Printing A Functioning JTextField On Graphics2D
Sep 10, 2014
I recently started making some Java games, and now I'm having some troubles,
It seems like I can't place a functioning JTextField on my Graphics2D object, I can place images, even the image of the component itself:
Java Code: Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) this.getGraphics();
JTextField jtf = new JTextField();
jtf.setSize(150, 70);
jtf.setLocation(220, 220);
jtf.print(g2d); mh_sh_highlight_all('java');
How can I make it work? I really need it for character name creation, chat, etc... so making a JDialog isn't an option for me.

I am writing a program to solve Sudoku puzzles. I create the user interface using AWT/Swing.One panel of the main window (JFrame object) contains a Graphics2D component only (a grid for the sudoku puzzle). The problem is that this panel is too small for its contents when it is created. I have tried many things to make it bigger (like the setSize method of the panel), but to no avail. Who can tell me how I can make the panel with a single Graphics2D object larger?
Below is the code for the main window, which is a JFrame object. I set its size to 400 x 400 to have ample room for all panels. I then create two panels: a sudoku panel that contains the sudoku grid and a button panel that contains two buttons. The button panel has a flow layout.
I then create the main panel. This has a vertical BoxLayout. Finally I add the sudoku panel and the button panel to the main panel and the main panel to the frame.
public class ViewController_Graphics extends JFrame {
JButton solveButton = new JButton("Solve");
JButton nakedSinglesButton = new JButton("Naked Singles");
public ViewController_Graphics(SudokuModel model) {
super("Sudoku");
setSize(400,400);
setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
setLookAndFeel();
// create sudoku panel
[code]....
When I run the program, the following Window shows up:the button panel is exactly in the middle (and it remains in the middle, no matter how I resize the window). And there is not enough room for the sudoku panel. How can I make enough room for the sudoku panel when the window is created?

So, I don't know how to start off this program. I'm not looking for the final answer, but I don't know two things: 1. the objective, 2. what type of thing do I start it off with? A method? I'm pretty sure it's not a class right because it already has a class?
public class WebFarm
{
private ArrayList<Server> servers;
/* constructors and other methods and instance variables not shown */
}
public class Server
[Code] ....
the Instructions:
The ping() method of the Server class returns true if the server is currently functioning normally; otherwise it returns false. Write a definition for the needsAttention() method of WebFarm that returns an ArrayList containing the servers that are not functioning normally:
public ArrayList<Server> needsAttention()
{
//I can put code here
}

When an exception occurs that will affect the entire functioning of a program, in other words, the program will not be able to do what it is intended to do, is it best just print the exception to user and run System.exit(1)? And then force the user to run the program again.

I am working on a program that should take an input file as a command line argument and check if that file contains a valid sudoku solution. Right now the main error I am getting is my scanner isn't functioning properly and is throwing inputMismatchexceptions, but Im also not sure about the validity of my functions, and i cannot test them because my scanner isn't working.
import java.util.Scanner;
//This class will read in a possible sudoku solution and test it for validity. If it is invalid, return at least one reason why.
public class SudokuVerifier {
//this function checks a row to see if it contains the numbers 1-9
public static boolean checkRow(int sudoku[][], int i) {
boolean contains=false; // keeps track if the line contains a certain number
for(int k=1; k<=9; k++) { //goes through every number from 1 to 9
for(int j=1; j<sudoku[i].length; j++) { //checks every element in the row to see if it is equal to k

I am having a problem rotating a shape I am using the transformation rotation matrix and don't seem to be getting the results I expected. Now I know a lot of programmers will just tell me to use the Graphics2D rotate(theta) Method.But I would like to create this ability through writing the code.

I am struggling to make a double border which has rounded corners. The border should be 2 parallel lines.
I made something which looks almost good, but if you look closer there are a few wrong things.To achieve this, I made 2 paths, then painted them in 2 different colours.
The main problem is painting with AA, because the colours overlap and are affected.
I think it would be smoother to paint a single path using 2 colours.
For the first problem, I think some kind of a stroke would be enough. But, if I build a stroke, it's almost same thing like drawing the path twice, like I did before. Anyway i think that would fix AA problem. But still, maybe I can achieve a smoother effect for the corners.
Question:Maybe something with a 2x1 Texture ? It's possible to achieve this ? I know I tried this before and when a curve was encountered the direction of the texture was wrong and looked messy.
PS: Ignore the blueish thing, it's a dragged component to activate the highlight border.

I have a supermarket checkout line where i have a list of available products on the left and then a basket on the right with the products in. The products are listed in an array, here is the product class
public class Product {
private String name;
private double weight;
private double price;
[Code] ....
with getters and setters excluded, and the list these are put into
public class productList extends DefaultListModel {
public productList (){
super();
}
public void addProduct (String name, double weight, double price, int code){
super.addElement(new Product(name, weight, price, code));
i have the price for each product to be displayed in a text field with the following code
addBasketItem = new JButton();
getContentPane().add(addBasketItem);
addBasketItem.setText("Add >");
[Code] ....
defaultCheckoutList contains my available items and defaultMainList is the basket, with mainTillPrice being the jtextfield.
This works to get the price however it just replaces each time i make a new entry with the price for the next item, i want a total of the price of all the items i have added, but not sure how.

Will I'm tying in my code to set a default number for the JTextField that when the user decide not to put any numbers. Like let say that I want the textfield set to 0 , so then the user do not file it it won't make any problem to the program because its already has a default number.
if (stringGQ != null && stringGW != null && stringGP != null){
stringGQ = gMQ.getText();
stringGW = gMW.getText();
stringGP = gMP.getText();
weightPrice_1M = Double.parseDouble(stringGW) * Double.parseDouble(stringGP);
[Code] .....
Note: This is a small part of my code. when I leave it empty it take the 0 as a value, However, when I write in text field it also take the value of a 0 and the finalTotal is also = to 0.what I'm doing wrong.

designing a program which allows you to buy stuff from the jframe with 10x items each with different pricing, so once you click the image button the cost of that is displayed in the textfield, ive been trying to set the jtextfield to a decimal point but have not been able to so far,
if (source == jBSofa) {
System.out.println("Sofa");
{
dTotal = dTotal + 599.99;
jTotal.setText(Double.toString(dTotal));
DecimalFormat myFormatter = new DecimalFormat("#####.#");
String output = myFormatter.format(dTotal);
a visual aspect of it.

How would I display certain output text if the text entered equaled "text".
So lets say you enter a question into a JTextField. You press a button that submits the text. The output displayed depends on what the question you asked was.
Think about it as "If question = What color is the sky? On submit, display text "Blue". How to implement this.

I have been reading several suggested solutions for implementing autocomplete for a JTextField. However, the documentation is a bit confusing to me. It seems like they mostly require switching to a JComboBox. Can I or can I not continue to use a JTextField and implement an autocomplete feature? I also saw what I thought was a built-in autocomplete "decorator" for swing objects (although it was not clear if it can be used for JTextField) but most of the implementations seem to start from scratch. Any simplest way to implement this (assuming those 2 conditions are not mutually exclusive)?

I want the actionPerformed to update the row of the JTable but I can't figure out how. There is another class that controls the GUI but did not think it was necessary to include. I have a GUI with a JTextField. I need to check that the input entered by the user is made up of only integers.
For example I accept: 1, 10, 530, ...
I do not accept: -10, 1.5, -6 ...
I would like to implement this control by using a regular expression so I would have a code like that.
JTextField text = new JTextField();
String input = text.getText();
boolean bool = checkInteger(input);
if(bool)
System.out.println("Ok");
else
System.out.println("Error");
The checkInteger(String input) method should check if the input string is correct or not.
How can I do to implement this control with regular expressions?
Is there an easier way to do it?

I'm working with a project there ill need to enter some values for an Object and for this i'm using JTextField. However some of the variables are of the types double, int and bool. Is there a different method of reading thees types?
for example:
double playTime = this.playTime.getText();
This won't work because playTime is of type double and .getText(); takes a String.
How will i handle this? Id rather not convert from String to Double if its possible.

I'm having a hard time finding out the way to make JTextField editable. In what circumstances it can be disabled to write? [even the text in the field can't be selected, not to mention being uneditable. I did the followings to make it editable.
1. In its Properties panel(frame or whatever), checked the "editable" item.
2. In the code I made it run the code below :
void makeFieldsEditable(Boolean flag) {
Left_Name_field.setEditable(flag);
Left_Name_field.setEnabled(flag);
...
}
Is it related with the properties of the control(JTextField)'s surrounding panel, or even the largest containing frame? Using Netbeans ....
