Call Docx From Source Folder To Open In Microsoft Word?
Feb 10, 2015I created a src folder called doc within my jar, and have several word documents stored there. When a button is clicked I request a document from this src folder to be opened in Microsoft Word. Right now I am using the following code:

Servlets :: Offline Tasks In Java Web Application
Feb 11, 2014I am on developing a web application (using struts). So most of my web application use cases are reading and presenting data to the users.
But i need to write the another set of programs to keep on reading the data from another data bases and update my database. I have list of timings at which i should read the data from each of other sites (i.e. i know when the other databases gets updated information). Its almost every 20 mins..
Now i want to design the app.
1. Should i include the data read programs as part of my Web application ( means runs in same server JVM) and make the threads as daemon threads..?
2. Should i write another application (offline application) runs out of server in another JVM ?
Logging In To Outlook WebApp Using ApacheHttpClient

Now the thing is, after execution I am returned the login-page again instead of the inbox, which leads me to believe that login did not take place at all.Also the response to the post method in the browser has two cookies "cdata"; "sessionid" populated with values however I get them as empty. I believe that I am losing my session between the first get request and the subsequent post.
JSF :: Page Content In OUTLOOK Body Not Getting Breaks

Feb 14, 2014I am looking for a way to compile Java Source-Files at runtime and save them all in an executable jar; almost like an IDE would do. I know that there is the javax.tools package which provides a JavaCompiler interface and you can use ToolProvider.getSystemJavaCompiler() to get an instance of a compiler. However, this method has one important problem: it only works on machines that have the JDK installed. Not when only the JRE is installed.
I guess at this point that I need some kind of third party library that offers an implementation of a JavaCompiler. Unfortunately, this is really complicated to search for on the internet since all top listings when searching "compile java at runtime jre" do not really provide a solution to the problem.
I am writing a (somewhat) complex simulation software right now which is supposed to be used by people who have absolutely no knowledge of programming. At the same time, this software should provide the user with a certain amount of flexibility and control over the flow of the simulation.
My previous take on this problem was to build a complex system to interprete user settings from a GUI. I would basically read the GUI input, output it to some kind of own scripting syntax which I just quickly made up and have that interpreted at runtime. Then I realized, that is a silly concept and I threw it out before I got far into the developement.
The much better solution I came up with is taking the input from the GUI, create java source code from it and compile it at run-time. Seems much cleaner and nicer to me; will also probably have a better performance, but thats not really an issue anyways.
How To Organize Queries In Java Source Code
Oct 7, 2014Lately I've been working with JDBC and writing queries in some Java programs. I've noticed that I keep experimenting with where I place my blocks of querying code. I've tried creating a private method in the class where the query is used, I've created utility classes where I can call the query when needed, and sometimes I've just put it in a localized block of code where I need to. Also, most often these queries are one-shot queries where I need to pull the data to populate a JTable.
In short, this has made me realize that I don't have a solid practice for organizing my queries in Java. So my question is "Is there a practice for organizing query code?".
How Java Finds Jar Contents Imported In A Source File
Feb 10, 2015how java imports libraries from a jar file inside a source. Let's say I have the following code on Something.java file,

And for the compilation to be successful, I'll have to be just above bin-folder because...
- > Only then my default class path will be (.) and java would automatically include A.jar and B.jar(the other way is to add the jar files using -cp argument, which I want to avoid in this scenario)
- > And for the import org.mycompanyX to work I'll have to be in the (.) directory.

Nov 1, 2014I want to design an open-answer quiz game using Java. Basically, the plan is to design a quiz where the name of a medicine is displayed as "the question" and the player will need to input the unique code (as "the answer") of the medicine in an open box (all the codes are two characters). The list has about 204 named medicine (with potentially more to be included at a later stage). The questions will not appear in the same order for each session restarted; they will appear randomly.
The player will have 60 seconds, and for each correct answer, will score 1 point and add 2 seconds to the timer. The player will also have 6 "lives", and for each incorrect answer, the player will lose a life, with no effect on the time.
The idea of the game is that the player memorise as many of these medicine codes as possible.

Aug 3, 2014I have a jButton that when the action perform runs it only does part of the tasks some of the code doe not appear to run and i just can not figure out why i have tried wrapping parts of it in an if statement and it still do not run so here is the code behind the button:

what i am expecting to happen is the text field has the words Working Please Wait placed in it , this does not happen and the button should be hidden to prevent it being clicked a second time again this does not happen

Throttling Submission Of Tasks To A ThreadPoolExecutor
Jun 4, 2014I have a library that uses a ThreadPoolExecutor, backed by a bounded queue.
We submit a large number of tasks to this executor, constantly polling an external dependency for new work. However, this executor has a fixed size. When a ThreadPoolExecutor is busy, it queues up to the blocking queue's capacity tasks in its blocking queue, at which point it starts rejecting tasks.
What I'd rather do, instead of requesting more work, and then throwing it out, is to detect that we're totally busy and stop requesting work until a thread frees up.
Now, I know that one approach is to rewrite the workers such that they are infinite loops, who poll for work when they're finished. Due to the large number of consumers of this library, this is not an option.
I have come up with two other solutions.
1) This is one that I know will work, which is to use a semaphore or other concurrent counter to track how many tasks I have submitted, and stop requesting more work when that semaphore is out of permits. The processors release a permit when they complete (whether due to exception or success).
2) The other option, since I know this is a ThreadPoolExecutor, is way simpler, but also is something I'm not sure is reliable.
I can compare executor.getActiveThreads() + executor.getQueue.size() to the maximum number we can handle before rejecting (maxThreads + queueSize). This change is far simpler, but I'm not sure if those calls are a reliable way of counting the current work.
How To Perform Tasks Listed In Text File
Feb 12, 2015This has three different classes in a package and the program itself is supposed to read and perform operations obtained from a txt file. However, I'm not even sure how to get it to perform the operations from the text file. I know that it can read the file as I was able to get the program to print the text found in the file when I ran the program with a test print to make sure that all content was being read. However, I am clueless when it comes to how to get the program to look at the text as commands.
