I would like to create an ArrayList from data types stored in a text file.The ArrayList would be multidimensional with two data types; int, String.
Example text file could be:
4 cahiers grand format
3 stylots bic bleu
5 gommes
I find it very difficult for multiple data types i don't see how its possible.

I have to write a gui program where I can enter a file name and then it gets displayed in a text area when I click Open. Conceptually, I do not get this. I was thinking of appending the text file into a string or something, but I guess I'm confused on how it all works and how I can open the text file. Not asking for the code, but just a compass or something.

I am working on a personal project and want to create a text editor to write my code. I am wondering how could I read the last input from the user and if say it was an open curly brace {, then like netbean's my editor will supply the closing curly brace. My java experience is limited but I have tried to read key board input and a few other options that did not work.

I am building a chat server/client and would like to have it so when a user sends a message, the message pops up in the main chat area beside their name, which I would like to be in bold font. Something like "Alan: Hello, how are you?". I can't find a way to do this with a text area or on a string. Do any swing components suitable for use as text areas support bolding of certain sections of the string that you will set to it?

So I'm trying to read 11 values from a text file, each value on a separate line. The first value I use as loop control to run through calculations on the other ten and finally output both the numbers and the calculations to the console and an output file. I'm not getting a compiler error or a runtime error but my loop seems to stop after reading the first line. It also doesnt seem to be writing to my output file but does create it when I run the program. This is what my text file looks like
10
150.4
88.4
-3.14
499.4
799.4
1299.8
0
1900.2
901.7
4444.4
This is what my program looks like
import java.util.*;
import java.io.*;
public class assignment7scratch
{
Toolkit_General toolKit = new Toolkit_General();
public static void main (String[]args)throws IOException
[Code] .....
so I dont get an error but this is what my output looks like
----jGRASP exec: java assignment7scratch
This program reads a list of values representing number of miles driven by individuals. It will output the dollar amount their rental cars cost.
Number of miles traveled on the left as well as amount reimbursed on the right
-----------------------------------------------
Miles Driven Amount reimbursed
150.427.072
----jGRASP: operation complete.
it also doesn't write anything to my output file, though it does create one.

I working on a bank program that gets a user id, name and balance from a text file. I need to be able to sort based on each field. I'm using Collection.sort and Comparator. I'm using String[] array = file.toFile().list(); to get the values for the array from the text file. I can't figure out how to make this into an arraylist. I understand the concept when hardcoding the data but having trouble doing it from a text file.

I have a fixed list of 20+ values to be populated in a dropdown. The set of values are always going to remain the same, no future scope of modifications, additions or deletions.
Listing each of them as <option> in JSP is making the page look cluttered. Or is it better reading it as a comma-separated string from a properties file and then iterating to populate the dropdown.
What will be the best approach to populate such a dropdown in JSP?

Write a program that creates an array that can hold 9 double values that represent baseball batting averages for a starting baseball lineup. Use a for loop to populate array with random double values in the range of 0.00 to 0.500. Recall that "double" values are what Java calls "real" numbers. Use a second for loop to print the values in the array with one number per line. Finally, use a third for loop to traverse the array and find and print the maximum batting average in the array. Note: you will need to use String.format to control the precision of a double number when you print it- Here is my code so far:
public class P2F {
public static void main (String[] args) {
double [] player= new double [9];
//player[0]= Math.random();
for (int index=0; index < player.length; index++) {
[Code] ....
When I open the terminal window I get different variations of this [D@4545c5]. I would like to know all the things I am doing wrong.

I've been given a school assignment that reads, "Rewrite the main class Geometry so it takes in the dimensions for the triangle and ellipse as user inputs and create a Triangle and an Ellipse class. Use the appropriate variable types, constants, variable names and computational formulas.
Triangle class will have a computePerimeter and a computeArea methods Ellipse class will have a computeArea method Create Report class
• Create a method createReport that takes the values returned from Triangle and Ellipse and combines them in the following message and displays it. Format the values so that they have 2 decimals.
“The triangle has a perimeter of [perimeter] with an area of [area] while the ellipse has an area of [area]”
• Create a method switchReport that takes the original string from createReport and changes the message to display using the available methods in the String class
“The ellipse has an area of [area] while the triangle has an area of [area] with a perimeter of [perimeter]”"
I've run into a problem when creating the createReport method. Everytime i run it i get incorrect values for the perimeter and area (namely i get zero every time).
my code is as follows:
public class Triangle
{
public double base;
public double height;
public double hypotenuse;
private double tArea;
private double perimeter;
public Triangle()
{
base = 0;
height = 0;
hypotenuse = 0;
[code]....
For the triangle class and
public class Report {
Triangle tri2 = new Triangle();
Ellipse eli2 = new Ellipse();
public Report() {
}
public void createReport() {
System.out.println("The triangle has a perimeter of "+tri2.computePerimeter() +" with an area of " +tri2.computeTArea() +" while the ellipse has an area of " +eli2.computeEArea() );
}
for the report class.the Geometry class allows you to input values and if i skip the report and simply print the perimeter and area they are correct. However with the report class it simply gives me zeros.

I have list of employees in my database and their associated information like employeeId,supervisor and process. I have class named EmployeeDetails having same properties. I am fetching details of all users using below code:
<%EmployeeDetails employeeList;
employeeList=(List<EmployeeDetails>)assetmain2.getEmployeeList(loginName);%>
<table>
<tr>
<td>
Requested For <select name="requestedForName" id="requestedForNameID">
<option selected="selected">--Select--</option>
<%int i=0;
[Code] .....
In employeeList, we have list of objects having data of employees. I donot know how to get which object is selected in dropdown and based on that rest of the text fields are populated. Example:
Name ID Supervisor
-------------------------------------------------------
Pawan Kumar3033045Vimal Kumar
Vimal Kumar3040901Dinesh Hemrajani
If Pawan Kumar is selected from dropdown then '3033045' and 'Vimal Kumar' should get populated.

I have `country.properties` file which have values as follows:
1=USA
91=India
20=Egypt
358=Finland
33=France
679=Fiji
and, have a response class file, which is setting a response from database to display it on `JSP` file. The value that I am getting from database is in the form of `code` or `integer`. I needed to have that value from the database and before setting the response I need to use `getProperty(code)` and save the String representation of that code into a new list and then pass that list to `setResponse`. For e.g: This is the value I am getting from database:
col1 | col2 | col3 |
1 helo done
I needed to show on my JSP page as:
col1 | col2 | col3 |
USA helo done
I was following this tutorial [URL].... but not able to exactly understand how to achieve the same.
This is my `DAOImpl` where I needed to `iterate` and save the `mapped key-value` in a new list and then pass to `JSP` page
public class CountDAOImpl implements IDataDAO {
private Connection conn = null;
private Statement statement = null;
private ResultSet rs = null;
private List<String> country_code = new LinkedList<String>();
[Code] ....

I have a popup that displays textual info and sometimes gets text input from the user. I'm using the following code:
JTextArea textArea = new JTextArea( getGameHistory( true, -2 ) );
JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(textArea);
textArea.setLineWrap(true);
textArea.setWrapStyleWord(true);
textArea.setFont(new Font("courier", Font.PLAIN, 12));
scrollPane.setPreferredSize( new Dimension( 30, 100 ) );
String input = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null, scrollPane, "Fun Chess ",
JOptionPane.YES_NO_OPTION);
This shows a nice text area and an input field underneath it.The getGameHistory() method just returns a long string detailing the current game.Is there a way of just showing the text area without the input field underneath?Can the text area also be used for input instead?

I have a requirement where in the content of the text area is dynamically populated from the database. I am able to successfully retrieve and display the data on the text area.
However when the content is too large, I am not able to dynamically set the height of the text area. When I try to display the same as a label, the display is flawless, dynamically sets the height as per the content. So, I tried to create a label, with same content and dynamically bind the height to the preferred height as below, but it doesn't work.
// Generate User Note Description
TextArea textArea = new TextArea();
Label text = new Label();
// SETTING THE TEXT TO A LABEL TO RETRIEVE THE HEIGHT
text.setText(usrNotes.getNote().trim());
[Code] ....
