How can I extract data from two different files but produce one output. For example, the first three columns are from text_file_1 and the last column (the last foruth column of the output) is from text_file_2...
I am trying to sum up the elements of an array. When I test my code the sum is always off by one. For example if I input: 20, 40,30 it gives me 89 instead of 90.
This is what I have so far:
public static void main(String[args]){ int size = kbd.nextInt(); int [] myArray = new int [size] //user inputs the elements of array for(int i =0; i<myArray.length; i++){ myArray[i]= kbd.nextInt(); } int total = sumNum(myArray,0, myArray.length-1) System.out.println("The sum is"+ total); }
**Here is my question. I'm trying to use input and loop method to search for a file. The above code works but my problem is lets say I try to find 2 different text files**
1. billing-20140527[09].txt has
a)XGMS,2014-05-27 10:08:04,122,PLAYER_VERIFY,VERIFY to LBA,0x580000,0xC0000,253040. b)XGMS,2034-05-27 30:08:04,122,PLAYER_VERIFY,VERIFY to LBA,0x580000,0xC0000,253040.
2. billing-20140527[10].txt has
a)XCGS,2014-05-27 10:08:04,122,PLAYER_VERIFY,VERIFY to LBA,0x580000,0xC0000,253040. b)HELO
I try to find the number 1 in both text files, if lets say I input the text file name is billing, I can find the number 1 in both text file and output them:
a) XGMS,2014-05-27 10:08:04,122,PLAYER_VERIFY,VERIFY to LBA,0x580000,0xC0000,253040. B)/> XCGS,2014-05-27 10:08:04,122,PLAYER_VERIFY,VERIFY to LBA,0x580000,0xC0000,253040.
However, if I specify the text file name: billing-20140527[09].txt and find the number 1 inside the text file, it will only output:
a) XGMS,2014-05-27 10:08:04,122,PLAYER_VERIFY,VERIFY to LBA,0x580000,0xC0000,253040.
How can I do so? Because I can output the number 1 from both text files even though I specify the name.
In the program below I'm trying to read the contents of several .txt files in the same diretory and create a new .txt file containing all of the data from each file. My output is generated in the console however my .text file is blank.
public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException { String target_dir = "C:Files"; String output = "C:Filesoutput.txt"; File dir = new File(target_dir); File[] files = dir.listFiles();
I have written a program (DOM Parser) that parses data from a XMl File. I would like to create an individual file with the corresponding name for each set of data parsed from the xml document. If the parsed output is Single, Double, Triple, I would like to create an individual xml file (Single.xml, Double.xml, Triple.xml)with those corresponding names. How do I create the xml files and give each file the name of my parsed data output?

So I am trying to write the output of two different java class files to one txt file while the program runs. The file name is determined before the program is ran, through the command prompt as arguments. How can I get the second class file to edit the same txt file without running into compile errors.
For right now I'm just going to send everything that the second file outputs to a message String variable, so that the Main class outputs to the the text file. I still want to learn how to write to the same text file directly from the second class file.
import java.io.*; public class Test{ public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException{ int x; //create a new file internally called doc. But externally labelled the user input File doc = new File(args[0]); if (doc.exists()){
Code isn't giving me the output that I want and keeps giving me NaN
What I want -
Enter the A value for the line: 2.45 Enter the B value for the line: 4 Enter the C value for the line: -8 Enter the x coordinate of the point: 2.17 Enter the y coordinate of the point: -4
Distance from the point to the line is: 3.9831092774319026
What I am getting
Distance from the point to the line is: NaN
Here is my code-
Tester-
import java.io.*; import java.util.*; class tester { public static double A; public static double B; public static double C; public static double distance; public static void main(String args[])
Am new to programming and am trying to create a system that is similar to a train timetable system.I want the user to be able to enter the stops between two stations ( from a preset list of 5 stations ) and this be saved as an array list, and this array list be saved accordingly within a 2D array so if they were to look in [1][2] there would be an arraylist of stops between station 1 and 2.I used this to initialise the array of arraylists (in a class i created called stops)
public void stops(){ for (int i = 0; i<5; i++){ for (int j=0; j<5; j++){ stopsArray[i][j]= new ArrayList<String>(); } } }
Then I use this code to set the stops
public void setNoStops(int stopsNo){ noOfStops = stopsNo; }
[code]...
The bottom written line of code is mentioned in the null pointer error I recieve. Then.Then in my main programme I declare the new object and use these methods the method options displays the list of five stations with a number reference
System.out.println("Please choose a start station :"); options(); place1 = scanner.nextInt(); System.out.println();
System.out.println("Please choose an end station :"); options(); place2 = scanner.nextInt(); System.out.println();
[code]...
mystops is the object I created to store the information.
when compiling I recieve no errors.when I run the program it runs smoothly, asks for the number of stops, allows the user to enter a number, then says enter stop 1, I enter a word and the program crashes giving the error java.lang.NullPointerException
I'm a complete beginner in Java programming and I'm interested to learn more about its concepts.
Recently, I've been given an exercise which instructs me to display two versions of a picture. The picture to be displayed is provided in the form of a data file of 40,000 digits that are arranged in rows (although there is no marker between rows) and it starts from the top of the picture. So the first digit represents the top left corner of the picture and the last is the bottom right.
Basically, what the exercise wants me to construct a program that plots a dot in one of two colours for each digit. If the digit is in the range 0 to 3 the output should be one colour and for digits in the range 4 to 9 the dot should be in the other colour.
I understand I have to use arrays and also loops to perform this. I'm familiar with the fillEllipse, drawEllipse, drawRectangle and fillRectangle but this exercise is nothing I've attempted before.
When out is equal to the String "2x2.5", the array operations ends up looking like this when it is printed using the toString method:
[, , , x]
As you can see, before the array element x, there are three String variables which only contain whitespace. Why does this occur, and how can I prevent this from happening?
In a program I created, I'm using a text file that contains some texts needed for the program. The method relevant to this is something like the following.
private String wordgen(){ try { BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("src/Resources/adjectives.txt")); Random rand = new Random(); int low = rand.nextInt(400); String fil=""; int i=0; while(i!=low){
[Code]...
The program runs fine in netbeans project but once the jar is created it does not corporate with the text file. ("null" is returned) How can I attach text files to jar and exe?
I need to transformation the txt files into xml files, but each row txt files don't have same elements, for example the first book is composite one author
my output fails to display me the 2nd output.Here's my code.
import java.util.Scanner; public class year { public static void main (String [] args) { Scanner console = new Scanner (System.in); System.out.print("Enter the choice of book(A-ABC,D-EFG):"); String x = console.next(); System.out.print("Enter the rate (1-3):"); int y= console.nextInt(); System.out.print("Enter number of kids reading:"); int k = console.nextInt();
[code]....
When I key '0" for kids, it did not appear the second print out. I don't want the first print out to be the output.
I restricted to .exe(Ex:usersfile.exe) file uploading in java by checking with extension.Now i renamed .exe to .png or txt or etc..(Ex:usersfile.exe to usersfile.png). Now it is uploading but my requirement is after renamed also .exe restricted to uploading. It is possible or not in java and javascript?
I'm reading from one file and writing it into another.I then want to delete the first file and use the second (it will get the first files name) .My sample java file works completely fine but it doesn't work on my actual file -it looks like it populates my test file like it should but it does not delete the original. Occasionally DMap.xml won't delete either - I try and rename it and normally I get the error of 'the file is open in Java platform SE binary' so the files is open somewhere - but I thought I had closed it correctly so have I done that wrong? I have put the basic code :
public class DeleteEnvironmentsWindow extends JDialog { String xmlFile = "c:DMap.xml"; String fromFile =xmlFile public void removeEnvironment(){ DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); DocumentBuilder builder = null; Document doc = null;
know my code sample file of renaming a file and deleting an original file will work fine but when I use the code within my main java file - it appears to populate the file that I want populating fine but wont delete the origional. I have everything on my c drive so I can very easily keep track of what files I do and don't have.
Can using the same files in different methods cause problems? (Beginning Java forum at JavaRanch)
import java.util.Scanner; class LeftBottomTriangleNew2 { public static void main(String[] args)
[Code]....
the staircase looks good,however I want to remove the last line and if user chooses 9 i want them to get message "enter number from 1 to 8" and do not print out the staircase.
I have been working through a problem, and I have working what I need to work. However, it prints out to the command line and I want to output to a GUI. I have set up the GUI and everything seems fine there, the problem is when I try to change the output that was coming through the command prompt to a JTextField. I am getting the following error.
The field DataAnalyzerGUI.dataOutput is not visible
I am writing this program for my Java level 1 class. I am able to get it to compile and run, however nothing is outputted. Below are the instructions and the code that I have written.
Instructions:
Write an application that calculates and displays the amount of money a user would have if his or her money could be invested at 5 percent interest for one year. Create a method that prompts the user for the starting value of the investment and returns it to the calling program. Call a separate method to do the calculation, and return the result to be displayed.
Below is the code that I have written
import java.util.Scanner; public class Interest { //main method public static void main(String[] args) { originalAmount(); Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
