JavaFX 2.0 :: Subheader In Property Page Like In SceneBuilder

Jun 16, 2014

In the SceneBuilder properties panels (part of Inspector pane) there are nice subheaders - separated by horizontal lines with a decent gradient in the background. I've tried to investigate the SceneBuilder source code at [URL] …, but I haven't found the proper file where this subheader is defined and styled.

I'd like to use similar subheaders in my app and why to reinvent the wheel...

New Object JavaFX With Scenebuilder

May 28, 2014

When i press a button, i want to create a new object in my window(that i have created using scenbuilder, so i have a FXML file and a Controller class). In the window where i have a create button, there are also some textfields where you are supposed to enter name and date.

What i want to do is take the input from the TextField and store is temporally in a String variable, Its this strings i want to take the data from when i create a new object on my View. When i try to do something with the TextFields i get multiple errors that i dont understand at all.

I know my code may be very un-structured the absolute right way, i know, but i dont have time reconstructing and trying to understanding new patterns .The object is the circle and the vertical line.

TimelineMainView Controller
public class TimelineController{
StageClass sc = new StageClass();
NewTimelineController nt = new NewTimelineController();

JavaFX 2.0 :: Color-lookup Not Resolved In SceneBuilder

Jun 17, 2014

I use SceneBuilder2.0 with JavaFX8 on OSX 10.9.4

When i use a stylesheet in SceneBuilder2.0 which uses a color-lookup the lookup fails with:

WARNING: Could not resolve 'abc' while resolving lookups for '-fx-background-color' from rule '*.button' in stylesheet supersimple.css

The color-definition is in the root-rule, so it should be found.

The lookup does work fine at Runtime.

There is a more complete description of the problem on stackoverflow:

javafx - SceneBuilder2.0 does apply rules with color-lookup - Stack Overflow

JavaFX 2.0 :: How To Rearrange Components / Panes In SceneBuilder

Jun 26, 2014

I am wondering how one rearranges an existing complex UI using scene builder. I have tried, for example, to add a scrollpane around another pane that was already nested deep in my layout and did not find a way to do this. Is this not supported or am I just not getting how it's done? Typical practical examples of this would be that one introduces a split pane around an existing part of the layout and moves existing controls/panes including all their configuration (resource keys, bindings etc.) into one part of the split pane to add more functionality into another.

JavaFX 2.0 :: SceneBuilder - Preview Classpath-relative Images

May 7, 2014

When I assign a classpath-relative URL to an ImageView's 'Image' property, SceneBuilder is unable to display the Image in the Preview. It shows the text "Image not found" instead as a placeholder, which makes sense. What I'd like to do is add a classpath entry to SceneBuilder such that it is able to locate and display the Images. Any way to accomplish this (or similar)?

JavaFX 2.0 :: No Tooltip In Custom Control Allowed - Cannot Be Imported To SceneBuilder?

May 21, 2014

If I use an instance of Tooltip in my custom-control, it can not be imported to SceneBuilder any more. Using Tooltip in my custom-control skin works - is that the way it is supposed to be?

Background: I have a control (ValidatedTextField) which uses Tooltips to inform about unwanted characters. It works in SceneBuilder1.x.

SceneBuilder 2 does not "accept" this control unless I take out all Tooltips. I have verified this behavior with some other working controls.

I have found a workaround to use the Tooltip in the Skin.

JavaFX 2.0 :: How To Make Object Property Causes ListChangeListener

May 13, 2014

I have a Die class that extends Label. It has a SimpleIntegerProperty called faceValue. In another class I have an ObservableArrayList of Die called dice and a FilteredList of all the die in dice with a faceValue of 2. The Problem is that when I update the faceValue (ie. roll()) the filteredlist doesn't update with the Die that faceValue=2. I believe the reason is that the filteredlist updates when a ListChangeListener is fired. If i add, subtract elements from dice I don't have a problem but how do I make it so that updating the faceValue on the die counts as a ListChange, or is there even a way to do that.

JavaFX 2.0 :: ChangeListener Don't Notify Selected Item Property Changes

May 13, 2014

I made a simple test case using a ListView<String>.:

@FXML
    ListView<String> listView2;
@Override
    public void initialize(URL arg0, ResourceBundle arg1) {
listView2.getItems().clear();

[Code] ....

Using Java8 I see that I see this wrong behavior:

select 3 elements from the list: you'll see the log of the ChangeListener that tell you every time all items selected
remove 1 element from previous selection: you will not receive the notification!!!
remove the other two elements: only when the selection is empty you will see a new notification from changeListener...

JavaFX 2.0 :: Bidirectional Binding Text Field / Double Property - Validation Possible?

Oct 10, 2014

Is it possible to validate the input of a TextField that ist bound to a Property before both values are updated? Following is an example of my problem .....

In my model, there is a SimpleDoubleProperty discount. As you can see, there is some validation logic in the method setDiscount that might be used by other parts of the model.

public class Model {
  private DoubleProperty discount = new SimpleDoubleProperty();
public DoubleProperty DiscountProperty() {
  return discount;

[Code] ....

My Main class has a Textfield that is bound to the discount-property, a button to put the current value of the discount-property to console and a button to call the setDiscount-method ......

public class Main extends Application {
  @Override
  public void start(Stage primaryStage) {
  try {
  Model model = new Model();
  BorderPane root = new BorderPane();
  Scene scene = new Scene(root,100,100);

[Code] .....

By using the bidirectional Binding between the TextField and the discount-Property, the setter in the model is never called and therefore there is no validation of the input value. When calling the setter programatically with the second button, everything works as expected.

I experimented with neglecting the Binding and using ChangeListeners for both the TextField and the discount-Property but only produced infinte loops when both listeners triggered each other alternating.

JavaFX 2.0 :: Refresh Included Tab Page

May 17, 2014

I have an fxml page with a TabPane element with two tabs tabOne and tabTwo:

<BorderPane  fx:controller="lc.controllers.ControllerOne"  xmlns:fx="http://javafx.com/fxml">
    <center>
                <TabPane fx:id="tabPane">
                    <tabs>
                        <Tab fx:id="tabOne" closable="false">
                            <text >ONE</text>

[Code] ....

As you can see above tabTwo has a separate fxml included within.

Now some of the tab content in tabTwo needs to be refreshed based on the actions performed in tabOne. But however initialize method of included tab action class is called only once for the first time when the fxml page loads. How the initialize method of tabActions.fxml can be forced to execute every time the tab loads?

How To Custom A Characteristic (property) Of A Variable

Jun 24, 2014

I have 4 variables: longitude, latitude, accuracy and distance. I need to store these variables in two different servers, one for private data and the other for public data, in the cloud. Before sending those data to the server, filtering is takes place as private and public variables so that the private and public data will be send to the respective urls specified with.

public class LocationTracker{
private longitude;
private latitude;
private accuracy;
private distance;
// other tasks
}
public class Filter{

[Code]...

My intention is to assign those variables the characteristic/properties, public or private, thus, I can easily identify them anywhere in the code whether they are public or private and store them to the respective urls. If the private data attempt to be send to the public url, the rejection should be made. So, How do I do that?
