Printing Sentences From A List?

I'm trying to print sentences from a list which read in sentences from a text file. I'm able to get the program to print out the sentences in a numbered format corresponding to each sentence, but the first sentence in the list is always repeated, same as the next sentence. How can I print out the contents of a list in a numbered format (1. _ 2. _ 3._) without repeating sentences?

Right, so I got this method that creates and sorts 2 lists. What I want to do is merge these lists into a third list, have it sorted, and then print the contents of the list. The problem is, I'm tired and I don't remember how I can print it.

I'm trying to print the contents of my linked list. I'm using nodes and within those nodes it hold String data. So i want to print out the data within the nodes. Whenever i do
System.out.println(node1.data),
it prints perfectly. But i'm trying to use a method where it would loop through the list and print out the data for every node in it. when i run my print method i get results such as
Node@15db9742
Node@6d06d69c
Node@7852e922.

i need to reverse sentences in a paragraph.the sentences end with a period and the paragraph ends with a newline.
i tried to construct Vector<String> and Vector<Vector> reading input from scanner, but that didn't work because scanner skips newlines.
what should i do?

I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to print random numbers from a an array list. I tried google but nothing worked. I have to pick certain values from two lists and print them on the screen. I have included comments in the code to facilitate the explanation.

The only problem I have now is getting a method to return the median element of a LinkedList without using loops of any kind or by using a global counter anywhere.
I've pretty easily figured out how to get the index value for the median number (there is some lee way allowed. If the list has an even size, any of the middle values are accepted) but I can't figure out how to print it without loops.
I'm sure I need to make a method that finds an element at the given index value, but I don't know how to do it without loops.
Here's all of my code. Inside is my Assignment3 class I use for testing, StudentList which contains the LinkedList head and other List methods, and StudentNode which is obviously, the Node class. Also I've attached the first test1.txt file as well.

I have some class called sorted to sort the linked list through the nodes of the list. and other class to test this ability, i made object of the sort class called "list1" and insert the values to the linked list.
If i make other object called "list2" and want to merge those two lists by using method merge in sort class. And wrote code of
list1.merge(list2);
How can the merge method in sort class know the values of list1 that called it as this object is created in other class.

I have a list of 100,000 + names and I need to append to that list another 100,000 names. Each name must be unique. Currently I iterate through the entire list to be sure the name does not exist. As you can imagine this is very slow. I am new to Java and I am maintaining a 15+ year old product. Is there a better way to check for an existing name?

I receive a java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: ""DepDelayMinutes"" error when trying to filter a list and then assign the results to a new list.
I have edited the code so it is an int that throws the exception so it isn't the presence of a string that is causing the error - java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: ""0914"" .
I believe the issue is because of the two sets of double quotes but I do not understand how they came about. The original dataset does not have any quotes whatsoever.

So we have an assignment regarding a linked list implementation of a given list interface.
In my list interface, the method contains(T anEntry) is defined.
In the LList implementation, contains is already implemented as part of getting the core methods in.
Now I am being tasked with the following:
Provide a second implementation of the method contains2(T anEntry) that calls a private recursive method
Private boolean contains (T anEntry, Node startNode) that returns whether the list that starts at startNode contains the entry anEntry.
I've written the private recursive method already. That's not an issue (at least not right now).
But what I don't understand is how startNode is supposed to be populated when this private contains method is called from the public contains2 method? contains2 only takes one parameter: anEntry. the private method takes two parameters: anEntry and startNode. How am i supposed to provide startNode when I am calling contains2?

I saved the content of an ArrayList<SomeClass> to a file
I write each serialised object to the file by adding to each an id that is created with list.indexOf(object) (and saved before each object)
So I can repopulated the list with SomeClass objects in the same order as they were and once I reload the file, I do list.add(id,object)...
Well my list is populated upside down, I mean the first object is the last and the other way around, If i remove the id when I do the add(object)...

I am creating a program called "Mad Math Machine". This program is to generate random arithmetic questions, with integers ranging from -12 to 12, for the user to answer. The user has three lives. Once they get more than three questions wrong, they run out of lives, and their "score" (the number of questions they answered correctly) is taken.
I have the large chunk of the program (the arithmetic questions and answers) completed. The only part I am stuck on is the scoring system. I believe that arrays would be useful for this task, but I have little idea of where to start. Here is what the scoring list should be able to do:
- It should print out the top ten recent players and their scores.
- A separate list should show the top-two highest scores of all time.
*I didn't think it was relevant, but I can include the program code. Up until this point, I have created methods to keep track of the score, but I have simply left them commented out so I could build the rest of the program.*

I'm making a program where the user enters an ID number and can submit the amount of sales that person made for a specific product and write to a file. One of the things I have to do is making a running sum of the sales for each product for all people combined as well as an accumulation of the a persons sales every time he enters data. Everything seems to be working execpt my values like person1Total, person2Total...etx and product2Total.
When I try to write them to the file, they always come out at 0.0 even though they should be the sum of the indexes of the array sales.

I am trying to print out a list of usernames for my chat program. It currently works except for the username portion. The Server sends a specific line that tells the client to print it as a username. That line is name//name. For example, if the name of the client was Eric, then the server would send Eric//Eric to the client. The client will then receive the line through a buffered reader. However, my current code keeps getting an error at the i=input.substring... line. Its an IndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -1.

So for fun I've decided to write a program that can keep track of a simple card game my friends and I designed. I've built a class for an array, that stores the basic stats of each card. I need to be able to access this array from another class, that will print the array information to a file, so we can easily keep track of who's cards have leveled up and their stats. The main class will also be using a random number generator to determine how much damage the attacker/defender deals and takes respectively. So far I have the random number generator built as well. I'm just having issues creating a print to file class and what I need to change in my array class to make it accessible by the other class that prints it to a file.

I have a hashmap of the form HashMap <String, Set<String>>I am trying to create a method with one argument. The argument is a key for the hashmap, if it exists it should print out the key and the associated values. I'm falling over at even getting it to print the key, it keeps printing all the keys from within the hashmap as I don't know how to load the argument into it. I have this so far

I've been working on the below code for a couple days in my spare time. Just a simple little text-based RPG. I'm brand new at programming and Java, so excuse the bad syntax. There's probably easier ways to go about what I'm trying to accomplish, but all we've learned so far in class is while loops and if statements. Anyways, the problem is that the statement "Really? Lets say in method 1 I want to print the numbers 1 - 10. Easy stuff. I then print that to the
PrintStream outFile = new PrintStream(new File ("output5_01")); I declared.
Now I'm in another methods, How do I print lets say 11- 20 without erasing the first methods printed results?
so my desired results would be
outFile
-------------------------------
(From 1st method) 1- 10
(From 2nd method) 11-20
As of now the second method always over writes the first. None of my books cover this and its very frustrating when the entire code is done but this won't let me write to the file

Im trying to make a question game, much like a spin off from Trivial Pursuit. In this code, I call classes to get a random number. This number determines what category the question will be from. Coinciding with this number, the "if" statements go and pull the questions and answers from an alternate class. My problem is that when I try and output what should be the question and the 3 answers, its outputs "null" for each String?
This is my first class, which is just the class for the player.
