I am trying to write a program that read from a csv file called matches.csv.
A single football match can end with a win or a draw: in first case the winner team get 3 points and the loser none, in the second case of draw each of the two teams get 1 point.
For example, the first line of the file matches.txt is as follow:
This means that a match has been played on the 17/08/2013 where Arsenal scored 1 goal while Aston Villa 3 goals: thus Arsenal got 0 points while Aston Villa 3 points.
How can I structure my output to make it make it read

I have seen different methods of creating and reading files (specifically text files) in Java. The PrintWriter method or the Formatter with a Scanner to read the file, using a BufferedWriter with a BufferedReader, etc. They will all read/write text files, but from what I understand they do so in different ways. When would it be more beneficial to use a buffered writer than, say, PrintWriter, which is much simpler code-wise? Is there a "best" way to handle i/o in general in Java?
I am quite new to Java. I have downloaded a tictac example Java applet code and I run it on Eclipse with no problems. But when I try to test it outside Eclipse by doing the following:
I copy the .class file and two gif-images to another location and call the Java from html code:
If I draw (drawLine) the X and O instead of using gif, then it works.... so its really the gif-loading which is the problem.
I have a Windows XP. I also tried to run it inside XAMPP server folder in my machine but the same problem. How could I be able to run it on my machine?
Lately I've been working with JDBC and writing queries in some Java programs. I've noticed that I keep experimenting with where I place my blocks of querying code. I've tried creating a private method in the class where the query is used, I've created utility classes where I can call the query when needed, and sometimes I've just put it in a localized block of code where I need to. Also, most often these queries are one-shot queries where I need to pull the data to populate a JTable.
In short, this has made me realize that I don't have a solid practice for organizing my queries in Java. So my question is "Is there a practice for organizing query code?".
I want to create an application wich can handle xml files ( display xml files's data on a html page) + insert those data into an oracle database.
I'm new to that, it a project for my internship. wich API is the most appropriate for that ( Jdom or Xstream or other), wich framework i can use ( there is only 3 IHM : connexion, upload file, display data, confirmation insertion data)?
I am looking to do it on data carving which is a technique used in digital forensics to extract known file information from unstructered raw data.
So, Lets say I make a bit for bit image of a usb drive that has some deleted images on it, jpeg maybe.
I can still recover this file by locating its header and footer information as its raw data is still on the drive after it has been deleted.
I would like to build a java application to automate this task. My problem is I dont know how to read any of the known digital forensics image (bit for bit copy of the driv) formats such as aff, e01 or raw dd.
Is it possible for me to read bytes from a raw data file in java, maybe search that file for the bytes I need and pull them out of there, perhaps to an array or something ??
I was thinking, if I could get all the raw data into a binary file in java it might be easier to work from there. What I really need is to get access to those bytes. If I could even write them all out to a text file, Id have something to work with.

i am fairly new to java but have made a few projects so i do know most aspects that would allow me to complete the task its just i have been stuck at the same place now for 2 days.The project is to create a java program that can read specific data within a csv file to work out the averages etc. The csv file is a database of different weather stats . an example of the first 12 months of the csv file is below..
I know that once the data is indexed i can than use a double to find the average of the 12 specific pieces of data and so on. once this is complete i should than be able to transfer the data to a simple graph.

I got a question in my last interview, its all about multithreading, interviewer asked me to write a program, to write the contents of three files(F1,F2,F3) in to a new File F4, using multithreading , first thread should read the first file and second thread should read second file, so the File F4 should contain F1's contents in first then F2's contents after that etc. I tried to give my best shot, but i couldn't get a way to ensure that the first thread is reading the first file and write to F4 then second thread reading the second file and writing once first file is written completely into F4 and so on ..how to do this?
I have a program that is a XML-parser, and it works fine when I'm running it from NetBeans. But when I create a JAR-file and run the very same program, it cannot find the xml file. Consider this small program that addresses my problem:

how can I extract data from two different files but produce one output. For example, the first three columns are from text_file_1 and the last column (the last foruth column of the output) is from text_file_2.
If I wanted to take strings in from the user through a GUI say day, month, year. I am looking for a way to organize those incoming strings. I am going to add this information to a queue. However, I want the people who put in the earliest day, month, and year to be put into the queue first followed by the next earliest so on and so forth.I was thinking what I would need to make a method that would compare the information.
