Pass Arguments From Main To Paint Method
Feb 5, 2015
I want to take command line arguments and pass them to a paint method. This is a test program that will just draw some equations. How can I get the input array clinputs[] to be used in public void paint( Graphics g) ?
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
public class LinePlot extends JFrame {
public LinePlot() {
super( "Line Plot" );
setSize(800,600);

I wish to use args passed to main(String[]) during application execution to a Swing component.
In a simple example, assume args passed are: a b c d
And here is the result I look for:
package argsinswing;
import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
public class ArgsInSwing {
public static void main(String[] args) {
String str1 = args[0];

I am looking to write a constructor (in a herited class) to initialize the name of a single piece and its orientation using values passed as parameters. If no value is given for guidance , it returns "none" , I do it in this way but i am not sure it is the right way:
public SimplePiece(String piece,String d){
super(piece);
if(d == null){
guidance = "none";
}else{
guidance = d;
}
}
What do you sugger me to do to get the right code .

I have a test that covers Objects & Classes, Importing Classes and Polymorphism. One of the essay questions will be: Explain two ways to pass arguments to methods and give examples. I was reading the book and found Pass by Value and Pass by Reference. Is this the two ways to pass arguments?

I am currently drawing graphics onto a JPanel, by overriding the standard paintComponent method.
Is it possible to call a method to draw some predefined shapes, instead of filling this method with all the stuff I need drawn, and if so, how do I do that?

Is it possible to paint to the screen without using methods such as paint(), paintBorder(), paintChildren, paintBorder, paintComponent, paintAll() and any other paint like methods I may have missed. These are, by the way, taken both from JComponent and Component. So, is it possible?

I am doing a homework assignment and I am clueless as to what I did wrong or supposed to do in terms of placement of coding. If someone could dumb down their response and tell me what I did wrong
This is what I supposed to do:
1.) Type the following shell for the class:
public class ParadiseInfo
{
}
2.) Between curly braces of the class, indent a few spaces and create the shell for the main() method:
public static void main(String[] args)
{
}
3.) Between the braces of the main()Method, insert a call to the displayInfo() method:
displayInfo();
4.) Place the displayInfo() method outside of the main() method, just before the closing curly brace for the ParadiseInfo class:
public static void displayInfo()
{
system.out.println ("Paradise Day Spa wants to pamper you.");
system.out.println ("We will make you look good.");
}
This is what I attempted to do: I know it is wrong I am just clueless on where to put the code and why
public class ParadiseInfo
{
displayInfo();
public static void main(String[] args)
{
public static void displayInfo();
}
system.out.println("Paradise Day Spa wants to pamper you.");
system.out.println("We will make you look good.");
}
--- Update ---
I have also tried this:
public class ParadiseInfo
{
displayInfo();
public static void main(String[] args)
{
}
public static void displayInfo();
{
[Code]...
The very last attempt I only ended up with one error which is:
G:ParadiseInfo.java:3: error: invalid method declaration; return type required
displayInfo();
^
1 error
Tool completed with exit code 1
Java is very new to me and I have no clue on what I am doing wrong.

I am having a bit of difficulty understanding/Using FileWriter. Now by my understanding in the API FileWriter allows to use write at the end of your file, if you have text in there already, correct?
I have a file with people info in it. And I created a GUI which allows people to input that data.
Java Code:
File file = new File("People.txt");
FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(file);
People p = new People(firstName, lastName, email, sex));
fw.append(p);
fw.close() mh_sh_highlight_all('java');
Now, I keep getting an error on the fw.append(p)
Java Code:
The method append(CharSequence) in the type Writer is not applicable for the arguments(People) mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

I have to write a method called censor that gets an array of strings from the user as an argument and then returns an array of strings that contains all of the original strings in the same order except those with length of 4. For example if cat, dog, moose, lazy, with was entered, then it would return the exact same thing except for the words with and lazy.
Currently, my code so far just prints [Ljava.lang.String;@38cfdf and im stuck.
import java.util.Scanner;
public class censorProgram {
public static void main (String args[]){
Scanner input = new Scanner (System.in);
System.out.println ("How many words would you like to enter?");
int lineOfText = input.nextInt();
[Code] ....
I have to make new string array in the method and return words without four letters in the main method

trainerArr[1] = new trainer("Wilson Ting", "Male", "Kuala Lumpur", 10001, "Kick-boxing");
[Code] .....
How can i pass these arrays into another method in the main class?

I have a question about an error I am getting when trying to pass a two dimensional array to a method. I keep getting the "incompatible types, int cannot be converted to int[][]". I am getting the error in a few different place (see comments - at the first call of the method, at a recursive call, and at the return statement. I believe I am passing the same type of array in all cases to the type of array defined in the method parameters.
Below is my code.
// this is a call from the main method
int[][] c = new int[temp1.length][temp1.length];
c = MatrixMultiply(a,b); // this is first place the error occurs
} // end main
public static int MatrixMultiply(int[][] A, int[][] B) {
// throw new UnsupportedOperationException("Not supported yet.");
int a[][] = A;

I need to pass user input from the main method, which is then validated using another method that is returned as a valid score, and then I pass the valid input to another method that stores the data in an array. The array is initialized within the method. I tried to use an if-else statement to initialize the array, because I originally did this at the beginning of the method. I soon learned that I was creating a new array everything I accessed the method. Needless to say, this isn't working either.
public static void main(String[] args) {
int judges = 7;
float[] validScores = new float[judges];
for (int i = 0; i < judges; i++) {
float score = -1;

Essentially, the code I want is:
public void randomCreate(ParentObject obj){
int x = random(0-4); //pseudo
int y = random(0-4); //pseudo
create new ParentObj(x,y);
}
ParentObject is actually abstract, so you would only ever pass one of its children objects to it, and a child object of that type would be created. It seems like there should be a way to pass a type, rather than an object, and then create an instance later down, but I don't know if that is actually possible, or if it is poor programming style.

Here's a class called Fibonacci
Java Code:
public class Fibonacci {
public static int fib(int n) {
if (n < 2) {return n;}
else {return fib(n-1)+fib(n-2);}
[code]....
it contains one method called fib() and one main method.If I would want to have the main method in another class than fib(), how would I write the two classes? Only cutting the main method from this class to another one doesn't work.My question is, is the reason it doesn't work because I then would have to have a constructor in the Fibonacci class, and create a Fibonacci object first which I then use the method on?

The idea is to create a program to add plants and retrieve plants from a Nursery. I created a class with the properties of the plants and also there is the class an Array list to keep track of the plants entered ( they will have to be printed later) (I am not too sure if adding a public class there is the best option.
The program will allow the user to pick and action and from there the code will do something. I don't want to have all the code inside 'main' The problem is in line 114.This is what I have so far.
Java Code:
package plant.nursery;
import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.Scanner;
/**Class to create a plant for a nursery.
public class PlantNursery
