Number Combinations - Restrict Outputs To Suits Of 3 Numbers
Jul 29, 2014
I want to be able to
(A) Restrict the number of output values per line to 3 numbers,
(B) Remove Duplicate lines, where the same numbers are duplicated just outputted in a different order.
(C) Count the number of outlines
(D) Add a fixed column to the outputs that has an ascending count from 1 upwards
I'm trying to achieve. The code is as follows:
package num.com.t1;
import java.util.*;
import java.util.concurrent.atomic.AtomicInteger;
/**
*
*
*/
public class NumComT1 {
public static void main(String... args) {

Write a program called RomanNumeralHelper that allows a user to enter a roman numeral and then outputs the integer number value. Use a Scanner to accept command line input from the user and continually ask for a roman numeral until the user enters Q (or q) to stop. Your solution should NOT use a switch statement.
Here is sample input / output:
Enter a roman numeral [Q | q to quit]: III
>> 3
Enter a roman numeral [Q | q to quit]: IV
>> 4
Enter a roman numeral [Q | q to quit]: V
>> 5
Enter a roman numeral [Q | q to quit]: Q
Good Bye!
This is what I have so far in my code, but I cant get what the user inputs when I want it to output the number.
import java.util.Scanner;
public class RomanNumber4
{
public static void main(String[] args) {
// obtain input from command window
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
[Code] ....

Goal is to: Write a program that prompts the user to input an integer and then outputs both the individual digits of the number and the sum of the digits.
First I don't know where I made mistakes here, and the only error it finds right now is that str2 was not initialized and I cannot figure out where/when to initialize it.
import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
public class DigitsAndSum {
public static void main (String[] args) {
String str1;
String str2;
int int1 = 0;
int int2 = 0;
[Code] ....

My professor is a man who enjoys making his students form large, but often simple symbols with smaller letters. That might not have clarified much, so let me demonstrate:
VVVVVVV
VVVVV
VVV
V
Or...
X X
X X
X
X X
X X
Or lastly...
O
O O
O O
O O
O
My problem is, that I've always been bad at figuring out the logic behind these.
I can kinda' see it (somewhat) in my head though... I'd need a double for-loop which depend on the sizes, one that monitors the spaces and one that monitors the symbols, with some conditionals in there. How to make symbols like this, using letters, in Java.

I am trying to iterate through all combinations of characters given a length n with the added notion that all characters are numerical (0-9).e.g I have been given n = 5. The I want to iterate through all combinations starting with "00000" and ending with "99999". My first instinct was to just have a for loop like the following:
for(int i= 0; i<99999; i++){
// extra code here
}
but obviously this does not a account for combinations such as "00010".

I have a TextArea that I am trying to restrict user inputs to allow only IP addresses format in that Area. So I thought of only allowing digits and decimal points. For multiple IPs, One IP per line, the TextArea needs to accept new lines. For the most part what I have below is working except for delete. I can't delete any entry even if I am using the associate Unicode. Is this even the correct way of doing it?
public class RestrictIpInputTextArea extends TextArea {
@Override
public void replaceText(int i, int il, String string){
if(string.matches("[0-9_u000A_u232B_u0008_u2421_._u007F_u005F]") || string.isEmpty()){
super.replaceText(il, il, string);

I'm making an armor class. I also made a test for it to ensure it works, but something seems to be wrong. I'm not getting the expect outputs when I ask it to give me a println of the variables.
This is the armor class:
import java.util.Random;
public class Armor
{
//fields
CharacterRace charRace;
String armorName;
public int cost;
public int armorBonus;
public int armorCheckPenalty;
public int arcaneSpellFailChance;
[Code] ....
And this is the CharacterRace class enum:
public enum CharacterRace
{
HUMAN, ELF, HALFELF, HALFORC, DWARVE, GNOME, HALFLING
}//end enum
And lastly, this is what the armor test prints out:
0
0
0
true
true
true
I never get false (I should sometimes) and those 0s should be
30
30
15
What's wrong with my code?

I'm having extreme troubles with my outputs not displaying the correct math. I have everything organized how I want it, it's just not giving me the correct answers.
The code is supposed prompt the user to enter an investment amount and an interest rate and display the future investment amount for years 1-30. The formula for this is:
futureInvestmentAmount = investmentAmount * (1 + monthlyInterestRate)^(numberOfYears*12)
Here is my code:
import java.util.Scanner;
public class InvestmentValue {
public static void main(String[] args) {
// prompt user to enter data
Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.println("The amount invested: ");
[Code] ....
And I have to use a method to do this as it is what we are learning in class right now. A sample output as of now is:
The amount invested:
1000
Annual interest rate:
9
Years Future Value
11.0E15
21.0E27
[Code] .....
And obviously a future investment amount cannot equal infinity.

The assignment is to make a program that prints the number of prime numbers in a range. This is what i have so far. The output is a list of 2s. I created the for loop to cycle through the range of 17-53 and nested a while loop within to test each incident of the for loop to check for divisors starting with 2 until the modulus result is 0 resulting in a false for being a prime number. Then the loop should increment to the next i value. The last part is an if statement that i had intended to add counters to the k variable that would keep track of the number of prime numbers.
boolean isPrime = true;
int j = 2;
int k = 1;
for (int i = 17; i <= 53; i++){
{
while (i % j == 0){
isPrime = false;

I am trying to make a program to multiplies two numbers without using the "*" operator. My idea was to add x number y amount of times, which is the same as multiplication. I did this with a for loop, but zero is always returned as the answer. How can I fix this?
public class secondMult {
public static void main(String[] args){
System.out.println(multWithSum(4,5));
}
public static int multWithSum(int x, int y){
int sum = 0;
for(int i = 0; i==y;i++){
sum = sum + x;

return sum;

I found an exercise online to create a small program . I have this code that I have done so far:
import java.util.Scanner;
public class Test {
public static void main(String args[]) {
Scanner sc = new Scanner(System.in);
long a = sc.nextLong(); long b = sc.nextLong();
long count = 0; // counter
for (long c = a; c <= b; c++) {
if (c % 2 == 0 || c % 3 == 0 || c % 5 == 0) {
count++;
}
}
System.out.println(count);
}
}
This program is suppose to give me the number of numbers which are dividable by either 2,3 or 5 in a range of a to b, where a<=b.
FOR EXAMPLE: a=5 b=8 ... output: 14 (since there are 14 numbers in between 5 and 8 which are dividable by either 2,3 or 5.)
It works great for all of the numbers except higher ones such as a=123456789012345678 b=876543210987654321. Here it doesn't give me any output. From what I know it is because the code is still running. But there must be a quicker way ...something that can modify the code so it finishes in the matter of seconds not hours. Something that will fasten the process of checking if the numbers are dividable...

public class Check2

private int red;
private int green;
private int blue;
public Check2(){
red = 0;
green = 0;
blue = 0;
[Code] .....
And when i uses it in another class named "Check" it returns zeroes :
public class Check
{
public static void main(String[] args) {
Check2 obj = new Check2(125,254,12); // the toString method should return the values i gave it here . but it shows me zeroes instead.
System.out.println("the colors are " + obj.toString());
}
}
Output : the colors are (0,0,0)

public static void main (String[] args) {

//for (int i=1; i<4; i++){
int usernumber;
[code]....
I'm supposed to use a for loop that runs until it reaches the number input by the user, but I'm not sure how to tell the program to add the user's number along with all of the even numbers in between the user input and 2.

Java program : For this assignment you are going to write code for the following class:
MathOnThreeNumbers
Here are the specifications of class MathOnThreeNumbers:
Methods of class MathOnThreeNumbers:
1. inputThreeNumbers
2. getAverage
3. getSum
4. getNumberOne
5. getNumberTwo
6. getNumberThree
Constructor of class MathOnThreeNumbers
write a constructor that initializes the first, second, and three numbers to 1, 2, and 3 respectively.
Specs for the methods methods:
1.
name: inputThreeNumbers
accessibilty: public
arguments: none
what it does: asks the user for three numbers of type double
2.
name: getAverage
accessibilty: public
arguments: none
what it does: returns average of the three numbers
3.
name: getSum
accessibilty: public
arguments: none
what it does: returns sum of the three numbers
4.
name: getNumberOne
accessibilty: public
arguments: none
what it does: returns the first number entered by the user
5.
name: getNumberTwo
accessibilty: public
arguments: none
what it does: returns the second number entered by the user
6.
name: getNumberThree
accessibilty: public
arguments: none
what it does: returns the third number entered by the user
Here is an example of how the class MathOnThreeNumbers works. The following code produces the output displayed after the code.
MathOnThreeNumbers mm = new MathOnThreeNumbers();
System.out.println("first: " + mm.getNumberOne());
System.out.println("second: " + mm.getNumberTwo());
System.out.println("third: " + mm.getNumberThree());
mm.inputThreeNumbers();
