Java-8 :: How To Manage Untrusted / Unsigned Internal Apps

Apr 10, 2015

I'm deploying Java 8 update 40 to my users and want to know if there's a way to manage sites that prompt the user with warnings about untrusted and unsigned applets?

i'm using the exception.sites file to manage applicable prompts/warnings for our internal sites, but doesn't look like the exception list works for untrusted and unsigned.

is there a way to manage these from an all users level, particularly with a deployment (ie, SCCM)?

How To Set Different Java Versions For Different Apps On A Windows PC

Nov 25, 2014

I have 2 different apps, one of them is a java desktop app and the other one is a c# web app. which uses java applet in order to e-sign. The problem is desktop java app requires 1.5.0_14 and on the other hand web app. requires 1.7 and higher version of java.

I installed both java 1.5 and 1.7 versions on my PC. In order to run desktop java app., I go to C:Progra~2Javajre1.5.0_14in and run javacpl to disable 1.7 and enable 1.5. Then I make a shortcut to javaws 1.5.0_14 to my desktop and add the jnlp of this java app to the target of javaws shortcut. After those settings, the java desktop app. runs.

Now I need to also run the web app which requires 1.7 java. In order to run this app. properly Java 1.5 should be disabled, 1.7 enabled on the Java Control Panel settings. Problem is when you run this web app. the settings for 1.5.0_14 breaks down, I mean all of the java versions become enabled in javacpl under C:Progra~2Javajre1.5.0_14in directory. If I restart my PC, I need to reset the java versions. Is there a way to make this happen without a pain in the head?

By the way, I tried to use batch files etc. but not succeded.

Unsigned Chars Over UDP Socket

May 22, 2014

I can have up to 100,000 simultaneous connections to a udp socket, which needs to be handled by separate threads. Each of the connections talk to a c program on an embedded device that sends and responds with an array of unsigned chars. Now Java does not have an unsigned char type. The closest you can use is a short. But DatagramPacket requires a byte argument:

public class Socket {
public Socket(int port) throws IOException {
new SocketThread().start();
} }
public class SocketThread extends Thread {
protected DatagramSocket socket = null;

[Code] .....

So how can I go about reading and writing unsigned chars over a udp socket?

How To Manage Imports

Feb 27, 2015

My first Java project contains 30+ imports, all of which are for specific classes -- I'm using NetBeans and whenever I instantiate a new, unimported class I just click on the "light bulb" and tell it to import. I'm only now starting to worry about code management and conventions.

As you can imagine, many of these imported classes live in just a few packages, like awt and file.nio. It's starting to make my code a little cluttered. In the real world, what is the convention for import statements? My instincts tell me I should just import using the .* wildcard, but how do professionals do it? If an experienced programmer were to pull my code from Github, what would they want or expect to see in the import lines of code: a bunch of specific imports, or wildcard imports?

JList Manipulation - How Operating Systems Manage Processes

Sep 29, 2014

I am attempting to use JLists to complete a program that models how operating systems manage processes. A quick synopsis of what it is supposed to do. Each process is to have a priority level (I chose to do 1 -3 with 3 being the most important) and there are supposed to be three lists. One for ready processes, blocked processes, and a running process.

My issues:

1) when I block a process it does indeed switch lists but when it is copied into the blocked list it pulls the element number instead of what the actual process number is. For ex: Say the ready list has 5 processes / I delete 2 / Leaving process 1, 2, 5. When I block 5, it gets registered in the blocked list as process 2.

2) I can't figure out how to give a label to each of my scroll panels (JLists) to signify which box is ready / blocked / and running

3) My switch button - I have commented in what I need to do but don't know how I am going to do it.

Below are my files:

Main

import java.util.Comparator;
import java.util.PriorityQueue;
import java.util.Queue;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
import javax.swing.JTextArea;
public class PQueue {
public static void main(String[] args) throws InterruptedException {

[Code] ....

Servlets :: Session Timeout In General Web Applications Vs Social Apps

Mar 14, 2014

Generally sessions in web applications expire after a stipulated max inactive interval. To my knowledge primarily the reason is if the session objects are not invalidated they keep exhausting the memory. So my question is

A. Is there any other reason other why web applications timeout the user session after an inactive interval?

B. Social sites never timeout the user session even if you just leave them for the entire day. How do they manage sessions? Don't the active sessions exhaust memory on their servers or JVM to be specific?

Attempting To Make CoalescedHashMap With Internal Chaining

Apr 3, 2014

I am attempting to make a CoalescedHashMap<K, V> with internal chaining. It isn't a hard concept, but it needs to extend AbstractSet and implement Map<K, V>.

Map requires a remove method that returns a V(value). AbstractSet extends Collection, which requires a remove method that returns a boolean value. It gives a syntax error either way it is done. This is a standard homework assignment for a junior level class, so there must be some way to deal with this. It is annoying as we do not need to implement the remove method, it just throws and exception.

Javac Is Not Recognized As Internal Or External Command Error

Modify Internal Object Structure Using Any Design Pattern

Mar 31, 2014

I have a design scenario here which is quite interesting and complex. I have a Java class structure as follows,

class A
{
     class B;
     innerClass B
     {
          List<class C> listofC;
          innerClass C
          {
               String attribute1;
               String attribute2; // Their getter setters
          }
     }
}

So I have this as an API. Now my challenge is that I need to add one more property to inner class C.  i.e attribute3 in innerClass C. I need to do this without disturbing the code in class A by extending these classes or writing a new wrapper, so I can use class C with new properties .

I hope this should be achievable through any design pattern either at runtime or design time.

Can Use Java Code From OpenScript Or APIs In Separate Java Program?

Oct 24, 2014

I want to develop a Java program that uses OpenScript APIs to test my applications. The OpenScript framework automatically creates the Java Code so I was thinking of either using this code or create my own using the APIs.

I tried both options using NetBeans but I'm getting errors everywhere starting with the library import. I'm pretty new to Java so I'm sure I'm missing a lot of things here. I pasted the code below from the OpenScript framework that want to use in a stand-alone file for your reference.,

Java Application With Several Classes All In Same Java File

Apr 9, 2015

I've written a java application with several classes all in the same .java file. It works just fine. Now, I've broken it up so that each class has its own .java file. Still works fine. My next step is to put those classes into a package, but I'm not about to get the program to run.The .java source files are all in /home/user/src

I've set the CLASSPATH to /home/user/src..All of the source files have "package com.myfirm.program" on the first line.I compiled the application with:

javac -d . File1.java File2.java File3.java (etc...)

the compiler created the directory: /home/user/src/com/myfirm/program and put all of the .class files in there.So how do I get the program to run? if I run from /home/usr/src

java File1

I get: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: File1 (wrong name: com/myfirm/program/Program)
