)
... and so on
I need to write a program that reads that file and writes it to the screen, but it needs to do it in ascending order according to the student number.
Leaving aside the format it will be displayed on the screen, my question is how should I sort the data by the student number?
I though about first reading each student as an array, but my problem is that each array contains different number of elements (depends on the number of exams) and also each array containד both strings (first and last names) and ints.

I have a requirement to download the data from DB to CSV/Excel. What I did is retrieving all the records from DB and store in the List and pass that list to the jsp page. In JSP page, I am using the below setting to download it to CSV/EXCEL.
response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
String fileName = "Report"+System.currentTimeMillis()+".xls";
response.setHeader("Content-disposition","attachment;filename="+fileName);
It was working fine. But I have an issues in it. Excel is capable of storing it only 65,536 rows. Even all the data getting downloaded to CSV/excel (> 65,536), while saving I am getting error from excel saying that it can't save more than 65,536 rows and the below data won't be saved.
This workbook contains data in cells outside of the row and column limit of the selected file format.
Data beyond 256 (IV) columns by 65,536 rows will not be saved.
Formula references to data in this region will return a #REF! error.
I am not opt for POI apache third party at this point of time. Is it possible to download it in other sheets if it exceeds the max limit.
Example: Having data of around 100,000.
Download 65,536 - Sheet 1
Remaining in Sheet 2,3.. of the same excel.
