JOptionPane / Entering Valid ID Number

Oct 5, 2014

I am working on allowing a user to enter an ID # using JOptionPane. If the ID is valid, then it will display the ID#, student name, and GPA. If it is not valid, then the window should pop up again to allow the user to enter a valid ID. I have managed to get that far.

I am struggling with once a valid ID # is entered, how do I get the loop to stop? I have tried several different ways, but the code below is the most recent one, and it is still not working!

import javax.swing.*;
public class StudentIDArray
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
String enteredID;
int idNumber;
int x = 0;

User Input Data As String And If Verified As Valid Number Then Convert Into Double

Nov 11, 2014

I am writing a code in which a user inputs data as a string and that data must be verified as a valid number. A valid number is anything from 0-100. Then all valid numbers are converted into double numbers.

I am having trouble in how to write the validation part of the code.

Is it suppose to be an if, else statement? And if so how is it suppose to be validated?

User Enter 5 Digit Number And In Return List Each Number On Their Respective Lines

Sep 16, 2014

So I am currently writing my first assignment and have run into problems with my coding. The task was to have someone enter a 5 digit number and in return, I list each number on their respective lines. We also must create an error if a number other than 5 digits was entered. My problem is that when they enter a 1 or 2,3,4,6,7,8 digit number.. the error message occurs along with the rest of the messages (listing the numbers, etc). I want the program to end (or even re-ask to enter the numbers) if they incorrectly enter the data.

Return Biggest Prime Factor Of Given Number

Sep 10, 2014

One of our assignments this week was to make a program that when given a number it will return the biggest prime factor of that number. So for example if the program is given the number 15, the output is 3.

144 gives you 3 also.
17 gives you 17
21 gives you 7.

Anyways, after some time trying out various things and combining stuff i googled with my textbook I somehow stumbled upon a code that works. But I cannot for the life of me understand how it works. I think it has something to do with the inner loop and the outer loop. But I feel like i cant go on without understanding how it works.

Here is the code:

public class BiggestFactor {
public static void main( String[] args ) {
int N;
N = StdIn.readInt();
int n = N;

Apr 29, 2014

Write a Java code of the method startsWithCount that takes an array of strings words and a String S. The method should return an integer that is the number of strings that starts with S.

For example if:words = { "All", "Arab", "size", "Almond", "Allowed", "here"} and S= "All", then the method should return 2

PHP Code:

public class StringwithCount {
public static void main (String[]args) {

Method Must Return Int Type - If Given Integer Is Strong Return A / If Not Return B

Sep 7, 2014

I want to use a method, which takes for example an int and also returns an integer. For example, if the the given integer is strong return a, if it is notstrong return b. How would you write that in a Code?

I want to use that in a more general way. I want to give a method mlong the value X of the type date and let it return an int. Type date consists of 3 int, one of them is the int month.

mlong should return an int depending on the X.moth. at the moment my code looks like this:

// File1:
public class date {
public int day;
public int month;
public int year;
}

// File 2:
public class monthlength {
public int mlong(date X) {
int t;
t = X.month;
if (t == 1 || t == 3 || t == 5 || t == 7 || t == 8 || t == 10 || t == 12)
{ return 31; }
if(t == 4 || t == 6 || t == 9 || t == 11)
{return 30;}
}

Use Relative Path In Place Of Absolute Path

Nov 7, 2014

I am copying the xml files from one folder to other folder, in the source folder, i have some files which have some content like "backing File="$IDP_ ROOT/metadata/iPAU-SP-metadata.xml" but while writing to the destination folder.i am replacing the "$IDP_ROOT" with my current working directory. The entire copying of files is for deploying into tomcat server. The copying is done only when server starts for the first time.Problem: If i change the folder name from my root path in my machine after i run the server,the entire process will be stopped because the destination folder files already contains the content which is with existed files names or folder names.

So i want to change it to relative path instead absolute path. What is the best way to do it? Please look at code below:

[ // Getting the current working directory
String currentdir = new File(".").getAbsoluteFile().getParent() + File.separator;

if(currentdir.indexOf("ControlPanel")!=-1){
rootPath=currentdir.substring(0, currentdir.indexOf("ControlPanel"));
}else{
rootPath=currentdir;

How To Return Values In Object Return Type Function (method)

Apr 2, 2014

How do i take input values for TwoDPoint (which are objects) and return it back in numerical values also print them.

When i create an object in main method and pass values to my function of return type TwoDPoint,it gives error:- found int,int need TwoDPoiint,TwoDPoint.

// Here is what i tried to do:

Created class TwoDPoint that contains two fields x, y which are of type int. Defined another class TestTwoDPoint, where a main method is defined.In the main method created two TwoDPoint objects.

Then I modified the class TestTwoDPoint and add another function to it. This function takes two TwoDPoints as input and returns the TwoDPoint that is farthest from the point (0,0).

Then I added another function to TestTwoDPoint. This function takes two TwoDPoints as input and returns a new TwoDPoint whose x value is the sum of x values of the input TwoDPoint's and whose y value is the sum of the y values of the input TwoDPoint's.

class TwoDPoint {
int x = 2;
int y = 4;
}
class TestTwoDPoint {
public static void main(String args[]) {
TwoDPoint obj1 = new TwoDPoint();
System.out.println(obj1.x);
System.out.println(obj1.y);

Valid Operands And Operators

I am required to make a console calculator that takes the values as strings and turns them into doubles. The user needs to be able to enter something like 3+4+5*9/13 on one line and the application give the answer. As of this point I am currently on at the last section as making the user be able to enter the expression and present the answer. I have added an array list containing + - / * and the same with the numbers 1-9...I now need to actually get the information to all come together. I'm not sure how to do that. I *think* I have all the parts for it to work.

public static void main(String[] args) {
String input = ""; // initalize the string
boolean isOn = true; // used for the while loop...when false, the
// program will exit.
final String exitCommand = "Exit"; // exit command

Performing Regular Expression - Valid Last Name

Feb 4, 2015

I have some problems about performing regular expression. In the following code, the output as a result is being "valid last name". But in my opinion, it should be "invalid last name". Because "Doe" has not any space, apostroph or any hypen. Look at the regular expression statement: "[a-zA-Z]+([ '-][a-zA-Z]+)*"

package deneme;
public class Deneme {
public static void main(String[] args) {
String lastName = "Mc-Something"; // Mc-Something
if(!lastName.matches("[a-zA-Z]+([ '-][a-zA-Z]+)*"))
System.out.println("Invalid last name");
else
System.out.println("Valid last name");
}
}

I know that the asterisk qualifier means character(s) in any number.(Is this wrong?) So for "Mc-Something", 'M' corresponds to [a-zA-Z], 'c' corresponds to +, - corresponds to [ '-], 'S' corresponds to [a-zA-Z], "o" corresponds to +, and finally "mething" corresponds to *, doesn't they? But for "Doe", there is no any space, apostroph or hypen.
