JavaFX 2.0 :: How To Create Off Screen Images By Canvas In Multi-thread Environment
Feb 25, 2015
I want to create off-screen images by Canvases in multi-thread environment.
I know that I use methods of GraphicsContext2D to draw on Canvas. Can I do this on Canvas which is not added to Scene ?
How can I get an image from a canvas after I invoke GraphicsContext2D methods? Can I get images in multi-thread environment ?

I have a task of returning US holiday based on the given date and this utility will be used in a multi thread environment. I have written as below, how to know if my code breaks at any given point by multiple threads
Declared Enum
public enum Holiday {
CHRISTMASDAY("Christmas Day"),
GOODFRIDAY("Good Friday"),
INDEPENDENCEDAY("Independence Day"),
LABORDAY("Labor Day"),
NONE("None");
[code]...
I tried to test this with few concurrent threads, and noticed that the DB call is made for the very first time or when the year being requested is not same as the cached year. But I wanted to see, if this is properly synchronizing and would not fail in any case. My intention is to make a singleton HolidayCalendar, and also synchronized well enough so that every thread using this class gets the required data without blocking each other.

I would like to create list of entities which is populated by a search function with the data coming from our REST webservice. However I would like it to be multi-line, with the first line being details from the entity itself and the second line buttons for options that can be performed.
So as an example say my entity is People, the first line would contain columns for first name, last name, gender, DOB, etc. The second line would be buttons for "Edit Person", "Print Person details". With the standard TableView I can't see anyway to alternate between one row of data and another row of buttons.

I would like to avoid "Not on FX application thread" exceptions beforehand. Is there a reliable way to determine if Toolkit.checkFxUserThread is called by a specific method call? Such a check could then be included in the build process.

I have the following application scenario:
a) I have an observable list L
b) I have a thread periodically adding to L
c) I have a UI component monitoring changes in L and updating some view.
At present my thread adds to L by doing a platform.runLater. I find that a little clunky (not sure why, just seems it).
Are there any other recommended ways/petterns to keep my UI view in synch with the list, other than the above approach?

I'm beginner with javaFX and i need to change language of the screen. but how to reload the screen when the language was changed. The application have a button where have the language available. I want just refresh screen when the user change language. Here is the start method to show the stage.
@Override
public void start(Stage stage) throws Exception
{
this.stage = stage;
Locale locale = Locale.getDefault();
ResourceBundle rb = ResourceBundle.getBundle("resources/Label",locale);
[Code] .....
Here is the function to change the language(in the same class with start function),the rb is the new ResourceBundle:
public void refresh(ResourceBundle rb)
{
//change the language here
}
1. I don't want to use the resourceBundle to get value in resource file and set label in scene one by one.like following:
this.btnLabel.setText(rb.getString(key.test));
...
2. I don't want to reload the scene,like following:
public void refresh(ResourceBundle rb)
{
try
{
loader = new FXMLLoader(getClass().getResource("FXMLDocument.fxml"),rb);
root = (Parent)loader.load();
[Code] .....
So do we have a solution to just set the resourceBundle and reload the scene easier?

I've searched everywhere but found no way to disable loading of images by Java WebEngineHow to do it?
Research done:
I found some ideas, such as using URL.setURLStreamHandlerFactory() to use my own URLStreamHandler, and having that analyze the URL to only return URLConnections for URL's that don't end in .jpg .png etc.
But that has many problems: Sometimes the image url doesn't end in .jpg, if it's a dynamic image, such as a captcha. So how can I disable automatic image loading from WebEngine?

When I assign a classpath-relative URL to an ImageView's 'Image' property, SceneBuilder is unable to display the Image in the Preview. It shows the text "Image not found" instead as a placeholder, which makes sense. What I'd like to do is add a classpath entry to SceneBuilder such that it is able to locate and display the Images. Any way to accomplish this (or similar)?

So it seems to reason that many JavaFX applications will want to dynamically change CSS styles. Is the best way to do this via the <node>.getStyleClass().add("classname")? The underlying data structure is an observable list. So lets say one has 5 styles that simply change the fill color of a circle to 5 different colors respectively. So if I have a condition in which I want to dynamically apply 1 of these 5 styles, the way I currently do this is by defining all 5 styles as strings in a list using a static initializer, then I call <node>.getStyleClass().removeAll(list), then getStyleClass().add("classname"). I do this to avoid adding the same style over and over and inflating the underlying list. Is this the correct way to manage dynamic CSS styles?
So I know there is a few different way to implement a splash screen. My app has definitely gotten larger over the last few months of development and I have noticed there is about a 5 second delay between when I run the application to when I see the main stage. I was thinking a splash screen would be nice to fill this time period. I have not had time to prototype using a Preloader and I fear that using an alternate, lightweight stage on startup would still take too long of a delay. I was actually thinking that using the nice and simple JVM argument "-splash:<image name>" would be simple, easy and effective. Unfortunately when I try to do this, the splash screen comes up but never goes away.

I'm currently learning about Swing but I can't get my head round this piece of the code. Here is a simplified gui (not interested in the gui part but the execution)
public class SwingDemo implements ActionListener {
SwingDemo(){
JFrame jfrm = new JFrame("Simple gui pro");
//rest of code
public static void main(String[] args) {
new SwingDemo();
}
I get the above, create a new instance of SwingDemo in the main thread which starts up the gui through the constructor. However, then the tutorial says that I should avoid doing the above but do this instead:
public class SwingDemo implements ActionListener {
SwingDemo(){
JFrame jfrm = new JFrame("Simple gui pro");
//rest of code
public static void main(String[] args) {
SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { //why do this instead?
public void run(){
new SwingDemo();
}
});
}
}
Reading, it talks about an event-dispatching thread which has completely lost me... Why not just instantiate the object directly instead of creating another thread?

I have to build a simulated OS for my college class. I'm making it pretty simple, nothing too fancy and am using HTML5 Canvas. So far I have the icons on a black background and have made them draggable. I want to know how I can make it so when you click on an icon a box appears (just like a real OS) and then closes by clicking on the 'x'. I also want to be able to drag any icon into the trash bin and it disappears. I understand there are click/mouse events, but I don't know how to implement them into the code I have setup. Here's the code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
<head>
</head>
<body>
<div id="canvas"></div>
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/kineticjs/5.2.0/kinetic.js"></script>
<script defer="defer">
var stage = new Kinetic.Stage({
container: 'canvas',
width: 1910,
height: 995,

Java Code:
public class Game extends Canvas implements Runnable, KeyListener {
private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
public Game() {
setMinimumSize(new Dimension(width, height));
setMaximumSize(new Dimension(width, height));
setPreferredSize(new Dimension(width, height));
}
[code]...
I want to remove the extends Canvas from the top line and when I use JFrame to add canvas, I don't do add.(this, but instead I do add a canvas variable I make. So instead of extending I want to make a variable. But then how would I do the start, stop and run?I want to use Graphics, Canvas (Not Jpanel because I want to use BufferedImage) & JFrame. I don't want to extend Canvas, how could I use Canvas identically to shown above but instead of extending using it as a variable? or, how could I do this?

I'm currently having trouble with a Breakout clone that I'm working on when I want to change the scenes of the game. When I start out with the main menu and I hit play, the main menu calls for the StateManager to remove the MainMenu and then to add the GameState to start playing through the levels. But, whenever this is done it just gives a NullPointerException and freezes the game. I know the code for initially starting a State is fine because that is the same way the MainMenu is loaded but there seems to be an issue with changing from one to another...
This is the StateManager class that adds and removes the States/Canvases to and from the JFrame/Main class:
public class StateManager
{
private ArrayList<State> states;
private int currentState;
private JFrame gameFrame;
public StateManager(JFrame gameFrame)
{
this.gameFrame = gameFrame;
states = new ArrayList<State>();
[Code] ....
I've tried messing around with the order of which things are added/loading from the StateManager but am just failing to see what I did wrong.

This is the StateManager class that adds and removes the States/Canvases to and from the JFrame/Main class:
package com.pathtocreating.Breakout_V2.state;
import java.awt.BorderLayout;
import java.util.ArrayList;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
public class StateManager {
private ArrayList<State> states;
[Code] ....
The code that calls the change of state in MainMenuState is called in the update method:
if(inputController.isMouseClicked("LeftClick")) {
if(playHover) {
soundManager.playSound("ButtonClick");
BreakoutMain.sm.changeStates("GameState");
[Code] ....
Here is the full stack trace when clicking the area to change states:
Exception in thread "Thread-2" java.lang.NullPointerException
at sun.java2d.SunGraphics2D.validateColor(Unknown Source)
at sun.java2d.SunGraphics2D.<init>(Unknown Source)
at sun.awt.image.SunVolatileImage.createGraphics(Unknown Source)
[Code] ...
It gives that same value both before and after clicking on the region.
Printing out b after the State is changed to GameState gives the following:
java.awt.Component$BltSubRegionBufferStrategy@66116674
I've tried messing around with the order of which things are added/loading from the StateManager but am just failing to see what I did wrong.

I'm making a game of checkers for my A2 Computing coursework which is due in within a week. I have completely finished the game, and only thing I have left to do is connect the two JPanels together via a CardLayout that I have made. However I am unsure how to do so
Here is the code from my CardLayout:
import java.awt.BorderLayout;
import java.awt.CardLayout;
import java.awt.FlowLayout;
import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
import java.awt.event.ItemEvent;
import java.awt.event.ItemListener;
import javax.swing.JButton;
[Code] ....
I have kept the code I am displaying to a minimal, hence I have removed all the action listeners for my buttons, anyway the problem I have is that, I would like it so that when the user clicks on the 'Multiplayer' button which is the array button ourButtons[1], it will then transition into my main game screen so that the user can then play a game of checkers.
Here is the main important GUI from my CheckerBoard class:
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
public class CheckerBoard extends JPanel implements ActionListener, MouseListener {
// Main routine that opens an Applet that shows a CheckerBoard
public static void main(String[] args) {
new CLayout();
[Code] ....
Once again kept to a minimal.

1)A factorial of a number X is equal to X*(X-1)*(X-2)*...*1.For example,3! is equal 3*2*1=6.Create a class called Factorial Algorithm which will compute and print the factorial of an integer number on the screen
2)Write a Java program to accept eight integers and a search element from the user and display whether the element is found or not.(Hint:use bubble sorting and binary search)

i think the problem is to do with my images not being recognised. I put them in my source in User>...>workspace>src which is correct as far as i know. From what i know the images should show up if i look at my src file in eclipse but they dont. I tried changing the file type from .png to .jpg but it makes no difference.
