Method Declaration - Partial Interface Implementation
Sep 3, 2014
I have one interface with three(more than one) method declaration. In the subclass that implements it I want to define only one method not all three not even blank definition of them.Is there any keyword or method for that. How to do it? Is it possible to do it? In GUI we use adapter classes to achieve it. What for console application?

The 2 minute drill from page 69 SCJP kathy and bert book, says regarding Interfaces, that - "A legal nonabstract implementing class must not declare any new checked exceptions for an implementation method."
When I try the below given code in eclipse , it does not throw any errors . (Here I have tried to throw NullPointerException from testFunc whereas the interface function throws IllegalStateExc)
package abstracttesting;
public class StaticCheck implements check{
public void testFunc() throws NullPointerException{
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
} public static void main(String[] args) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
}
}
interface check{
void testFunc() throws IllegalStateException;
}

I have to implement all the stack methods in java such as push, pop empty, not using the ready methods but have to create them and to execute an exercise but is sth wrong with it
public class Stiva {

int Gjmax;
int array[] = new int[Gjmax];
int kreu;

Something about implementing Comparator interface isn't very clear to me: overriding the compare method.
Like here for example:
//This sorts a list of objects holding information based on age: the name and the age of the person
public class Person {
String name;
int age;
public Person (String name, int age)
{
this.name = name;
this.age = age;
[Code] ....
What exactly is happening behind the scenes? I don't understand mostly the part where it returns a 0, a 1, or a -1. After it returns one of those values, what really happens next?
For the displaying of the list, is the method toString() being accessed to output the list in the System.out.println statement?
For the generics, why do we use Person?

So we have an assignment regarding a linked list implementation of a given list interface.
In my list interface, the method contains(T anEntry) is defined.
In the LList implementation, contains is already implemented as part of getting the core methods in.
Now I am being tasked with the following:
Provide a second implementation of the method contains2(T anEntry) that calls a private recursive method
Private boolean contains (T anEntry, Node startNode) that returns whether the list that starts at startNode contains the entry anEntry.
I've written the private recursive method already. That's not an issue (at least not right now).
But what I don't understand is how startNode is supposed to be populated when this private contains method is called from the public contains2 method? contains2 only takes one parameter: anEntry. the private method takes two parameters: anEntry and startNode. How am i supposed to provide startNode when I am calling contains2?

Knowing that a hashmap does not sort the keys, I am thinking of using/converting to treemap which by nature does sort out the keys. I now need to find out if it is possible to search a treemap using partial keys such that for example I would like to search for all entries that have a key starting with "78BOX" whilst the available keys are:
75SQUARE3
76DIAMOND2
78BOX26
78BOX99
78BOX300
79TRIANGLE4
The above list is probably how treemap would sort out the keys however need to extract only those keys that start with "78BOX" - does treemap has this functionality ?

An abstract method is a method with no implementation. So would like to know what is the purpose of calling it if there is no implementation?

Basically I have a class called Book. Its supposed to have a few simple methods that set the title of the book, mark it as returned or borrowed. So specifically my problem lies in the implementation of the method that decides if the book isBorrowed. I was thinking i'd use a simple if/else statement but the way i've been trying hasn't been successful. This is what i've tried so far.
public class Book {
String title;
boolean borrowed;
boolean returned;
boolean isBorrowed;
// Creates a new Book
public Book(String bookTitle) {

if i call a class that implements an interface the method inside the interface will be triggered automatically by the compiler or happens only in the observer pattern? i keep simple to be surr the message came across, a typical example would be a listener on a button, or a collection that calls comparator)

if some of you worked with Unity Game engine (C#) the idea is that game has main loop and once per cycle it call for example Update() method in all objects which implement certain interface.
I would like to repeat such pattern in Java for another another program, not even game related, but I would still need a main loop and event driven behaviour with async call backsSo question is how to implement the fallowing scenario:
Imagine i have interface which implement some methods and one of them is Execute()
I have the main controller class which implement main loop, also multiple other classes which implement the same interface with method Execute(). How can i call this Execute() method on all objects which implement that interface each loop cycle?
Should i keep and track reference of each object which was implemented with this interface and go through inner "for" loop trough each reference and call manually Execute() method in each of them?what if each object implementing interface have to run Execute() method simultaneously? in parallel independent from each other?
Referring back to Unity engine and their Update() method - there is exactly the same situation:you can have multiple objects with script attached, thats script implement interface which has multiple methods and one of them is Update() and once per cycle all objects with that Update() method will be executed in parallel independently

So I created an interface which has the method
int getCalls();
I am trying to implement this method in another class but I'm not sure how to do so. My attempt is:
public getCalls(){ return getCalls(); }
When I run the program it sends the following exception:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError
at FibonacciForget.getCalls(FibonacciForget.java:14)
and it highlights the [return getCalls();] part.
What is the correct way to implement the getCalls() method?

Let's say we have situation like this:
abstract class A
class B extends A
class C extends B
class D extends C implements SomeInterface
I'm trying to implement a method "doSomething" declared in SomeInterface in class D. While trying to call doSomething in main I get the error message ”The method doSomething is undefined for the type B”
This is my code i main:
B container = new D("1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8");
System.out.println(container.doSomething());
I need container to be an object of type B, because it goes later into a list of type B. According to what I've been told, the only file I need to edit to make this work is class D.

I have been researching the Iterator and making a class implement iterable. I have seen this example shown below and was wondering how I could change this so that iterable() is not called upon in the main. I would like to be able to make a method that returns an instance of a class that implements the Iterator interface hopefully an inner class. This is because my program will not have a main and will be supplied with a main that includes a new Object with will use the iterator method.
import java.util.*;
public class IteratorDemo {
public static void main(String args[]) {
// Create an array list
ArrayList al = new ArrayList();
// add elements to the array list
al.add("C");
[Code] ....
This is all I have been able to understand from what I want to do. This does not work and this is what I am trying to achieve
public class MyArrayList implements Iterable {
public static final int DEFAULT_SIZE = 5;
public static final int EXPANSION = 5;
private int capacity;
private int size;
private Object[] items;
[Code] ...

Let's say within a class I create a method that takes care of creating a java swing layout with labels, buttons etc.. then attach an action listener (inner class) for each button to change a respective label text. All I would need is that the action listener method can access and modify the label as needed.
Have read about static, protected, private, getters and setters but honestly bit confused about which structure should be adopted as a best practice. Global static protected variables for the labels along with private inner classes implementing ActionListeners believe will do the trick and will be able to access the labels but not convinced this is good practice.

Ok say you have
public class MyClass {
private int x = 5;
Object myObject = new Object();
public MyClass(){
}
}
When would the myObject be created? Before or after the constructor? And does this mean you can't pass
this into the parameters of that object?

I'm new to Java and have been stuck on how to use a final declaration statement once it's made. Below is a class I'm creating with the intention of calling it under a main method. I don't understand if I'm supposed to do anything else, like do some sort of get/set, or if the final static line is all I need. And, I don't know how I call it to the main method once I do.
public class Shirt//class name.
{
int collarSize;//data field.
int sleeveLength;//data field.
public final static String MATERIAL = "cotton";//final data field for material.

<%@ taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core"%>
in order to use JSTL tags.
I am not able to understand what does this URI exists at all ?? I feel it making things complex and meaningless or else i am missing something hidden and secret.

Whilst pre-preparing for java certification, one of the online mock exams has slightly confused me by saying my answer was incorrect for multi-dimension array 'declaration and instantiation'.
This is one of the answers i chose - which was marked as incorrect
a)
int[][] array2d = {{123}, {4,5}};
Which looks absolutely fine to me.One of the other answers, which i agree is correct and so does the mock exam is
b)
int [][] array2d = new int[2][2];

when a new object is created in Java it follows the idiom:
Object obj = new Object();
where the Object() constructor matches the object type Object.
But what if it doesn't? I understand from the Oracle Docs on creating objects and polymorphism that the constructor must be in that object's class or one of its subclasses. However, suppose we wanted to declare a new stack. My first instinct would be:
Stack s1 = new Stack();
But I assume it's valid to do it this way, too:
Object s2 = new Stack(); // Is there a difference here? What are we really saying about s2? I'm guessing s2 is simply an empty stack, but only has access to the Object class methods? I'm not sure why someone would ever do this, but I want to solidify my understanding of the Java hierarchy. Are there really any circumstances where someone would use a subclass's constructor when creating a new object?

I have doubts in string declaration. As I know we can declare string in two ways:
1. String a=new String("Hello");
2. String b="Hello";
What is exact difference between them? Another thing is when I check (a==b) it retuns me false, but when I check a.equals(b) it returns me with true. Why So?
